  1. The biggest difference between last year’s defense and this year’s is situational defense. Texas was 94th in opponent 3rd down conversions last year, they are 2nd in the nation this year. They are 12th in red zone TD percentage. Last years defense was solid, but struggled to get off the field (lots of long drives). This year’s defense gets off the field
  2. It’s Worthy. Mitchell is very good at WR things. Routes and catching the ball. Worthy is a TD waiting to happen. He struggles making contested catches (he is like 160 pounds), but give him any space and he can make it a TD. I would guess Washington will play to stop explosive plays. Force Sark to be patient, which he can struggle with. Your DC said something about that last year. It’s one reason I think the Texas run game could be the difference in the game. If they can run consistently, that will put your defense in a bind.
  3. More confident. I think Washington has a better downfield passing game and that is my biggest fear in this game.
  4. 10.52 100 for a Safety is flying. I am not sure I am ready to go from Thompson/Taafee era to the Williams/Filsaime era. That is going to be a shock to my eyes
  5. I keep seeing the Alamo bowl being referenced. You guys do realize this is the playoffs and not a shit tier bowl game, right? Nobody will be sitting out getting ready for the NFL combine in this game. Of course several players from both teams played in that game last year, but neither team will be exactly the same for this one. Its not like the starting LB and second leading tackler on the team is going to decide his has better shit to do, than to play Washington like last year
  6. That is how this generally works. IF you take the best run of the day out and it is still over 4 yards a carry, that is pretty fucking good. That is consistent success running the ball.
  7. Lets be honest about the Oregon game.. Oregon averaged 6.72 yards/play in the rematch (6.44 in the first game). They ran the ball 20 times for 124 yards. That was 6.2 yards. Big difference was Oregon running the ball 40 times for 204 in the first game. Big difference between the games was Oregon going 3-10 on 3rd down in the rematch, opposed to 10-16 in the 1st game. Washington defense was not very good in either game, but they made timely plays in the Championship game.
  8. Texas is the better team. They have multiple ways to win this game. Love Texas in a 5 game series, but this is 1 game and Washington's #1 strength is Texas's weakness. I am pretty confident in Sweat and Murphy to at least limit the Washington run game. 90% of the talk about this game has been Washington offense vs the Texas defense. I think this game is probably decided by the Texas OL vs the Washington front 7. If Texas gets the run game going (consistency, not 1-2 big plays), I dont see a way Washington wins.
  9. might want to send that to PK, instead of Sark.. Nice design to get a 1 on 1 match-up with a safety.
  10. Awhile ago Gerry made some comments on McKinley. He said he is like Collins in more than one way. I took that to mean the work ethic/love of the game. NFL talent, questionable motor. Foster is Bledsoe. Very athletic. Super raw. Low floor/ High ceiling kid..
  11. Washington is undefeated. I have not seen this fragile Washington team. You are correct in physicality. Texas wins easily, if they dominate the LOS. That means stopping the run with honest to light boxes, getting pressure with 4, and hitting 150+ rushing the football.
  12. There are a lot of suggestion in here, but the key is for PK to use all of them. Penix is like 30 years old and in his 6th year. They have probably 3 WRs that will get drafted. Texas will need to mix up the coverages and pressures to keep Penix guessing. Another key will be the ability to disguise coverages. Show man coverage and drop into zone. If Penix gets comfortable with what he is seeing, it will be a long night.
  13. He was a sub-11 100 guy in HS. He has speed and is a playmaker with the ball. He is a low risk call option. At worst he is sorely needed depth at WR, while upgrading special teams. Best case he takes a the next step at WR and becomes consistent playmaker there.
  14. Holy shit, I totally missed that. Just saw a video pop on YouTube..
  15. Where’s the Kobie Black news? He committed
  16. You have 3 Texas players that are in the portal and participating in the playoffs. I think he could have threaded the needle, if he chose to do so. You also have some QBs that, I don’t think have cemented their future college plans. I think Beck, JJ McCarthy, and Quinn all are possible NFL entrants. I am not convinced rushing into a marriage is the best course of action, unless you get a bullet proof situation like Ohio State. I don’t think Baylor (what a mess) or Oregon State (basically G5 now) qualify
  17. That was my point. Universities make exceptions for football players.
  18. Maalik had his choices.. He is choosing to maximize his opportunity. There is no reason to make it out to be anything more than that. It doesnt make him a shithead. It is just par for the course in today's landscape.
  19. If we look at the Bowl game. Texas did a great job vs the pass. They only gave up 1 explosive throw and that was on a trick play. In the 2 years at Washington, Penix's lowest yards per attempt was vs Texas. Texas defense had 2 issues in that game. #1 Washington was 13-23 on 3/4th down (57%). Texas is the #2 3rd down conversion defense in the nation this year (26.5%). Texas was 94th last year (41.3%). Hopefully, that improvement shows up in this game. The other issue was the run game. Texas gave up 158 yards and 5.64 yards/att. Texas is 4th in the country this year in rush defense (80.85 yards and 2.87 yard/att). That is an improvement from 33rd in the nation (125.7 and 3.9 per/att)..
  20. We see transfer get in late every year. AD Mitchell hit the portal on the 18th,committed to Texas on Jan 20th, and was at Texas in the spring.
  21. its actually pretty mixed. They are ranking the bottom of the class higher, but are hammering the top of the class. ON3 has the lowest industry ranking on Baker (25 national vs 44 On3), Wingo (28 v 66), Black (44 v 97), Gibson (83 v 171), and Filsame (33 vs 61).. They are have the highest rankings on Mack (108v 58), Cruz (199 v 149), Wilson (239 v 90), Robinson (281 v 166), Washington (384 v 273), and January (488 v 288)..
  22. Worthy has his issues at times, but he is arguably the hardest cover in college football.
  23. https://www.ncaa.org/news/2023/10/4/media-center-di-council-approves-changes-to-notification-of-transfer-windows.aspx New transfer windows for Football Bowl Subdivision and Football Championship Subdivision football will include a 30-day window beginning the Monday after FBS conference championship games. For student-athletes on teams that compete in the postseason (for example: College Football Playoff, FCS championship, bowl games) there will be an additional five-day transfer window following the contest. That is just not true.. That also ignores that Sark said you could put your name in and stay for the playoffs. I dont hold anything against Maalik. He is doing what he thinks is best for him. It was it is and I would probably do the same, but he had the option to stay with the team. I believe others are taking Sark up on his offer.
  24. There is now a 5 day window after the playoffs. Sark also said he woudl let people that went into the portal participate in the playoffs, so this was his call not to play
