  1. C'mon man. He's not comparing them as similar players. Camel's trying to act like Hepa making the U-18 team means he'll be ready to be a big time player right away. Derka was just pointing out that making the U-18 team doesn't prove anything.
  2. Hahaha how could my opinion that there don't appear to be any instant impact guys be "exposed?" Has UT played some games in the last two weeks I don't know about?
  3. I'm with you on Johnson. His foot speed really is pretty good and he'll have good reach and a good base. I wish there was some camp footage of him, because it would be the easiest way to tell if he has the feet to hold up at LT. Or even better, I'd kill for some practice footage of him going up against Ossai last year. Good point on Shepherd. It really comes down to work ethic and coachability with him. He's got the raw tools. He still got beat bad many times at the Opening, but that was an aspect of his game he improved on.
  4. If she keeps this up, Hamm’s gonna boot her in no time.
  5. Lulz. Well shit, then I take it back. That is crazy. Y’all have some tough OOC opponents.
  6. I haven't been following this all that closely, but is the idea that his draft slot would be roughly $4.8 million but he's saying he's willing to sign for about a million less with the understanding he's allowed to play football this year and the A's like this because they can apply that $1 million in savings to their second round pick to make it more like another first round pick? Also, in this scenario, is Kyler signing his contract with the A's now, so he gets the guaranteed money and signing bonus ASAP while still playing football this year? I guess the real question on this is if any of his money becomes guaranteed immediately or if it's all contingent on him being healthy and able to report for next season. I'm not real clear on how baseball draft contracts work in a situation like this.
  7. Lulz. This is such revisionist bullshit. Most of us, including myself, thought UT would make the tournament last year. Don't act like you were the only one. Hell, I think there's a decent chance we make the tournament this year. People are responding to your over the top rating of UT, not saying there's no chance they make the tournament. If UT, gets ranked as like a 6 seed or something, I'll eat crow about being wrong, but if they squeeze in as a 10 seed and finish near the bottom of the Big 12 like they did last year, you're not proving people wrong. Plenty of us won't be surprised if they make the tournament. Edit: nvm. OP is chugging the kool aid.
  8. It'll be interesting to see how we manage his recruitment and how long/if we try to slow play him.
  9. I haven't looked into Green and Wilkins a ton just because they've never been super realistic targets. Fud is probably more informed on this than I am, and my rating is similar. From UT's perspective (and aggy for that matter), I"d put Wilkins first for sure because he's the best bet to be a great LT. Like Fud said, he has all the measurables and movement skills you want. He weighs about 270 with a frame that will easily let him get to a good playing weight. Next, I'd probably put Green, but like Fud said, his height and weight have been all over. If I knew he had the frame and body to play RT, he'd be for sure second and close to Wilkins. The best thing about Green is he's the least likely to bust, IMO, because he'll very likely make a great G even if RT doesn't work. Johnson would be next for me. He didn't do any camps (which are especially helpful for seeing how quick a Tackle can move his feet), so there's just his hudl to look at. His sophomore film is much more informative than his junior because his junior only includes like 1 real pass pro play. There's more in his sophomore film. Johnson looks like he'd be slow and plodding, but I was continuously impressed/surprised by his foot speed in pass pro and run plays where he gets to the second level. He has deceptively good feet combined with very good strength and size. He rarely loses in the run game. He had great technique for a sophomore and showed the same good technique as a junior. The one area he needs to improve is bursting out of his stance and rolling his hips. Right now, he stands up too straight and loses all his explosion out of his stance in the run game, even though he's still able to win battles at the HS level doing that. He looks to have the mobility and flexibility to learn this skill, as opposed to some other guys who just don't have the hip flexibility to do it. Overall, I think Johnson isn't too far off from Green, but doesn't project to be quite as potentially dominant as Green. I'd put Shepherd in a tier solidly below the other three. He has a great frame and good feet, but his technique is terrible and he'd basically be starting from the ground up. His drop is bad and he stands straight up in run blocking every time. He could develop into a good tackle, but his development is far from a given, so he has the highest bust rate, IMO.
  10. True. I was discussing it as if only UT joined, but if it's a group of 4 teams, then divisions will be completely changed. Either way, UT and OU will probably be considered the big boys in the division and we'll get mixed with lesser schools. It would be great if we could join the Pac and keep USC in division.
  11. I can't figure Gunnell out. It seems like teams have been passing on him rather quickly. tOSU showed interest for a bit there but then seemed to move on quickly. Jimbo didn't exactly make him a huge priority and I still can't tell how hard aggy is recruiting him. His final teams have been schools like Arizona, Arkasnas, and Oklahoma State. Is it that him and his father are self-selecting away from schools like tOSU due to depth chart or other reasons or is it the school passing on him? A guy with his rating and pedigree should have more legit schools recruiting him hard. Is it that the schools just don't think he's that good or is stuff from his camp?
  12. Yeah, I think @billfromlaketravis first pointed this out, but people were way overestimating his recruiting. I'm not sure why people on here ever thought he was a great recruiter, other than wishful thinking because they wanted to see him beat out Jimbo for Gunnell and some other players and want to see Arky beat aggy every year.
  13. Who overstated them besides some random people on shag/surly? I've never heard Chad Morris described as a great recruiter.
