  1. #18/22 Texas (3-3, 0-0 Big 12) vs South Florida (7-2, 0-0 American) Friday, December 2, 2022 – 6:00 p.m. Central Moody Center – Austin, Texas GameDay Quick Facts TELEVISION: The game will be televised on Longhorn Network with David Saltzman (pxp) and Andrea Lloyd on the call. RADIO: The game will be carried on 105.3 FM in Austin. Roger Wallace (pxp) and Kathy Harston (analyst) will call the action. The broadcast will be streamed on TexasSports.Com. SERIES: The series is tied 1-1. Most recently South Florida won in 2019 in Tampa with a 64-57 victory in the Longhorns season opener. Notables RORI'S RETURN: After sitting out the first five games of the season with a toe injury, sophomore All-American Rori Harmon made her return in the Longhorns win vs Princeton. Harmon played 24 minutes and scored 11 points and added two assists and one steal. Harmon was recently named to the Wade Trophy Watch list for the top collegiate women's basketball player, marking her eighth preseason honor. TOUGH SCHEDULE: The Longhorns have played a challenging schedule through their first six games. All three of their defeats are against top-25 teams with two of the three against top-10 teams. MAJOR MINUTES FOR THE FRESHMEN: The Texas freshmen Amina Muhammad and Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda have played significant minutes for the Longhorns. Muhammad is averaging 19.4 minutes per games and Mwenentanda is at 22.1 minutes. Muhammad scored a team-high 14 points in the Texas win over Rutgers in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament. GETTING DEFENSIVE: The Longhorns are holding opponents to 60.17 points per game this season. Every opponent Texas has faced has scored below their season scoring average for the game. The Longhorns rank third in the Big 12 in scoring defense.
  2. Good game against a quality opponent. I'd try letting Sonya bring the ball up versus pressure when Harmon is out.
  3. Excellent, thanks. No TV I guess.
  4. Hard to believe the loss one player could drop us from title contenda to unranked but I'm clinging to that hope now. Very disappointed but we knew we were extremely thin at guard. We also lost most of our staff and I wonder if we are getting some adequate instruction at the different positions, but the issue is mainly lack of ball handlers. When Rori comes back (I’m guessing not tonight but next Sunday vs Princeton) all the players will go back to their intended roles and I’ll bet we’re damned good again. This team obviously is flawed but still might slip through all the way to Dallas. We have some great pieces, we just need to get our captain back and get everyone working together. In the days of the portal, it may take longer for teams to show their true potential. Looks like the losers game tonight is still on the weird streaming service and not even on ESPN+. Furq.
  5. We really need Kyndall, but even when she was present, she had a hard time getting on the court. If she truly is having some “non-playing time” related mental issues, I’m sorry about that, but at this point it just feels like she scampered and let the team down. Vic obviously counted on her being the fourth guard and it’s hurting us now. With the new NIL mentality players are acknowledged to be massively important financially to teams. If you burn a scholarship and refuse to play you are definitely damaging to the team’s ability to make money in the tourney and be successful. The team has a responsibility to you, and you have a responsibility to the team. You may suck, but at least show up. (Still hating on Kawhi stealing 18 million off my Spurs and refusing to play..)
  6. The team, the coach, the crowd, the arena. This is not just a great game, it's the evolution of a program to greatness. Finally.
  7. No. 3/3 Women’s Basketball’s Rori Harmon and Shaylee Gonzales named to Wooden Award Watch List Way to go ladies!
  8. All of this. I didn’t realize it but Shaylee played 37 minutes versus UConn. She’s got a different skill set from Rori and under very difficult circumstances she laced them up and didn’t back down. She fought hard for our team and entire the fanbase should appreciate her effort. Thank you Shaylee. Moore was far more aggressive last night and I didn’t agree with some of the calls going against her. She was only able to stay on the floor for 22 minutes so that hurt her numbers (14 minutes vs Louisiana). Along with the foul trouble the lack of 3 point shooters may be hurting her game, but we only have a small sample size so far. I thought she was going to be this year’s stud but so far Sonya and Taylor look to be our scorers. If Rori plays or Fudd isn’t on fire we win that game….. or if we don’t miss the 10 FTs.. or if we aren’t playing in Storrs… I hope we get them again at the end of the year. Wasn’t a home and home was it?
