  1. That doesn’t make any sense. Bama is projected to play Georgia. That is a coin flip at best
  2. I am more focused on getting Quinn out of this game healthy. It only takes 1 hit. I would just like to see the OL take a step and control this game, that would be best for all
  3. Need to get the run game going. Not looking for Quinn to throw 40 passes.
  4. The biggest issue is the back 2 levels don’t understand their rules. You can switch or basically play man.. Each has advantages and disadvantages vs certain concepts, but the key is all the players seeing it the same way. Can’t have 1 passing a player off and the other sticking to man principles. The rules are secondary. What is important is the coaches ability to teach their rules and get everyone on the same page. That is not happening
  5. not sure that is skewed it is Quinn's first 2.25 games, since he only played about a quarter vs Bama. That is all of Maalik's throws this season.
  6. Quinn's 1st 67 passes: 67 att, 46 comp, 68.5%, 648 yards, 9.67 per/att, 6 TDs, 2 ints Maalik's 1st 70 passes 70 att, 39 comp, 55.7%, 465 yards, 6.64 per/att, 3 TDs, 3 Ints..
  7. If I remember correctly Texas had 3 coverage busts on the final drive of the OU game. I believe Ford and Williams jumped the RB and left Stoops uncovered. The pass rush can mask coverage bust, but that does not mean they are not there. Texas has been simply god awful in the 2 minute defense this year. Overall the defense has been damn good, but it certainly has weaknesses people can attack.
  8. I didnt go through it, but after Houston you can understand why people would point this out. The only way Texas stops this is with a sack. Lane disciplined lacked, but pressure was there. The 2nd/3rd level was in complete disarray.
  9. That is 2 TDs KSU scored on coverage busts. Its got to get cleaned up this week, because Texas is probably going to see 50 pass attempts tomorrow.
  10. Watch this at 19.30.. this is exactly what myself and Scipio are talking about. This is a clinic in how not to defend a mesh concept on a KSU TD pass. Watching Watts (I think) and Gbenda here is almost comical. Pretty clear there is nobody communicating that crossers are coming.
  11. I put that more in the dont ask players to do shit they can not do category.
  12. I would settle for not asking Sanders to block TCU's best pass rusher 1 on 1. Sark did that vs Houston and that is how Ewers got injured
  13. Texas runs a lot of cover 4 match, which uses a lot of man principles. Texas DBs seem to have issues counting to 2-3.. Lot of errors in assigning who is the #1 and who is the #2, etc. Too lazy to look, but I am sure someone can find examples. Simple example would be like a post/wheel concept. Outside WR runs a post (he is #1 at the snap) and the slot runs a wheel (he is #2 on snap).. WR#1 breaks inside - he becomes #2. The slot breaks outside, he becomes #1.. In this case the the safety would get the post in Man and the CB would get the wheel in man. Texas is screwing up passing off the WRs at least 3-5 times a game. Its also why condensed/bunch sets throw them off.
  14. This was another communication breakdown. Brooks passed the post of to Williams. Williams thought 1 had declared. People can feel free to argue who was at fault, but the root of the Texas pass coverage issues are communication. They struggle vs Bunch and Switch concepts (even simple concepts). Some of those issues may be the large rotations that Texas has played. Akina used to talk about secondary needing to have a hive mind. That is clearly not the case right now.
  15. https://www.yalejreg.com/nc/sign-stealing-and-the-antitrust-laws/ for context
  16. You know that Murphy and Sweat have been amazing, when there is a whole thread on Surly and not a single person bitched about their play. That is more impressive than winning the Outland Trophy
  17. KSU didnt shred the Texas defense throwing the ball, but the 8 yards par attempt with just a 1 int was below expectations. Howard has had 3 games vs P5 were he threw 30+ attempts this season prior to the Texas game. He was 67-115 (58.2%), 686 yards, and 4 TDs, and 5 ints averaging 5.95 per att.
  18. You never know how people work together and secondary is pretty important piece of a defense.
  19. I like PK, I just dont have a strong feeling there. I want him stay, but I would not be in meltdown mode if he left. I still think the biggest mistake Sark made coaching was filling out the defensive staff, prior to having the DC. I realize this was probably a pivot from his 1st choice. PK is definitely a solid DC. We are all nitpicking the defense, because that is what message boards/fans do. The overall results have been very good, but it is frustrating to watch teams become 1 dimensional and still have success. I doubt he leaves for USC, so this is probably all just nonsense.
  20. I am not sure how I feel about this, but I will say I would trade PK for Aranda.. I know that is peak message board nonsense, but that is my dream scenario.
  21. It does remind me, but someone needs to tell the secondary that the sideline is their friend..
  22. Grass coverage and lack of pattern matching is an issue. The 3-5 coverage bust a game is the biggest issue. Those are generally free yards
  23. Its the situational awareness of the secondary play that get me. You want to play at 5 and bail out with a 20 pt lead on 1st 10, I can deal with that. It just kills me when its 3rd and 4 and they play 5 yards off (usually on the field side, Watts rarely plays off) and bail. That may go to Sark's comments "DB play the technique based on coverage called". I hope that is not the case.
