The offensive staff kneecapped this year. OL was atrocious. There is a difference between a poor OL and a disaster. The Florida game was a disaster. So much immediate pressure. Big issue was the defense going from elite to merely good. 2024 defense gave up 14.8 pts in SEC play vs 25.8 this year. The fact of the matter is Texas has been led by the defense. This year it slipped. The offense has yet to be a high-level unit under Sark.
There reasons were multiple and Ewers was a part of that. Pocket presence was a wreck, which made the OL look worse. He was a turnover machine in his final year, nobody seems to remember that. The OL was one of the best pass blocking units in the country. RB was an issue in his last year. Running struggled vs high-end opponents (not unusual). Texas had drops and penalties that made things harder. All that said the defense was the reason Texas won 13 games. Ewers was solid QB here but was not really capable of carrying a team. Not sure why this BS is starting up again. Ewers has posted a 27.4 and a 34.7 QBR in his 2 starts. PFF gave him a 47.7 grade vs the Bucs and 59.2 vs the Bengals. I hope he continues to improve and becomes an NFL starter, but there is no reason to dig up this BS based on his first 2 starts.
This is a bit overboard. Texas was a good pass blocking unit last year. Quinn was never hurting for targets at Texas. Just look at the skill position players Quinn had at Texas: Bijan, Rojo, Brooks, and Blue were all drafted. Worthy, Whittingham, Mitchell, and Golden at WR Helm and Sanders all drafted. Reason people loved Quinn going to Miami was it was a great fit for Quinn. Lot of quick passing and a smart OC that schemes up a lot of quick open looks. I am not sure what Sark should have done other than surround him with a better run game (that is on Flood and Ill beat that drum this offseason). Sark went to a short, rhythm passing game with Quinn. We all know Quinn is good when you can keep him on schedule. It his ability to stay in control when things break down that will make or break his NFL career.
No, it was the 3. I know ESPN and the committee told you how to think and you sopped that up like gravy with a biscuit, but it requires little critical thinking to realize that beating Georgia or OSU would have done the job. Texas's chances were dealt a massive blow after the Georgia game. Texas was technically in the playoffs, until that loss. The committee dropped them from 10 to 17. Losing 7 spots playing the #5 team on the road seemed overly punitive. You could argue that was the death knell. It is moronic to argue that if Texas won that game, they would not have made the playoffs.
I think the expectations should be getting into the playoffs and competing for SEC championships. By that I mean Texas should be in the discussion for the SEC champ game the last 2 weeks of the season. If a strange world with unbalanced schedules, so weird things can happen. Playoffs are just as odd, the path for wins is probably best at the 5 seed. Texas won 2 playoff games last year and did not beat a single NC contender. That is why it is tough to say Texas should be in the quarter finals of the playoffs. Lot of it comes down to luck of the draw.
No idea how the OSU game plays out, if you change part of it. They played pretty conservative throughout the game. That said, I think this was my issue with the RB room. When they got good blocking (rare occurrence), the RBs turned it into 8-15 yards. That was difference between Brooks and this group. Both were pretty poor in short yardage, but when Brooks got the blocking or made someone miss it was going to be an explosive. I think that probably fits Sark's offense more than a power Rb. Still amazing me that Texas has started a RB that was pushed out of the starting spot by a sophomore named Tiger Riden in High School.
It is flat out that if Texas is 10-2, Texas is in the playoffs. That means beating OSU, Florida, or Georgia would have put Texas in. Trying to say it was because of a singular loss to any of those teams is just wrong
He has already gotten a first round grade Forgot the guy, but he had Goosby the #1 OT in the draft. CBS Sports has him #7 overall. He has elite traits. I don’t think he played quite to that level, but I understand the projection. I don’t think he will be a consensus 1st round guy this year, but who knows.
Put this in the 2026 roster, but belongs here Wisner was 172nd in yards per attempt out of 200 RBs He was 144th out of 197 FBS RBs in yards after contact Breakaway percentage 193rd out of 200 RBs Here is 2024 Yards/att: 140th out of 197 YArds after contact: 146th out 200 Breakaway %: 150th out of 200 Those are just bad numbers. Wisner is a patient runner, but he is not explosive or powerful
This is not untrue, but he did little with his carries. His 2025 stats: Wisner was 172nd in yards per attempt out of 200 RBs He was 144th out of 197 FBS RBs in yards after contact Breakaway percentage 193rd out of 200 RBs Here is 2024 Yards/att: 140th out of 197 YArds after contact: 146th out 200 Breakaway %: 150th out of 200 Those are just bad numbers
I think that was more scheme related. OU and A&M can be unsound and particularly vulnerable to outside zone. OSU was completely uninterested in stopping the run vs Texas on standard downs. That was pointed out after the game and people completely denied it, until about 2-3 games later
I didn’t say it is a stretch to pay a WR1. I simply said there would be a lot of demand for Wingo in the portal. He is a menace with the ball in his hands. Just look at his screen production. Georgia took an athlete playing WR last year. HIs name was Zachariah Branch. Like 70% of his catches came inside of 10 yards on the LOS. He transformed their offense. People pay for playmakers even if they are still raw
I happy to point to Wingo's flaws. His hands and route running, but you cannot watch him play and not see his upside. He would be scary, if he ever learned to play WR. He would get picked up immediately in the portal and paid.
Contact balance has been an issue for the Texas RB room for 2 years. Baxter had some moments as a freshman, but they were few and far between. Biggest issue for Baxter was the ability to stay healthy. He went out with a slight injury in his first game and it was not the only game. Felt like he was never a 100%. It could just be bad luck, but it is hard to put faith in a RB that has trouble staying healthy. I hope for him it was just a case a bad luck and he can stay healthy and fulfill his potential at another school.
I tend to agree with this idea, but I think this is about ROC and wins above replacement. Fans tend to think the back-ups will come in the next year and be better than the outgoing starters. It is a classic fan mistake. It is bit different in this portal world. There are positions that are a premium and hard to replace (LT/DT/Edge). RB tends to be one of the easiest positions to find quality. For $1 million you should be able to find two quality RBs. There are always risks, but finding quality RBs and WRs in the portal is not like trying to solve Fermat's last theorem.
Just look at the top SEC rushers this year.
1. Ahmad Hardy- transfer from Louisiana-Monroe
2. Kewan Lacy- transfer from Mizzu
3. Baugh
4. Mike Washington- transfer New Mexico State
5. Desean Bishop
6. Cobb
7. Pavia- transfer
8. Wisner
9. Frazier
10. Seth McGowan- tranfer New Mexico State
You also have Fluff Bothwell #12. transfer South Alabama
There is lot of good RBs that come available. I am probably in the minority, but I am not someone that wants to see Texas in a bidding war for Baugh.
This bowl is going to be interesting. Clark and Simon are going to have their job interviews.
We may see a target in Jordan Marshall from Michigan. I would love to see him in a Texas uniform next year. 85.5 PFF grade. No idea if he is looking around, but I would check the tires there.
This was his first year on campus. No idea what you are talking about with the redshirting twice.

just because you are on Surly, doesnt mean you need to be a surly prick.
you did not look too deeply. He played 3 games and had 29 carries for 122 yards (4.21 per 2nd to only Wisner among RBs). I assume the 3 games was to keep his redshirt.
Led the team in yards vs UTEP/ 17 carries 67 yards. I believe it was reported that he had something like 70 yards after contact in that game. Lot of fans wanted to see him get a chance vs legit competition, but that staff thought differently.
