  1. Looking at doing a group trip here next January - anyone been? Day trips to Jost Van Dyke - White Bay to hit up Soggy Dollar Bar, probably some fishing and lots of relaxing. Not a Bonvoy member yet, but would join to rack up some points, I have Chase Sapphire points but not enough to cover the 70,000/night rate. Never been to BVI so not too familiar with the area, but flights seem to be a pain, flying through either Miami or San Juan then Beef Island followed by a short ferry ride. Small price to pay to avoid the riff-raff (I.e., overweight Aggies). https://www.marriott.com/en-us/hotels/eisak-scrub-island-resort-spa-and-marina-autograph-collection/overview/?scid=bb1a189a-fec3-4d19-a255-54ba596febe2&y_source=1_MzgxMzAzMC03MTUtbG9jYXRpb24uZ29vZ2xlX3dlYnNpdGVfb3ZlcnJpZGU%3D
  2. We went a few years ago, 4 couples without the kids amd had a blast. Lots of full day and 1/2 day excursions to stay busy if you don’t want stay at the resort all day. We did one trip through the hotel (river boat tour) and a few others we booked from a guy on the beach that hangs out by the hotel beach entrance and offers the same tours for way less $$. Erik Garcia I believe is his name, and he wears a TripAdvisor shirt so you can’t miss him. We did a 4 wheeler trip that was awesome (wear mosquito repellent!), a zip line trip in the jungle and we booked a private sailing trip on our own that was fantastic. Overall the resort was great - tons of wildlife like monkeys and iguanas at the resort as well as coati everywhere. The food was pretty impressive for an all-inclusive - plenty of variety and high quality. I would recommend upgrading the beverage package if you like the good stuff - the standard drinks were lower quality alcohol and wine. The vendors at the beach weren’t overly pushy, and you could get a decent massage on the beach for like $10 for 30 mins. No happy ending, however.
  3. Taco Bueno over Taco Bell all day….the bueno burger, muchaco and party menu were the tits. For those in South Austin, Taco Ranch is decent - reminds me of ‘80s Taco Bell or Bueno a bit. I’ve been hoping that’s what they are putting in on Walsh Tarlton as the color scheme is similar. Also heard there is a new Bueno at Wm Cannon & I-35.
  4. They drove up in a “Lincoln”….odd choice.
  5. Headed to the annual Yellow Rose golf tournament out at Avery Ranch. Hoping to get it in the hole. Wish me luck!
  6. Oh there was one particularly obnoxious drunk blonde SC fan, yelling “Go back to Texas you fucking hicks” at my buddy and I while we’re walking towards our car that night…but nothing could erase the smile on my face that night.
  7. So back from last weekends trip to BHM. They had 17 straight days of rain when we arrived, and 21 when we left. Ultimately leading to hot and humid golf played mostly cart path only. Overall the heat/humidity and getting no roll on drives made it pretty miserable golf-wise. Day 1 was at Farmlinks - played the 2nd set of tees which was a mistake after seeing that my low line drives were not getting any roll. Overall loved the course/layout, but muddy in parts and lots of walking in the terrible humidity soured it a bit. Looking forward to playing it again in more normal conditions. Day 2 was Oxmoor Valley - Ridge. Played with 2 guys and we settled on the orange tees (3rd set) - pretty similar story with balls plugging and hitting a lot of long iron approach shots. Decent course, very hilly and very few level lies. Next we played the short course - rained out after 3 holes. Ended up playing the next three rounds at Ross Bridge. Much of the same, but rounds 2 and 3 it started to dry out a bit and we played the whites which helped ease the pain. Love this course, though the bent grass greens were beat to hell. Why the f do people not fix their ball marks?? All in all I didn’t sniff breaking 80 (39 on back 9 of Ross Bridge was my best 9), and was over 90 4 of the 5 rounds. I’m a 9 handicap. The next golf trip will require cooler weather…
  8. Thanks for the tip….Don’t think we will be able to make it to that one but if so it’s #1 backup plan. Already have the hotel in Birmingham, 2 hour drive each way is a stretch for 1 round. Plus there will be plenty of consumption going on, so not advisable to add a 2 hour drive after.
  9. Headed to Birmingham next weekend for a golf trip - 2 rounds at Farmlinks and 4 rounds on the RTJ golf trail. Looking at playing Ross Bridge twice and then Oxmoor Valley - Ridge course and the short course (Valley course is under reconstruction). Anyone been out there, have any tips or recommendations for Birmingham area in general?
  10. More of a Seinfeld moment, but this happened last weekend. At Academy - the registers are staggered from the front to back. There were only 2 registers open, next to each other but the 2nd set of registers. Their was 1 long line for both registers, so the line snaked past the front registers. About a 10 minute painful wait, and right when I am next up I see a guy and his 2 kids come in from the side and go right up to the register at the split second it opens up. I try politely telling him a couple of times that there is a line, but he ignores me and pulls his crap out of the basket. Finally I am pissed he is ignoring me and raise my voice....his son turns to me and says “He’s deaf”...I respond “I don’t care, there is a line, you need to tell him.” Son tells the dad, he kinda glances my way but does t make eye contact, and continues unloading his basket. At this point the other register opens up, but I was still pissed...
  11. I tried to watch, down 54-37 when I started. 10 minutes later and the same score, with some of the most unwatchable basketball I’ve ever seen.
  12. Oh it’s happening....nice job!
  13. Should we start the Fire Sark thread yet?
  14. The day started off nice...slept in a bit for Labor Day. The wife (no pics) made pancakes & sausage. Tried a new Keurig coffee called "Dark Magic" - not realizing it was an omen for what was coming in a few hours. Made the mistake of brewing it on the "strong" setting. 1/2 a cup of half & half helped me guzzle down what tasted like ground dark roast slurry, and I thoroughly enjoyed my pancakes & sausage, with shitty (pun intended) sugar-free syrup laced with sorbitol (also probably contributing to the next set of events.) The next few hours were normal, I fired up the Green Egg to smoke some carnitas & chicken. That's when the first signs of problems started...the stomach started rumbling, but I was able to withstand those first few knocks on the sphincter. I was determined to make it long enough to get the egg up to temp, throw on the meat and then hit the bathroom. A few more rumblings, and then the first signs of real trouble happened. A bit of juice slipped past the goalie....I gave up on the egg and hustled to the bathroom, where as I pulled down the shorts & boxers, an explosion that surely rocked 1/2 of the neighborhood came out of my ass. As I gagged for fresh air to breathe, I looked over and saw about 10 squares of TP left, knowing that was not going to nearly be enough for the mess at hand. The smell reminded me of what I imagine that scene in Shawshank Redemption was like, as Andy crawled through the sewage pipe. The rest of the family thankfully was out at the neighborhood pool, so while there were no witnesses there was also nobody to help bring TP. And my reserve TP was out, the only remaining stash is in our detached garage. Oye! I broke all sorts of rules on the amount of wet wipes one should use, but that was the only option. Great Day!
  15. When I was 8, my family went on a trip to the Grand Canyon. We were out looking at the awesomeness, but then I realized they had left me. Oh well, life is what you make it. I searched forever, finally found them 25 years later in Silvertown.
  16. His wife’s FB page says 4/13. Not sure if on the radio or a podcast.
  17. Any update on Jeff Ward? His FB fan page says he is returning in March, but not clear where/when exactly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Southern comfort and Dr Pepper. Syrup with syrup.
