  1. probably shouldnt hire a position coach that is older than Bobby Burton. We need some standard. Would love to have him as an analyst.
  2. I meant interesting in the sense the Brown was considered this rising star, he got DC interviews, and then suddenly he was let go. Apparently, a lot of communication issues between the 2nd and 3rd levels. Db and LB coach were both fired. 3. Been some discussion that is why Orphey was hired. Sark wants to run more man coverage and press man. Texas was in the bottom quartile in man coverage. Rutgers has been in the top 20 in man/press man coverage the last few years. That tracks as Nansen seems to have been brought in to get away from 2 deep coverages. Texas was predominantly single high coverage for the first season under PK at Texas this past year.
  4. That seems more Sark's m.o. Young guy with ties to Southern recruiting ground or Cali. Grady Brown is interesting. He was considered an up and coming NFL guy and then the Steelers decided to part ways. They had a lot of blown coverages late in the season.
  5. 30 rising star Power Five assistant coaches you need to know - On3 Just some names. Carrington on the list. I could see Sark looking at Chris Collins (UK). Wilson just took a job at his alma mater (Florida), so cross him off
  6. There are a few things that can change the Run game. 1. Mobile Qb 2. Pocket presence. Not to get into a Quinn debate, but I think Manning can be better in the pocket. Keep Texas out of those 2nd and 15 situations, that are drive killers. 3. The Deep ball. Manning showed himself to be much more of gun slinger. That is a bit of double-edged sword, but I think safeties will be less aggressive firing downhill with Manning taking snaps. 3. Maybe Texas gets a better blocking out of a TE 4. With Conner and Majors out, there is possibility we finally see "Big Humans" we have been promised. More downhill OL, instead of OZ centric.
  7. It is a bit different by position. Rb is one of the few that you usually see those flashes, if they are going to be great. That does not mean a freshman that looked like a freshman cannot improve. It just means the ceiling might not be 1st team All-conference/All-American type player or the odds of that happening are long. They can still be a serviceable player. Baxter's health being a legitimate concern and a room that looks more solid than dynamic at this point, I can definitely see why people would argue for the need for a portal RB. Perhaps one of the freshmen will show those flashes with the football in their hands in practice and quell some worries. The one concern from last year is blocking from that group. It was generally poor last year. Baxter was kind of unicorn in that area as freshman. Not sure you can count on a freshman blocking in year 1, even if Baxter proved it is possible.
  8. Interesting PK does not officially have a position anymore. I wonder if he will stick with the Edges or float between position groups.
  9. They are on different developmental tracks. You could argue Ojo has the higher ceiling, but he is behind Turntine as a player right now. Turntine is more Banks and Ojo is Cam Williams/Goosby. Personally, I dont think you can ever take too many LT prospects. Its like CBs. A miss at LT can be a solid player at another OL spot. Just think of Banks. He was a great LT for Texas, some think he doesnt have the length to be a hihg end LT in the NFL. How good would the OL have been, if there were 3 guys like Banks on the 2024 OL. Worst of the 3 would have been the best Guard on the OL.
  10. More interested in Orphey. The more you look the better he the hire looks. He was given 2 contract extensions at Rutgers and a significant bump from 400k to 500k in his last extension at Rutgers. You only do that if he is garnering interest. Mark Orphey is rumored to be on the move from Rutgers football - that was Ole Miss He has 2 drafted players in his 3 years at Rutgers with a chance to add to that in this year's draft Notable 2024 players Eric Rogers, CB After three years at Northern Illinois, Rogers transferred to Piscataway to play for Orphey. In the most recent 2024 campaign, Rogers had 34 tackles with 1.0 sack. He forced two fumbles, recorded one interception, and had three pass breakups. Rogers was Rutgers’ highest graded defender according to Pro Football Focus. His 81.5 grade led the team, as did his coverage grade of 80.3. Opponents threw at Rogers 36 times, completing 21 of their passes for 215 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Robert Longerbeam, CB A four-plus year contributor who arrived at Rutgers as an athlete, Longerbeam appeared in 53 games with 31 starts at cornerback. He earned an invite to the 2025 NFL Combine. During the 2024 season, Longerbeam posted 45 tackles with 1.5 for loss. He had two interceptions and 11 pass breakups. He’s a two-time All-Big 10 honorable mention selection. He earned a 71.4 defensive grade per Pro Football Focus with a 73.7 coverage grade. When thrown at, opponents were 31-for-55 for 360 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Drafted pupils from Rutgers 2023 – Christian Braswell – Jacksonville Jaguars – Round 6 Braswell posted a defensive grade of 86.3 in 2022 with a strong coverage grade of 87.1. Opponents were 24-for-41 throwing against him, tallying 218 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. [Join Inside Texas TODAY and get 7 days for just ONE DOLLAR!] 2024 – Max Melton – Arizona Cardinals – Round 2 Melton played in all 17 games for the Cardinals this year with 51 tackles, a forced fumble, and five passes defended. At Rutgers in 2023, he posted a defensive grade of 73.5 and a coverage grade of 74.1. Opponents were 24 for 44 against Melton, notching 252 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions.
  11. It is true we have not seen Choice hit it at Texas with one of his RB recruits, though it is still early to make that judgement, but the biggest value Choice brought to Texas was opening up the doors in Georgia and Florida. Texas got 4 kids out of Georgia last year, that isnt a coincidence. He was welcomed at any school in Georgia and Florida. That is why I will be hoping for a long shot like Juluke to be the next RB coach at Texas.
