  1. Lulz. Well first off, you are relying on a ton of development and progression from the guys listed in making your prediction. You literally admit that right here when you say Coleman "will project." Also, DO and Sims wasn't an ass-kicking combo last year, so the only way they'll be next year is with a ton of development and progression. These things are never certain and a lot of players don't progress linearly so you're absolutely reaching for all this stuff and calling it a "lock" is just ridiculous. IF you weren't relying on development, then a team that was a 10 seed that is losing its two best players would not be a "lock" to make the tournament if all the returning players did not make significant progression and development.
  2. Good. I hope they come to Austin so we can beat the shit out of them and send them home crying.
  3. Let's say for sake of argument we get Roach back. That's still no Jones at all, no Bamba, no EDJ or Young (who weren't great but what do we replace them with)? Our team from last year was a 10 seed. How does losing our two best players from last year, even with Jones only playing part of hte season, and returning the rest make us a lock? You're relying on a ton of development and progression from the returning guys, which is possible but definitely not a lock by any means. Not to mention that Bamba was an absolute defensive force. Sims won't be able to replicate that and he gets in foul trouble. We have no rim protector after that. This team will likely take a big step back on defense. Your talk about the recruiting class is dumb for the reasons Derka pointed out. There do not appear to be any instant impact guys, so the rank of the recruiting class has very little to do with how the team will perform next year (although I like the class long-term with 4 guys who will likely see their junior year).
  4. Let's keep the good times rolling and add Will to this, since I'm pretty sure its his list. @OnAComputer I forgot how great those last year in recruiting thread posts were. Seeing Mike Roach CB Angilau to the good guys just warms the heart.
  5. Yuuuup. I bet we'll get some good ole Mackophiles who don't like the amount of OOS guys we take and think we should've taken in-state Player X instead. We should probably also go on shaggy now and find a long post written by TexasStrong12, or (I think I wrote one too) showing data about why recruiting rankings in the aggregate matter and pin that shit somewhere so people don't feel the need to respond. Then againg, who am I kidding, we'll respond anyways.
  6. Right and if his contract was up today, I don't think you'd see many people besides Camel arguing we should keep him but he signed a long, fully guaranteed contract. Paying him and his staff's buyout plus buying out a new coach would be a ridiculous waste of money right now. I wouldn't appreciate my university spending a dime on that and you're not gonna find enough boosters to pay it. Again, this is a football school. We're expending effort and resources on renovating the football stadium, which trumps a basketball coach underperforming.
  7. I have no idea who you could possibly be referring to. I'm just glad I haven't done anything like this lately. I guess, stuff could get pretty ugly, especially in 2015 pre-Malikmas. The other time things get shitty is right at or after NSD when Football board guys come over here and start questioning the value of rankings because they've seen highly rated guys not pan out, or they ask why we didn't recruit player X.
  8. Shaka has had incredibly bad luck with injuries. If Cam stays healthy year one, we are a much better team and probably win a couple games in the tourney. That would change the entire outlook of his tenure to this point. Year 3 he also had horrible injury luck. We needed a shooter/playmaker at guard in the worst way and we had a great one until cancer hit. This season would have also gone drastically differently with him in there. I think he was our best player on the team, even though Bamba has more potential. That's 2 out of 3 years losing our best player for the season. That's incredibly bad luck. Having said that, Shaka has underperformed. He's done a poor job coaching and adapting the offense to the roster, he's mismanaged parts of the roster--be it guys leaving, failing to plug holes, etc. I don't think he deserves to be fired right now, but if we miss the tournament next year, he probably deserves to be fired. I'm not optimistic about Shaka turning this thing around, but firing him after this past year with all the bad luck he's endured would seem unfair. However, what he deserves and what people expect to happen are two different things. I think that distinction is getting blurred a lot in this discussion.
  9. Fud bringing the lulz today. I like it.
  10. It's cached, so you can see it because you opened the link outside of surly, but we can't see it because it's posted on Surly, which is blocked by imgur.
  11. Speaking of, @closetojumping, why'd you drop this sock?
  12. I kind of agree with you the feel of the board has changed. When I first started lurking, and even when I started posting, there was a very stark contrast in mood between the Football and Recruiting boards. They definitely seem to have merged. Part of that was the absolute nightmare that was people talking about Charlie's abillity to coach. The range of opinions (at least until the Kansas game) was much more disparate than the range about Herman to this point. I purposefully avoided the Football board for a good while and a lot of us would discuss the football team on the Recruiting board just to avoid some of the most egregious posters on the Football board. There was also some pretty ridiculous hyperbole about how great of a recruiter Charlie was, how good his classes were, etc. Seeing what Herman did last year and his strategy for this year only make that more clear. That fueled a lot of the fun optimism on that board, plus the way Charlie recruited: the rollercoaster of "oh shit, this could all fall apart, to oh shit! we just signed a top 10 class" 2 years in a row created a fun environment. Herman locking up most of the class by June gives us a lot less to talk about and a lot less excitement, even though I'll take his recruiting 10 times out of 10 over Charlie's in retrospect. Tl;dr I'm with you it used to be more fun, especially during the Charlie days, but I'm not sure there's a way we get back to that. Shit changes and it will change again in the future, like say, if we actually win some football games. I see that as our best bet at moving to a more fun environment.
  13. I mean she's right that UF had more resources and better players than aggy. Other than that, she's just fucking insane. She could not have found a better match than aggy.
  14. Despite not having seen her face after the fall, I can confidently say I still would. The one at 5:07 might have been my favorite. Why the fuck would you back your truck that far in to launch a freaking Jet Ski? lulz.
  15. In a heartbeat. We either get to have a great road venue in Oxford or a very strong Southern Miss teams wins the regional and we get the Super in Austin.
  16. I guess but between having an ESPN reporter with them there all week and doing the whole Hard Knocks style Amazon show, it seems he's created a lot of distraction around his team and the team has certainly underperformed so far. I think Michigan would do well to have less cameras around. There's a reason most well-run NFL franchises avoid Hard Knocks like the plague. Texas has enough non-football distractions. I'd prefer if the program just focused on football and, you know, this little thing called winning--like even just 8 games or more. It's been 5 got dam years since that's happened.
  17. Based on past experiences, will these tickets be hard to come by closer to the time of the event? Not sure how many people I'll be going with, so I'd rather hold off on buying tickets unless they will be scarce later.
  18. See post above, but again. I think you’re overrating the importance of basketball wins and losses at the University of Texas.
