  1. I would say he is kind of like Quinn. He can hurt you, if you get undisciplined. He prefers to move to throw the ball. His last option is to run to scramble. Doesn’t mean that Washington might not run a couple QB draws, like Texas did last year in the bowl
  2. I did a quick count, so dont crucify me if I am off a bit, but I counted 31 pass plays and 9 runs (1 of which was a Penix run, so that was likely a scramble) in the 1st half of last year's game (77.5% passing plays).. I think you can expect something similar on Saturday. Washington will run, when presented with light boxes or when they feel they have tired out the DL. They are not going to attack a fresh DL, especially of the quality Texas has, unless presented with light box.
  3. That brings me to a question. Who do you think starts for Texas at CB? Homes and Muhammad are rated the 2 best cover CBs on the team by PFF. Muhammad is #1.. Brooks is actually last, but I expect him to start. I do wonder if Texas uses Muhammad more at the boundary, than Watts. You give up some run stopping ability and screen game, but you are better down the field. (I would flip that thought vs Michigan, where I want my most physical CB on the field more)
  4. It was in response to you and the idea that Texas needs to continually bring blitzes to slow the Washington offense down. I am sahying DaBoer and Penix are too good for something that simplistic. Penix threw for 5.3 yards/att vs Texas last year. That was the lowest in his 2 years at Texas. Texas managed to bottle up the Washington passing game last year, despite not registering a single sack.
  5. you are missing the point. Mixing coverages means bring heat and playing some man behind and playing some coverage looks. You dont want to just sit back and bring 5 and play press every down. Penix and Washington will go into mad bomber mode and hammer the secondary. Blitz, press man, 2 deep safety looks, 1 deep safety. That said if you completely blow up their OL, go ahead and blitz every play. Just keep in mind that Washington has been very good in pass protection all year, so it is highly unlikely that Texas will overwhelm Washington with their pass rush. The best possible outcome is the interior pass rush dominates and there isnt a need to bring a lot of blitzes. (Murphy #1 interior pass rusher in Big 12, Sweat #2, and Collins #3)
  6. I dont think we see that. I think PK is going to mix it up. Penix is in year 6 of this offense. I think you need to mix up looks and coverages. He will throw some interceptions. Bring some heat and drop safeties deep. Penix only interception last year was vs an amoeba front. Just think about Ewers, when he knows where to throw the ball he is deadly. Penix is the same way. One thing I do not hear very much is how well the Texas pass defense was last year vs Washington. That may not happen again. but it is a date point the national media has completely ignored.
  7. The difference is pretty obvious. It’s one thing to play the game behind closed doors. It’s another to put out BS statements in the public domain. There are ways to handle things. Some people handle them like professionals, some handle them like a child
  8. This sentence is a perfect encapsulation of Evans. Talented, but flawed..
  9. Not saying he will end up the same, but Warren Sapp came to mind watching that film. An athletic ball bowl of a prospect. The natural power is obvious
  10. The biggest difference between last year’s defense and this year’s is situational defense. Texas was 94th in opponent 3rd down conversions last year, they are 2nd in the nation this year. They are 12th in red zone TD percentage. Last years defense was solid, but struggled to get off the field (lots of long drives). This year’s defense gets off the field
  11. It’s Worthy. Mitchell is very good at WR things. Routes and catching the ball. Worthy is a TD waiting to happen. He struggles making contested catches (he is like 160 pounds), but give him any space and he can make it a TD. I would guess Washington will play to stop explosive plays. Force Sark to be patient, which he can struggle with. Your DC said something about that last year. It’s one reason I think the Texas run game could be the difference in the game. If they can run consistently, that will put your defense in a bind.
  12. More confident. I think Washington has a better downfield passing game and that is my biggest fear in this game.
  13. 10.52 100 for a Safety is flying. I am not sure I am ready to go from Thompson/Taafee era to the Williams/Filsaime era. That is going to be a shock to my eyes
  14. I keep seeing the Alamo bowl being referenced. You guys do realize this is the playoffs and not a shit tier bowl game, right? Nobody will be sitting out getting ready for the NFL combine in this game. Of course several players from both teams played in that game last year, but neither team will be exactly the same for this one. Its not like the starting LB and second leading tackler on the team is going to decide his has better shit to do, than to play Washington like last year
  15. That is how this generally works. IF you take the best run of the day out and it is still over 4 yards a carry, that is pretty fucking good. That is consistent success running the ball.
  16. Lets be honest about the Oregon game.. Oregon averaged 6.72 yards/play in the rematch (6.44 in the first game). They ran the ball 20 times for 124 yards. That was 6.2 yards. Big difference was Oregon running the ball 40 times for 204 in the first game. Big difference between the games was Oregon going 3-10 on 3rd down in the rematch, opposed to 10-16 in the 1st game. Washington defense was not very good in either game, but they made timely plays in the Championship game.
  17. Texas is the better team. They have multiple ways to win this game. Love Texas in a 5 game series, but this is 1 game and Washington's #1 strength is Texas's weakness. I am pretty confident in Sweat and Murphy to at least limit the Washington run game. 90% of the talk about this game has been Washington offense vs the Texas defense. I think this game is probably decided by the Texas OL vs the Washington front 7. If Texas gets the run game going (consistency, not 1-2 big plays), I dont see a way Washington wins.
  18. might want to send that to PK, instead of Sark.. Nice design to get a 1 on 1 match-up with a safety.
  19. Awhile ago Gerry made some comments on McKinley. He said he is like Collins in more than one way. I took that to mean the work ethic/love of the game. NFL talent, questionable motor. Foster is Bledsoe. Very athletic. Super raw. Low floor/ High ceiling kid..
  20. Washington is undefeated. I have not seen this fragile Washington team. You are correct in physicality. Texas wins easily, if they dominate the LOS. That means stopping the run with honest to light boxes, getting pressure with 4, and hitting 150+ rushing the football.