  14. The only thing I'd point out about teams we'd play is you have to look at divisions. I have two issues with the Big Ten. One, the weather would suck for a lot of road games. Two, if we join, it would probably be the West division with Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, Purdue, Minnesota, Illinois, Northwestern, and we'd only get to play tOSU, UM, and PSU occasionally. That doesn't excite me much. I guess the third potential downside is OU seems the least likely to come with in the Big Ten. The problem with the Pac to me is time zones, but the current Pac 12 south division includes USC, UCLA, UA, Az St., Colorado, and Utah. I like the prospect of playing those teams every year much better, from a football and road trip standpoint. We wouldn't have to play the less desirable teams in that conference, like Oregon State and Washington State, nearly as often. Regardless, there's definitely not perfect fit at this point and since the Big 12 is the only one whose deal is up in 2022, starting super conferences probably wouldn't happen at that point.
  15. Yeah, it seems unlikely the money would affect him like it would most others, but I think the biggest factor is the team's investment in him. If he were to return to school, have a good year but not quite as good and drop some rounds, he'll probably get less extra chances to perform in the minors. Teams don't like giving up on early round picks and, if I were him, that would be the reason I go now. It's unlikely he could increase his draft position if he returned. Now, maybe like you said, he just loves Texas and comes back, but I doubt that would outweigh his future MLB prospects.
  16. So do we think these guys like in Oklahoma or Florida? Can't tell if it's real beer on the table or not, so can't rule out OK right away.
  17. No doubt, but I don't care nearly as much about Shepherd (and I don't think you do either based on your past comments). Getting Bragg is the huge need spot. We could find a replacement for Shepherd, although probably not quite as good as him. If we were to miss on Bragg, I have no clue who would fill that spot. We need a real C desperately.
  18. I seriously can't understand Jimbo's decision to keep Turner. I mean look at how bad of a state their OL is in. The OL has had a bad outlook for a year or two now with him in charge. I always figured that it was a short-term move because Jimbo thought Turner would help them land the 2019 in-state studs (how's that working out? You got the guy who was always going to aggy and who else? Maybe Shepherd but hard to say Turner is making a big impact in that recruitment.) but now Turner's already gone and fucked up their 2020 class before he's even had a chance to poorly utilize and coach the players on the field in 2018. Very impressive.
  19. Damn! That's way higher than most expected. Good for him. He was always going to leave once he had this kind of year. Glad he'll get a better signing bonus and more commitment from the organization than if he was drafted later. Looks like his slot value is roughly $775,000, not that he needs the money.
  20. Oh it's absolutely gonna be a clusterfuck. It cracks me up the more and more technical they try to get with these tackling rules. The NFL game is unbelievably fast, which makes it hard for the players to react in proper tackling form and also for the ref to make the right call. This rule will basically make it so that a foul can be called on most plays. It won't obviously, but it's application will be completely arbitrary and lead to a bunch of extra replays. This is an unbelievably dumb rule that can never be properly officiated in reality.
  21. So its looking like him and Simpson are the ones that are unlikely to qualify? Tatum seems like he'll get in. Was there another guy who's iffy? Either way, losing 2 4 stars out of your class before the summer even starts is never a good way to go. It would be interesting to see 247 or someone else update class rankings after summer and/or fall enrollments to get a more true sense of who had the best class. And to take it one step further, it would be interesting to see them update class rankings every year based on attrition and transfers to see who actually stayed.
  22. I mean that's a good commitment but it doesn't invalidate anything @golfclap said. You have 10 commits, but none of them are in the Top 200. You have 3 4 stars, but two of them are juuust barely four stars. Your top 3 guys are all OOS and you don't have a single 4 star from FL. Just because UF landed a 4 star recruit, doesn't mean that there aren't long-term trends developing that will be problematic for UF or even that this year's class is any good. Hint: it's not that great right now.
  23. I agree the Big 12 sucks and we should leave in 2022, but I also don't really care that it sucks because I don't think it affects Texas much. If we quit sucking, we'll get plenty of national attention. If we win the Big 12 with 1 loss, we'll be in the playoff and not be dinged because we're in a bad conference. Honestly, if we were good, we could take advantage of the remaining years we have left by having an easy path to the playoff, just like OU did last year, and it could be a short-term advantage. Also, to address the more general discussion, I don't view the conference as good or bad based on the quality of teams nearly as much as how the Big 12 conference itself does influencing perception and planning for the future. They're god awful at it. No championship game, getting caught flat footed when teams leave, they basically fucked the Big 12 out of a playoff spot the year TCU and Baylor tied for the conference title by refusing to pick a winner all in the same season where the conference mantra was "one true champion." The Big 12 conference's lack of foresight, organization, or ability to positively influence national perception is why it sucks, not the quality of football teams. Arguing the merit of football teams in each conference is fairly silly considering they play each other for 2/3 of the year. Overall, the Big 12 has put out a lot of quality football teams, but the one spot where the individual schools hurt the Big 12 is the lack of number of prestigious programs that bring in a lot of money and have a large fan base.
  24. I think the real question is what kind of a dumb fuck do you have to be to in order be one of the hundreds of people who actually did buy tickets?
  25. That's just because Childress isn't tough like Big Billy. If he was more of a man, he would've had his pitcher bean Kody in the head next time up, because you know, that's what real men like Liucci do.
