  1. This play aside, it very apparent that communication is a major problem on the OL currently. Its the 1st game, so a lot can change. It needs to be fixed.
  2. I am not a fan of Mitchell in the box there. I absolutely hate the RB being 7 yards deep.
  3. Helm did not touch a single Rice player. You need to watch it again. Banks plays for Texas
  4. I watched it. I will disagree. I think that is Ian Boyd level thinking. It looks like a good plan on a chalk board, but that isnt working in real life. You have a WR trying to reach a defender with leverage. If that is the plan, you will lose 90% of the time. They are called wide receivers for a reason. A simple call for a chip would have gone a long way. Helm didnt touch a single defender. All he did was push Bank's back when Banks was on the LB. Personally, if Quinn went under center there, nobody is talking about this
  5. The guy is aligned inside of Mitchell. He is not going to be able to make that block. There needed to be a call there or tighten up the splits
  6. like what happened against Rice. Texas was 0-6 on deep balls and Sark went RPO heavy and they rolled off 3 TDs.. oh wait
  7. Games like Kansas, Baylor, and ISU make me wonder what games Sark was stubborn. Hell, even TCU Sark spread it out late (too late), but still changed his game plan. I do think Sark suffers from what most high profile play callers suffer from. They all want to score lots of points and make it look pretty. Anyone remember Strong showing 5 man boxes to Kingsbury and Mahomes still thew it 40-50 times? Sark is a big game hunter. He cant help himself to go for some big shots. Lot of these guys just get bored, if the mundane works.
  8. I think this game comes down to Sark's patience and 1st downs for the Texas offense. I believe the Washington DC said something like "he wanted to see, if Sark could be patient" in the Bowl game. Will Sark be happy to take what Bama gives him or will he succumb to the desire for big plays. Its paramount for Texas to stay on schedule on offense. IF Bama gives you the underneath throws and makes you execute for 12 plays to score, take it.
  9. Perkins best game last year was vs Arkansas and he was mostly used as a spy. He actually got a couple sacks in that role. I said Hill for a couple reasons. #1 Ford is too valuable in pass coverage #2 Milroe is a big dude. 6'2 like 220-230. I am not sure I like anyone in the secondary trying to tackle him 1 on 1. keep in mind, you cant just make Hill the full time spy. You are going to have to mix it up. If you dont use someone like Hill, you have to pick someone. So who do you want to do it?
  10. I think Any Hill is fine in that regard. He closes really fast and is very physical. The interesting one I heard is Derek Williams.. Though I am not sure he has enough mass for it, but is definitely physical.
  11. Here is an example. Connor is not engaged with a pass rusher and completely ignoring anything to his left (or in this case behind him). Texas gives up the sack to a 3 man rush vs Rice.

I do like the Coach's point of the RB being 7 yards deep. Not to start the age old argument, but it would love to see Ewers under center there.

The defender is inside him crashing down. I am not saying Mitchell showed tremendous effort, but he is not going to get there. Expecting him to make that block is Ian Boyd like. Watching it I assumed it was a miscommunication between Helm, who touches absolutely nobody there, and Mitchell. With him lined up inside of Mitchell, there needs to be a call there and at least get Helm to chip to give Mitchell a chance. Another case where there are 3 blockers for 2 defenders and only 1 defender is touched.
  14. If you miss on a deep throw, it is always better to miss short than long. Missing long has 0 chance of a good result. Missing short gives you a chance at PI or a play from your WR, obviously there are limits to how short
  15. The 1st one to Worthy was under-throw, but certainly not terrible. The reason on the Mitchell throw is obvious. He is getting pressure right up the middle. He throws it off his back foot fading away. You can certainly argue that was a business decision, but that is pressure induced.
  16. If you watch some of the pass plays the issue is pretty obvious. So many times you will see an interior OL get perpendicular to the LOS in pass pro, while looking for work. It’s really bad. They pass a guy off, but turn with him. Easiest example to find is the Banks “sack”. I think Banks is turning him loose to Conner, but he is facing the other sideline with his back to Banks, so he can’t see him
  17. Watched some of the offense again. It is amazing how many times you see OL getting perpendicular to the LOS in pass pro looking for people
  18. I haven’t, but pretty good chance it is about Neto
  19. Connor is in that group also. He doesn’t move people. Campbell struggled also, but I think that was more about him playing his 1st game. We have seen him move people before. Majors is never going to be a road grader. He can be adequate, but his weakness is magnified when you put a guard next him with the same struggles.
  20. I honestly doubt people have the man power to do this in college. One reason why have doubts about PFF. You have like 60 games a week. Just don’t see how they can legitimately watch each player on every play
  21. This is a tough one. Typical screen is pretty much a team play. Do you give Brooks 40 yards and Quinn 0, despite Brooks going to the end zone untouched? He had the easiest job on the field. Selling it is more on the QB there, but most of the credit should go to the blockers. A quick arrow pass to RB, who breaks a tackle (Colorado game), most credit should go to the OC/RB. If you hit a check down that was your 3rd option under duress, the QB deserves yardage. You run a RPo and make the right read and Sanders goes untouched for 50 yards for a TD, not sure how you split that up.
  22. It’s going to be interesting to see the depth chart for Bama at Guard. Neto was the best on the day, with the caveat he came in later vs a more tired defense. Connor and Campbell were straight up poor. Campbell is in a boot. I wouldn’t be surprised to see 2 new starters for Bama, health permitting on Hutson.
  23. I watched that Colorado game. I think the RB had over 100 yards of YAC alone. They didn’t hit a lot of balls down the field. Colorado shredded TCU underneath. The offense mostly stayed on schedule. Like to see Sark emphasize efficiency over explosive in the passing game, until Quinn and the OL grow up
  24. Anyone have the PFF grades from this game?