  12. We will see. Sometimes they put Moore at off-ball LB with Hill. They have a lot of flexibility. Best guess is Simmons (Edge), Terry (DT, replacing Broughton), Vasek/Burke (DT, replacing Sorrell), Moore (Edge). Terry having the lowest odds to make it.
  13. mentions they are monitoring Joseph's contract situation at the end of the month. Doesnt sound like Texas is moving on, but worth noting.
  14. OnTexas mentioned that Terry Joseph contract ends at the end of the month. Hazelton coached the Nickel position this season before taking the Wake DC job. Think Orphey stays at CB, but this might not be the last coaching hire in the secondary. This may not be the last hire in the secondary, Texas had 3 coaches last year.
  15. We have Arch there is no need for kickers anymore.
  16. Barron is easily one of the best DBs in this draft. His times are going to be huge to his draft stock. I think there is some belief that he may not have the top end speed to stay outside. I can see someone like the Steelers/Ravens drafting him. Just a smart organization (defensively) that recognizes the versatility that he offers. He is going to find a spot on team. I see him as a guy that might be a 8-10 year pro and over the course of his career he may play every position in the secondary.
  17. I should have said Archie. The original Arch Manning, who I have heard from older people who saw him was a great QB stuck in a shit organization.
  18. Winning Super Bowls are important, but it is not everything. To win Super Bowls you need to have a solid team around you. I think people tend to overlook that aspect. If Steve Young stays with Tampa Bay there is a good chance, he was his generation's Arch Manning. The Brady vs Mahommes debate is over blown at this point. What makes Brady stand out is the 20 years of high-level play. Mahommes is on pace through 8 years to rival or surpass Brady, I dont think that should be considered controversial. The odds are against him doing it for another 10-12 years. Chiefs will likely get a new coach and perhaps a new front office in the next few years. To dethrone Brady a QB is not only going to have to maintain a high level of play but also get lucky to be in organization that has consistency.
  19. Eagles DL dominated the Chiefs OL. They were able to get pressure without blitzing, that is much worse on a QB. The best game plan a DC can have is the ability to constant pressure with 4. LeBron v MJ is an interesting sidebar. Not relevant to football, but appreciate the attempt. You have the obvious 5 starters vs 22. The even more obvious concept that in basketball you play offense and defense. Single player can make I much greater impact in basketball, than in football.
  20. Why would I take Brady over Mahomes.. Average Super Bowl score for Brady is 24.6 -21.. Average Super Bowl score for Mahommes is 25-29.6 Last 2 Super Bowls Brady won his defense gave up a combined 12 pts. Brady played in 4 Super Bowls where his defense gave up 17 or less pts. Mahommes has not played in a Super Bowl, where his defense gave up less that 20 pts. His defense has given up 30 or more in 3 of the 5 Super Bowls he has played in, compare that to just once for Brady.. I taking Mahommes, because I believe he is the better Qb to this point of his career. We will see if he can maintain this level, like Brady did. The idea that Brady is better because he has more Super Bowls, completely disregards the other 21 starters. Winning Super Bowls is about more than simply Qb play.
  21. I wont argue that. I see 2 QBs that are both the best of their generation. I believe Mahomes is the more talented QB, I dont think many would argue that. Only thing you get it in response is typical group think of Super Bowl wins, which is about a lot more than simple QB play. Its the most brain dead line of thinking by sports fans. It the type of thinking that would leave Dan Marino out of the HOF and add guys like Dilfer and Brad Johnson.
  22. He looked pretty bad vs the Giants. That is with Randy Moss and Welker at WR. Scoring 14 just isnt great. You cannot just compare games in a vacuum and think that gives you concrete evidence. You have to actually look at the game plan. How did WRs play, OL, did they have a run game, etc. Like I said I would take prime Mahommes over Brady. I take Mahommes over Brady, because physically Mahommes wins every comparison. It is not particularly close. I think both are accurate. Brady has a slight advantage in reading a defense.
  23. I read this wrong, but this is just showing that Brady and Mahomes are very good when their OLs play well. Not so much, when they dont. Interesting Brady got his first ring with a poor outing vs the Rams, it kind of highlights the flaws of ranking QBs by Super Bowls.
  24. Brady: 335 games, 64.3% comp, 266.3 yards/game, 7.4 yards/att, 1.94 TD/game, 0.63 int/game Mahomes: 112 games, 66.6% comp, 288.86 yards/game, 7.76 yards/att, 2.19 TD/game, 0.66 int/game.. 2,243 rushing yards We will see about longevity, but if you ask me to pick between prime Mahomes, Montana, and Brady I am taking Mahomes.
  25. He plays the Jack. That requires more ability to anchor vs the run and set the edge. It may take him a bit to gain the lower body strength to hold up vs College tackles. The biggest hurdle for him is the Edge position appears to be one of the deepest on the roster. Burke and Vasek look like a solid 1-2 at the Jack. Vasek has shown some ability to get pressure albeit in limited snaps. Zina is there, hard to know where he is at this point. Simmons and Moore are at the Buck. Simmons had a nice path to the field last year. Start him out in pass rushing situations in the Nascar package. (Simmon, Broughton, Sorrell, and Burke/Moore). He slowly moved to playing standard downs. Simmons had that elite pass rushing skill. He set the Duncanville record for sacks with 22.5 in a season. Jackson had 9 sacks. Lance will need to be a better all around player to get heavy snaps. It is possible, just a much harder road. I think that is a good development. It is great not to need a true freshman to have to contribute. I think one of the true freshman DTs may surprise. I could definitely see Justus Terry coming in for pass rushing situations (13 sacks) early in the year and growing into a larger role. I think it is more about opportunity, than talent.
