  1. Wide Receiver/Tight End Helm had a bad hold and Sanders blew a pass pro for a sack (though the QB needs a better internal clock on play action when he knows his blindside is being protected by a questionable pass blocker) but JT moved a little better and looks around 80%. Worthy was terrific in the first half and disappeared in the second. Adonai Mitchell was quiet outside of his 14 yard touchdown catch. He also had a couple of blocks! It’s striking to see Houston spam their greatest hits on the same play over and over while Texas seems to require carefully constructed set pieces on every drive rather than just building out some core stuff of their own. I am going to disagree here. This is a play that looks great on the chalk board, but it is just poorly designed. Any play that asks Sanders to block the opponents best pass rusher 1 on 1 is a poor design. This is obvious mismatch in the favor of the defense. Lets not make excuses and say "QB needs to realize this play design is fucked, so he has to throw it quickly".
  2. It’s amazing how people bitch when the deep ball doesn’t work, but bitch when Quinn checks down instead of throwing deep into coverage.. the only consistent is people bitch
  3. I hope Brooks and Baxter both over 100 vs BYU and Maalik is mostly just asked to be a game manager as Texas wins comfortably
  4. That was a team with crazy catch radius. LJH and Colin Johnson could go up and catch anything.
  5. The are good/great receivers, but I don’t think they have a large catch radius. Gerry has even said Sanders will get dinged in the draft for catch radius. Quinn benefits from Sanders and X ability to get open, but they don’t make incredible catches. I am only commenting on catch radius, not overall ability to play receiver. Athletic and fast, yes..
  6. He has had one or 2 nice catches around the LOS, but that is about it. He also dropped 2 TDs
  7. I didn’t think about this, but there is another angle to this. Arch has 4 games to play. It’s possible that Arch could start in Quinn’s absence and still retain his redshirt.. I guess we will find out later today or tomorrow on how long Quinn is out
  8. Outside of Mitchell, who has a large catch radius for Texas?
  9. If we used the same sample size we would have written off Quinn early against Rice. Murphy may not be ready to take the reins of a high profile top 10 team, but we don't really know that yet. I think we'll get the opportunity to find out against BYU in a few days. The difference being Ewers was very accurate as a recruit. Maalik completed less than 60% of his passes in HS, so accuracy is a reasonable question. Most QBs don’t improve in accuracy as they progress through levels of competition. Josh Allen is the exception, not the rule
  10. I would agree with a caveat. Texas got some nice natural pressure early and Smith was wildly inaccurate.. PK blitzed more as Smith was dissecting the defense. I am not sure if it is the liberal substitutions (some of that out of necessity later in the game), but communication in the secondary is wretched. When that is a problem, blitzing highlights the problems.
  11. Yes… Quinn isn’t perfect, but he is putting up numbers. Pretty hard to unseat a starter, let alone one that will easily be projected as a top 10 QB next year (if he comes back). I don’t think that is going to happen, so this is probably just a waste of time to discuss
  12. Barron is awesome at star. He probably the 2nd best player on defense. He can’t be moved. He is just too important. The fact that we are only seeing Williams makes me wonder about recruiting and development. It’s not Taaffe and Thompson’s fault that Texas can’t find/develop someone to at least take some snaps from them
  13. Many are saying the sack was the cause of the injury. If you are saying drawing up a play where Sanders is responsible for blocking Houston’s best pass rusher 1 on 1 was unnecessary and stupid, than I agree
  14. “I’m happy to know when I wake up tomorrow morning we’ll be 6-1 and not 5-2,” Sarkisian said. “That’s the first part. The second part I think holds true to the way we practiced and prepared. I thought we had a great week of practice, great week of preparation, and I thought we played that way at the start of the football game to jump ahead, 21-0. But the lesson learned here is we have to have a killer instinct.” You may want to talk to your defensive staff about this Sark. When you are up 21-0 in the 2Q and decide to play 5-7 back-ups to open up a series on defense, which ended in a TD, that it’s a killer instinct. Just me, but that kind of sends a completely different message
  15. Based on one single off target pass? I reserve judgement until he gets more time under live fire. It’s a small sample size, but he has missed two open WRs this year. People love the obvious arm strength, but I am more worried about his touch and accuracy. If you going to throw Nolan Ryan fast balls, you better be on target. WRs don’t have much time to adjust. We will see how good Sark is as a developer of QBs. Maalik is going to have to show better accuracy, than he showed in HS for Texas to win out
  16. It appeared the LBs were over-correcting from the OU game. There were several plays both LBs were yards off the LOS staring the QB down. 1 might have been a spy, but not both. Safety play is just a problem. There is a lack athleticism there. Crawford is fast, but just doesn’t have the instincts. I want to see more Williams, but he plays behind Catalon. It would be nice to see some potential at FS..

    Texas RB Talk

Baxter looked like his recruiting rankings vs Houston.. He probably should have had more touches. He was getting downhill in a hurry and Texas needs that. His blocking in the Red Cat was excellent.. He was physical in every aspect. He was the biggest positive of the game
  18. Banks has been dealing with an ankle injury most of the year.. I think is more about health, than regression
  19. Correct. That is view from behind. Most of this is based on a former Sooner, Spencer Tillman, losing his shit over the spot in the booth
  20. Ill never understand this. Tough to go 1st round as a traditional ILB. Being able to rush the passer is worth a couple rounds in the draft. IF you play ILB, you should pray for a chance to occasionally come of the edge.
  21. Malcolm Brown would like a word with you. You have Ingram and Brown that both have multiple NFL seasons (is Brown still in the league?)and never broke 1K season in college. 2010, 2014, and 2017 were the worst rushing teams. They happen to correlate with bad QB and OL play.. 2010 Gilbert completed 59% for 10 TDs/17ints. 2014 Swoopes 58% 13TDs, 11 ints. 2017 Elhinger/Beuchele 59.7% 18Tds/11ints. 2023 season is probably the best situation any runner has seen at Texas in a very long time. Brooks was named mid-season All-American and has never been the focus of opposing DC through 6 games. The running game is rolling, because of the passing game. Sark has even said "we pass to open up the run" in a press conference this year.
  22. I think the past RB woes are more about shitty OLs and poor QB play, than talent at RB
  23. Someone can you they are terminally sick. That does not mean you are prepared to watch it happen. Some kids will stay, because it is all about playing time next year. Some will watch that disaster and say they dont want to be a part of that dumpster fire.
  24. You just can not have 2 guards that will have a couple assignment busts a game. Despite Brook's production, Texas is a passing team.
  25. 100%. I think Texas scores vs OU with Rojo. He was better than Bijan in short yardage situations. Sometimes aggression trumps patience. The OL is blocking better this year, but still has way too many busts.
