  1. We did get a yoga instructor so there's that....
  2. Yeah, I don't see Hurst joining the team for a number of reasons, but I'm still very hopeful for Shaylee. I would think Texas would be an attractive coaching destination for any young coach, Vic has a winning reputation and he has had a number of assistants go on to be head coaches. Somehow I don't think he is striking out on candidates, I think it's more a matter of timing and reshuffling what he has now. We did have an unprecedented number of positions to fill (except when we changed head coaches). The lack of coaches named didn't appear to stop his ability to get good players. The staff directory:
  3. Ha! No they are not. I am very pleased but shocked we're in contention for Shaylee. She is the much bigger get than Gabby and if she comes she has two years left so I would expect some roster attrition from her coming. Other than shooting very poorly from 3 last year (.227) she puts up great numbers. She's a WNBA talent level player at 5'10" averaging 18 ppg and almost 5 assists per game. Holy hells if we get her we are really knocking on the natty door. She would require big minutes however and Rori's not giving up any of hers So I would expect Gonzales in the 2-3 spots and maybe backing up Harmon when she sits for the 10 seconds Vic allows her on the bench. Picking up Gabby would be great too, 5'6" one year rental averaging 2.5 assists per game and shooting .382 from 3. I would really like some sharp shooters on the perimeter next year to free up the beast core we have now down in the paint. I have not heard she has shown any interest in UT but Vic saying he's not done makes me think he is working on the guards now. Kobe leaving made me think how much the transfer portal has changed the lives of the athletes. It creates instability for the coaches for sure but unless you are a coveted talent and in the drivers seat you are at the mercy of the portal each year if you want to play. Don't unpack all yer stuff. Hopefully we pick up another guard/wing but anyway you look at it this is a solid club next year.
  4. Well plus, after Chevalier left and attempted to trash Vic and the program, to have a Tech player turn around and immediately transfer over to the 40 must really chap Gerlich's ass. She probably thought with Ashley's noise they could hurt Vic's recruiting but obviously so much not.
  5. From the tech bio page https://texastech.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/khadija-faye/11469 SOPHOMORE (2021-22): • Made 19 appearances with nine starts • Missed the final 10 games of the season due to injury • Grabbed five offensive rebounds and 10 total rebounds in a win over Weber State (Nov. 16) • Poured in a career-high 22 points on perfect 9-of-9 shooting from the field and 4-for-4 from the line • Erupted for 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 blocks against No. 20 Georgia (Dec. 2) • Grabbed 11 rebounds and had three blocks in a win against No. 9 Texas (Jan. 5) • Scored 11 points with eight rebounds and five steals against All-American Ayoka Lee and the Kansas State Wildcats (Jan. 15) • Had 18 points and 9 rebounds at TCU (Jan. 19). FRESHMAN (2020-21) • Had an outstanding freshman season for the Lady Raiders, appearing in 19 games for the Lady Raiders • Started the final 15 games • Missed the first six games of the season to represent Senegal in the U18 FIBA Afrobasket games in Egypt • Averaged 5.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game • Her 1.1 blocks per game ranked ninth in the Big 12 and second on the team • Ranked third among Big 12 freshmen in rebounding • Finished with four double-digit scoring games, which included one 20-point game • Had six multi-block games • Had one double-double on the year • Led the Lady Raiders in rebounding five times, steals twice and blocks six times • In only the second game of her collegiate career, had 10 points, four rebounds, four blocks and a steal in the win over Incarnate Word (Dec. 29) • Had eight points on 4-of-7 (.571) shooting, seven rebounds, an assist, three blocks and a steal against Oklahoma (Jan. 6) • Helped Tech to its first win over Texas in eight years with six points, four rebounds and a steal against the 20th-ranked Longhorns (Jan. 30) • Turned in the best game of her career to date in the win over Kansas State (2/3), with 20 points,14 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal matched up against All-Big 12 post Ayoka Lee • Against Oklahoma State (Feb. 13), recorded 10 points, eight rebounds, an assist and two blocks • Finished with four points, eight rebounds and two blocks in the overtime win over Kansas (Feb. 20) • Had 10 points and five rebounds at Oklahoma (Mar. 1) HIGH SCHOOL • Faye joined the Lady Raider program from Dakar, Senegal by way of Father Lopez Catholic High School in Daytona, Fla. • Faye played her senior season at Father Lopez Catholic in 2019-20 after having to sit out her junior season after transferring from Florida Prep where she was a standout • As a senior, Faye helped the Green Wave to a 26-3 overall record and a spot in the 3A state quarterfinals • Faye ranked as the No. 13 center in the class of 2020 by ESPN. PERSONAL • Faye was born in Senegal • She is one of five children in her family, and is the first in her family to play collegiate sports • Off the court in high school, she was a member of her school's French Honor Society • Her hobbies include watching movies and hanging out with friends • Faye hopes to one day be a gynecologist. Right now I can't decide who I'm the most excited to watch play next year. If we can get even some half decent shooting from three this next year we should be very good.
  6. Well I hope that means she's coming here. Been near the top of my list for a while now. C'mon Tech, grow up. The fact that they're jacking with her transfer gives me greater hope she's coming to the 40. Whoa.... I didn't notice that until you pointed it out. Not sure about the rumors that she was going to be ready to go this year. That knee doesn't look happy.
  7. Yeah, that's Blair position. Still have her listed as the Director of Bball ops. I know there was discussion of NCAA restructuring of coaches and maybe UT found a way to allow her to report to someone other than Vic to avoid the nepotism rules. That's very interesting.... Wish we would fill out the coaching staff, I hope we have a master plan in play and we aren't just striking out on candidates.
