  1. Sam is just a guy that was easy to root for. He maximized his talent and he would run into a wall, if he thought that would get the win
  2. The odd thing is I dont think Ewers is immobile. He has actually shown the ability to scramble (Washington game). He just has really bad pocket awareness. We saw him move in the pocket with minimal pressure and somehow run into a pass rusher that is engaged with a blocker in the Ark game. Somehow, he didnt notice the 600 pounds of humanity. it's bizarre

  4. More concerned a 3rd year starter is making decisions like throwing an obviously covered screen pass to Blue, than rehashing this play
  5. Really liked the traditional delay screen to Blue that essentially sealed the game for Texas. Based on my viewing that DL is really undisciplined (Turner adds dirty to that). Wouldnt mind seeing that screen and some draws (not sure I can remember running one this year).
  6. This all started based on people saying you cannot throw when teams show a 3 high shell pre-snap. I said what they do after the pre-snap look is more important. In theory it is easier to throw vs 6 defenders dropping back vs 7 defenders typically (assuming you pick up the blitz, which happened). 1 less defender should equal more space. The point is not to be fooled by pre-snap looks. I believe Quinn struggles vs the 3 high, because he is slow to make post-snap reads (3 high makes it easier to disguise coverages). He excels when he has a clean pre-snap read.
  7. Arkansas has 5 rushers and 6 players dropping into coverage. That is easier to throw on than the typical 4 rushers and 7 players dropping back. You are just spitting out BS to defend Ewers at any cost, without even thinking.
  8. this was exactly my point. You have "experts" saying "its 3 high, you cant throw it deep". Arkansas brought 5 rushers on this play.
  9. Arkansas gave up 850 passing yard the 2 prior games. They held DB tryouts in the off-weak. You think passing the ball vs Ark is what they wanted Texas to do? Again running the football is not the only way to beat that look. 5 years of watching ISU should make that apparent
  10. That thinking is exactly why Iowa State used to beat Tom Herman's ass. They continually had one of the best rush defenses in the Big 12. The 3 deep can be passed on, that is how teams beat ISU defenses. Problem is people look at the pre-snap look and do not look at what the defenses moves into. Its generally a cover 2 or cover 3. Not always a drop 8 look. You can bring pressure out of it. Best way to attack it is go extreme. Hard to disguise your looks vs empty or Sark used to go with the 6 OL look to run.
  11. its simple. Texas has a NC caliber team, and the starting QB is currently ranked 13th among SEC QBs by PFF. Nobody cares if a QB sucks on a 5-7 team. They tend to get pissy when the QB appears to be the biggest liability to winning a NC
  12. too lazy to go back and find my post in the Texas v ark thread, but I pulled out 2 looks that Ark ran vs Tenn that I thought Texas would see in the game. 1 was the 3 high look. They gave Tenn the run much of the game and completely shut down the passing game. RB had about as many yards rushing as Nico had passing. I am sure you saw that, if you looked to crop out some look from the game The other look was a 7 man pressure, where they dropped 2 and brought 5

  14. not sure it really matters, but Surly going Surly. Jones threw a higher percentage of passes in games viewed past the 10-yard mark than Tagovailoa with 85 attempts to Tua’s 78. This is most likely due to the higher volume of RPO’s with Tagovailoa taking snaps. Surprisingly, it was passing between the hashes that bothered Mac Jones. https://www.profootballnetwork.com/tua-tagovailoa-mac-jones-better-alabama-qb-prospect/ https://www.theringer.com/nfl/2021/12/1/22811214/tua-tagovailoa-rpo-offense-miami-dolphins the point was Sark will adapt is offense to the strengths of his QBs. Given Arch's obvious deep ball ability, he is more suited to play-action shots than Ewers. That is not to say that Arch will not be great at RPOs. You could see the difference in the way Sark called games with Arch vs Ewers. Sark admitted he called too many deep shots in Arch's first start. He was probably giddy with the idea of having the deep ball back in his playbook.
  15. Really hard to tell. He brings a deep ball and running to the game. I also think he is excellent with his fakes and better in the pocket (despite trying to out run an NFL LB to the edge vs Georgia). Texas has become a team the attacks the edges under Quinn. Lot of OZ and passes to the flats. That isnt a great combination. Arch may help open up the run game.
  16. Is it? You have seen Quinn when there is no pressure and the 1st read is open (watch Florida game) and then you see I completely different Quinn when things get muddied.
  17. The offense would likely be different. Sark has talked about how Tau and Mac Jones had different offenses. Tau was predominantly RPO and Mac was predominantly play action. I do agree Arch is not as good on the short timing routes as Quinn. Quinn is typically elite in that area. Quinn struggles when teams take away the flats from him. The issue for Quinn is the consistency. This was the year we all assumed Quinn would play at a consistent level. Michigan sucked us in. He is still the same the QB. He struggles with deep balls, he is slow through his progressions, poor footwork, and bad pocket feel. I fell in love with the promise of Quinn's talent, but now the tape is starting to win me over. This just seems to be who Quinn is. Arch may be similar. We do not know for sure how he would progress in a game or over the several games. I would assume he improves. Texas fans are always hard on QBs. Freshmen Colt and Vince got a lot of heat from fans. I remember defending freshman Sam and Quinn. All of them improved, but only Quinn has needed to be defended as a 3rd year starter.
  18. The frustrating part is Texas has a championship caliber defense this year. NFL WRs, TE, and OL. I am not sure Texas will have the same quality parts next year.
  19. I just dont understand this logic. Do we say that about other positions? Texas isnt the same program, so the standards have changed. I think that is a good thing. The crazy thing about Texas fans is a see a lot of people say the support Quinn and should be the QB the rest of the year, but he better get out after this year. It is some pretty twisted logic. Imagine saying that about Bijan, Brooks, Banks, etc
  20. If it is a 1 read route, then being late and floating it is worse.
  21. Ball to Wingo was floated and late, but Moore is wide ass open
  22. I always love the deep ball discussions here. What about the throw 1.5 years ago? Ewers has played a lot of football the tape does not lie. He struggles throwing the deep ball. Yes, he will have a game he does it well every once and a while, but that is it. His deep ball is not something the team can rely on. That is the reason why people can remember a deep ball from 1.5 years ago, because they are so infrequent.
  23. Before the Vandy game I said the 1st half maybe the most important half of Quinn’s career. I wouldn’t say that about Kentucky, but another ugly 1st half and it will get interesting. That probably means he comes out and looks great in the 1st half vs Kentucky. Just because that is the roller coaster that Quinn is right now
  24. I love this defense. I don’t think it is like that NC Georgia defense, that had high round picks every where. They are one of the best coordinated defenses I have seen. They get turnovers and don’t give up explosives. I just think over the course of what would be 15-16 games, the odds are likely you run into a QB that just plays out of his mind or an OC creates a great game plan. Even The Bama and Georgia NC defenses needed to be bailed out by their offense in the playoffs
  25. Just modern football. It’s extremely hard to go a season where someone doesn’t get you. Texas has only played 1 top 20 offense this year by FEI (18 Georgia). To win a title there will be a game the offense needs to score 27 or more. I hope I am wrong about that, because it would be great to watch the defense hold everyone below 17 pts.