  9. Jak, 5 for 7, 1 for 1 from three, 3 boards, 1 steal, 13 points, only 1 turnover and 2 fouls. Great game and huge improvement from the freshman!
  10. 7 point loss at their house w/o Rori. Calls going against us, Fudd on fire. Not bad, great job ladies. This game will help us greatly down the road.
  11. (Truly) Neutral court at the end of the year, we can beat them.
  12. Jak looking better! Wish Jones would have come back in sooner
  13. They are outplaying us more than just Rori being out and calls not going our way. Nice entry passes, great 3 point shooting - 50% to 37% , out-rebounding us 20-32, 18 assists to 5. Nice to play at home for them, but we have work to do.
  14. It is. Get Rori back, get everyone used to Vic's style of play, we will be fine. Wish we had another guard - ball handler - three point shooter. We miss Matharu.
  15. 4 on Aaliyah, bad call. It's a learning game at this point. What do we need to improve. Morris balling, Big East announcers annoying.
  16. Moore on the floor a lot. Shaylee not quite up to speed.
  17. Amo bringing it up? Sonya looking good
  18. With Rori out I’m tempering my expectations for the next few games. 25 turnovers in the last contest doesn’t bode well, but I’m expecting us to look better this time out. We were reeling from the loss of Harmon and it’s still early with many new players. AMo had 5 fouls, 3 TO and 3 points in 14 min. so she’s going to be focused and pissed. Taylor looked absolutely great but will have a much harder time going forward against taller players. We are so thin at guard we really need Sonya’s back to be better and we need her to have that sweet midrange game going, we are going to need the scoring. I’m hoping Vic uses Hadi more in this game, I think she can make a big difference, in rebounding, second chance points and picking up fouls on Geno’s bigs. If we can keep from turning the ball over and get it into the post with Gaston, AMO, Faye and Taylor we’ve got a shot. Someone needs to stop Fudd, I don’t know if that’s Holle or who but we got to get a hand in her face, she’s a great player.
  19. "Harmon was on the Texas bench wearing a boot during the game, and her status has been listed as day-to-day. Texas travels to face No. 6 UConn on Monday. The Huskies were also without one of their top guards, Caroline Ducharme, in their opener Thursday due to neck stiffness. "It's nothing major-major," Texas coach Vic Schaefer said of Harmon's injury. "It's a toe. But she's being evaluated daily. That's kind of where we are with it. "People are going to press us until Rori is back, which I don't know when she'll be back. Your best press attack is a good point guard. We've got to do better at attacking pressure with pressure." Harmon was the Big 12 freshman of the year last season and helped lead Texas to the Big 12 tournament title -- where she was awarded Most Outstanding Player -- and the NCAA Elite Eight. Harmon is the Longhorns' leading returning scorer this season; she averaged 11.4 points as a freshman and had 180 assists to 80 turnovers with 86 steals. The 5-foot-6 sophomore was No. 10 on ESPN's preseason list of the top 25 players in women's basketball. It also hurt Texas on Friday that another guard, transfer Sonya Morris, had to leave the game in the third quarter with a back injury. "We're just really shorthanded," Schaefer said. "There's not a lot of options at certain spots. When stuff hits the fan, it's how you respond. That defines you. We've got two days to prepare, then we've got to go up to Storrs and play a really good basketball team. I feel confident in my team." https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/35005426/texas-pg-rori-harmon-misses-opener-day-day-foot-injury
  20. Has Faye played? What happened to Sonia?
  21. This is brutal. Not the game you want before UConn.