  8. All true but even so with 3 minutes left in that game it was a 2 point contest. With 1:30 left in the game it was a 4 point difference and we had the ball. That was with a freshman point guard and post against freaking Stanford with all their high value recruits in Spokane. We are not that far off and call me a homer but with Morris and Jones I think we win that game.
  9. The 22-23 team so far, very deep and talented. I wish we would pick up Khadija Faye out of Tech but she may be worried about playing time here.
  10. Sonya definitely a better shooter and scorer but didn't get to the line near as much as JAT. Two inches taller than JAT and pulled down significantly more boards with steals and blocks about the same. Sonya with far more assists but way more turnovers as well. Will be hard to match JAT's intensity and defense but I trust Vic to light a fire in her, she sees the floor well and at 5'10" may help cover taller guards like Sundell. Sonya earned All-Big East (UConn) honors and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association named her one of the five finalists for the 2022 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award which recognizes the top shooting guard in in NCAA Division I college women’s basketball. We were pining over Fields but Lauren only shot .329, .284, and .630 averaging 15.4 per. Very solid addition, I am stoked.
  11. Girls beat UNC 14 to 20 but it wasn't that close. Rori gets whacked on the face but seems ok afterwards - any medical staff from UT there?, a little concerning. No one coaching the team during the game, the girls just talk through it. Moore looked great inside with spins and actually dove across a table at one point. Players on the floor etc. - Vic doesn't have to be there for them to go all out. Rori smoking fast and doesn't care what game it is, she just wants to win. Announcer couldn't say Mathru's name but she was hitting outside shots like she do. Holle solid on D and good size to cover all players. Fast paced game, only ten minutes long but intense. Much fun, we looked solid.
  12. Would have liked to have had Buchanan. Wish we would get a few more coaches hired. Seems to be dragging out.
  13. Looks like we play at maybe 2:00 tomorrow on the twitter or USAB.com Holle, Harmon, Matharu and Moore
  14. Not sure why you would wait this long to put your name in the portal except if the team you were playing on had some new additions at your position. You would want to end up at the best possible place for yourself. But these are younger people and it can certainly take a while for anyone to make up their mind. Welcome to the new normal at this time of year. Watching the clock, waiting to see who stays and who goes. In some ways you almost want to be a player's second team. They have made it through the freshman's anger at not getting enough playing time while they develop, and they have to sit a long year if they transfer again.
  15. As per HornFans - Dillon Mitchel and Jordana Codio went to the prom together. Daaamn.... Not sure if true but:
  16. She's still on the official website. They took down Lattimore and Chevalier really quick so that's something. The Taylor Jones signing was great but I was hoping for a few more portal wins by now, we keep striking out. I certainly thought we would have signed Faye already but Taylor may have affected that. Really sorry about Fields, her going to AZ may have helped us keep Kyndall though but we need some wing / guard help badly. Hopefully Shay and Kyndall will both show improvement next year and maybe a healthy Kobe will come out of the gate strong. I'm hoping Vic has a plan C, D, and E but right now we seem to be falling behind in the portal sweepstakes. Not even sure what the targets at guard / wing would be now.
  17. Good for her, they made it to the Sweet 16 this year, pounded OU in Norman. 24 -9 on the year. I wonder why ND? Just glad she is out of the conference, they got themselves a great one.
  18. I understand your point and it's certainly valid but: "Between January 1978, and January 1990, Conradt's Lady Longhorns did not lose a Southwest Conference game, a streak of 183 consecutive conference victories.[7] From 1986 to 1991, Texas was the women's basketball attendance leader, including an NCAA record average of 8,481 for one season.[4]" " Good times. Texas (Southwest Conference) (1982–1996) 1982–83 Texas 30–3 8–0 1st NCAA Elite Eight 1983–84 Texas 32–3 16–0 1st NCAA Elite Eight 1984–85 Texas 28–3 16–0 1st NCAA Sweet Sixteen 1985–86 Texas 34–0 16–0 1st NCAA Champions 1986–87 Texas 31–2 16–0 1st NCAA Final Four 1987–88 Texas 32–3 16–0 1st NCAA Elite Eight 1988–89 Texas 27–5 16–0 1st NCAA Elite Eight 1989–90 Texas 27–5 15–1 T-1st NCAA Elite Eight Absolutely different eras though and Vic just went to two elite eights in a far more competitive field, but I can't say I didn't like it when the only question was would we lose a conference game this year or not. And also F Baylor.
  19. By my understanding we are still waiting to hear from: 1. Lauren Fields 5'9" Guard for 2022 2. Khadija Faye 6'4" Post for 2022 3. Breya Cunningham 6'4" Post for 2023 4. Possibly Fatou Samb 6"4" post for 2022 Fields is the more immediate need and I wonder how the addition of Taylor Jones is affecting the decision of Faye. Cunningham probably not so much but is the bigger long shot. I'll bet less used players on each team are hopeful portal players make their decision before May 1rst so they can portal out themselves if need be and not have to sit a year. Tricky business.
  20. I wonder if she (Codio) is going to redshirt this next year. ACL twice doesn't sound good.
  21. Being an older white guy maybe he tries to balance things out by hiring more relatable assistants for the young ladies and their families. Always has a great staff. I was worried not having all the assistant coaches in place was going to hurt us in the portal and recruiting but so far that has not been the case. Laflin would be a recruiting demon.
