  1. Hindsight is 20/20. We returned 4 starters from a unit that did pretty well in 2020. Losing Cosmi - and Ehlinger - had a bigger impact than people anticipated. Same thing happened to Mack. No one noticed the OL was terrible until Colt left. Maybe Ewers can be the difference we need, but like I said, I'm from Missouri. Sark hasn't shown anyone jack to this point.
  2. Only for the ones who voted for this year! I see a 9/10 win prediction in someone's future... The problem is still the O and D line. Gifted skill players can make a big difference in year 1 on sheer athletic ability alone, but linemen and linebackers need more time to gain size and learn the necessary skills. Unfortunately those were our biggest weaknesses this year, and they won't be fixed in time for next year. And before any "yeah buts", remember that several preseason rags cited our offensive line as a strength this year. It's laughable now, but they were serious. It's going to happen again. I'm from Missouri on next year being better...and I hate Missouri.
  3. Yes. Here in AZ too and not relegated to bougieville. Ugly/shocking fashion choice? ✔ Pisses off the olds and the tsk-tskers? ✔ Teen fad checks out
  4. I agree, but it also shows that the folks behind the curtain are on board with Sark in a way that they weren't for Charlie and Tom. It only works when we all come together.
  5. Yeah but unless he's a George Wallace voter, that's an old school type of racism you don't see much anymore. I'm guessing he believes that everyone believes like he does, but he's the only one that's honest about it, and also has some sort of reasoning that would allow him to be so blatant without being rebuked by others.
  6. There was a distinct difference between the way Charlie and Herman were treated by the local media and fans. Charlie's first season was a huge honeymoon. Despite being destroyed by BYU and TCU (among others) there was an unreasoning optimism and general sense that Things Were Turning Around. It took 3 years for reality to take hold. When Herman lost to Maryland in his first game, the honeymoon was over. The only way I can understand that is because Herman rubbed people the wrong way. Maybe there's another explanation, but I can't see it.
  7. It seems like there are two camps. If you loathed Mack, you probably liked Charlie, hated Tom, and hope beyond hope for Sark. If you knew it was time for Mack to go but didn't hate him, then you probably thought Charlie was an abomination, considered Herman an improvement, and want Sark replaced by a top performer ASAP.
  8. Honestly, building a cathedral for your present coach and a former coach buying two houses next to campus and naming his dog Panzer is something I would expect in College Station. If there was a former coach that wanted to stay in CS, that is.
  9. Thanks for posting. I had forgotten that Norman is home to a cult.
  10. The point you're making me reminded me of this old gem talking about how the BCS system and ESPN had provided an unfair advantage to the SEC and resulted in their long run of dominance in the BCS era: Chuck Thompson - A Northern Manifesto for Southern Succession Kind of a quaint read now, but its interesting to see how some arguments shift over time.
  11. I support Venables to OU. I bet he doesn't stay 3 years though.
  12. The AD, Swarbrick, was present at practice that day. The video crew reported to him, not Kelly.
  13. This is very low-level trolling. I guess it's all people have. Kelly's only role in the fatal scissor lift incident was that he opted to move practice outside on a windy day because he hated the indoor facilities. The follow-up investigations listed numerous concerns related to safety, but the student's direct supervisor was the final decision-making authority on whether or not to use the lifts in high winds. Kelly himself played no role in that.
  14. Those players have only known Orgeron. Someone speaking in clear English is probably disorienting. Kelly has a history of winning and he'll probably do fine. It's taken for granted now, but Saban's robotic malevolence wasn't a good fit for Alabama initially. But they wanted to win and he was a winner. If he drowned bunnies for laughs they would turn a blind eye. Texas could take a lesson.
  15. Personally I'd like to see OU go after Charlie Strong. Lots of HC experience, Florida ties, currently Urban's assistant HC. They should give him a look.
  16. I don't know. Saban seems like kind of a jerk. Would he be a good fit for us? We like nice guys.
  17. I read your post. Then I reflected upon the last couple of times Texas reached a championship game of any kind, our current 5-7 record, and the fact that we are headed to the SEC. Then I reread your post. The conclusion I reached about your opinion wasn't favorable.
  18. Oh okay. He was mean to some GAs one time. Definitely don't want THAT guy.
  19. Would Kelly be a bad hire? In 18 years he's 166-62 with a BCS game, 2 playoff appearances, and he took Cincinnati to an Orange Bowl way back when. He's pretty solid, and I'd be more confident with him than SWS.
  20. I was curious about this and had to look it up, sticking only to rivalry games an average CFB fan would probably be familiar with. First off, a .792 win percentage is amazing in itself, and especially over +100 games. For reference, Texas has a win % of .776 over Rice (96 games) and .723 over Baylor (110 games), and while some may consider them rivals they're nowhere near Bedlam. The closest major rivalries that I found that were noteworthy and also lopsided af were Tennessee-Kentucky and Notre Dame-Navy. Tennessee holds a 77-20-8 advantage over Kentucky, or .771. Notre Dame holds an 80-13-1 advantage over Navy, or .856.
  21. These losing seasons are funny. First you hate ’em. Then you get used to ’em. Enough time passes, you get so you depend on them. That’s Longhorn football.
  22. The wound will be healed by a good coach. Since firing Mack our highlight has been a .650 coach bookended by two sub .500 coaches who both lost to Kansas. Our roster is 2/3 blue chips, which doesn't mean everything if some pieces are missing (see: Clemson) but it does mean that it's not a roster problem when we lose to teams with 2-3 blue chips.
  23. They said his nickname was Seven Win Steve? I'm confused
  24. I expect to be able to buy tickets for $5 at HEB next season like we could when I was a kid and Texas football was bad. Texas is 4-7. Okay. But why are they constantly hyping this team and making fans pay so much to watch them? Everyone should get season tickets when they buy a 20lb turkey and a 6 pack.
