  1. Neither Texasstrong nor anyone else mentioned anything about what Shaka deserves or whether he’s doing a good job. It’s about the reality of the situation. Shaka has a ton of guaranteed money on his contract and CDC is focused on raising funds for the south end zone project. He’s not going to want to fire a coach who’s generally well-liked and isn’t causing problems (outside of Ws and Ls) and then have to go to the same donors he’s currently tapping out for the SEZ and ask for more money for something else. This is part of being a football school. Basketball Ws and Ls take a back seat to other things.
  2. So uh, we're gonna start a gofundme for whichever surly member gets that position, right? By the way, I found the workspace Hamm uses most often.
  3. The idea of Wiley as a second TE is pretty great. He's got a lot of speed and explosiveness for a guy his size. Give him a couple years and he could be a freak.
  4. Got dam you love trolling about Giles. lulz. If we land Faatui, I pledge to never say another negative word about DL recruiting in this thread. Not that anyone needed more incentive to want us to land a 5 Star DT... I posted the Rivals video a while back. I’d never heard of Carter but he jumped out on film so I looked him up and mentioned him. His game tape doesn’t jump out the same way him owning Bragg did at the camp. Ideally, we could’ve kept him warm and then jumped on him if he had a great senior year, but I do like his potential a lot.
  5. It's SoCal bro. Coming off as spoiled and stuck up is pretty much the pinnacle of society.
  6. Haven't most USC recruiting classes been that way? I remember Sark after Dark pulling in a ton of talent late one of the years he was there.
  7. We'll see what he has to say when UT stomps OU's collective meth-rotted teeth in on October 6th.
  8. Yeah. Haskins was an elite recruit who has got to spend two full years in the program training and learning. I don't see any reason why people shouldn't expect him to be good.
  9. That's rich coming from the guy who literally asked me to explain my reasoning on the topic.
  10. I'm not even sure you read my post because most of what you respond to is stuff I never said. There's a lot of stuff in here that's not worth my time to address.
  11. I'm getting some real utgrad97 vibes from this post. lulz. I literally explained why the 2018 DL class is not a sustainable model in a long-ass post right above 12 minutes before you typed this. I didn't call you aggyish. I am aware of the vitriol you hold towards that backwards ass group of rednecks. I was just saying that the smoothing over of the status of the DL recruiting, IMO, and that one phrase sounded kind of aggy to me. I don't know that we're all that far off in our takes on the situation, you were just taking the optimistic route while I ventured on my well-worn path of pessimism.
  12. I would have a really, really hard time seeing Vlade an Peja pass on Doncic, especially with how well Bogdanovic worked out for the Kings this year but who knows what Vlade's thinking. lulz.
  13. I"m not trying to rehash the last debate but this is where conversation is going and I like talking about this stuff. Plus, it beats comparing the school districts of LA and Austin so here goes. I agree and there is still time, but it goes back to sustainability. Last year we had Coburn pretty much in the bag, the U notwithstanding. We got lucky with Ossai due to a coaching change, which probably won't help us this year, and while there are sometimes late risers on the line, they're usually project takes who fill out your last spot. It's rare to have a guy the quality of Ojomo just pop up. Williams and Carson were project takes already. For the record, I like Williams but he has a higher bust potential than other guys who are rated higher. I'll put it this way, a late riser should have the Williams role in the class, but we also nabbed a late riser and Carson. We took three late guys/project types last year. I like 2 of them a lot but I doubt we could get three guys of their quality late most years. If that doesn't happen, we might start settling for some JAGs and then you start to have roster issues.
  14. That might have been worded poorly. I meant that contributing early wasn't something I was looking for at all, as in I didn't knock any of them for not being able to contribute immediately. I could probably live with 4 straight years of the 2018 class, as long as we mix in a 5 star/truly elite guy every couple years. That's what I was hoping for with the 2019 class but so far, no dice, and I'm not sure if we're even heading for the 2018 level class at this point. Also, the 2017 class and what's left of the 2016 class puts a higher onus on these two classes to be really good than they would otherwise need to be.
  15. I don't think you and I have the same definition of great but that's fine and I'm not saying that because I"m looking for day one contributors. I like our 2018 class but I was hoping to do better this year. So far, that's not looking likely. My biggest problem with the 2018 class in critiquing the staff was the unsustainability of how it came about. Regardless, there's still time, and I hope the staff can flip it around. Most of them are relentless workers and some of our better recruiters locking up there guys early will help, I"d just rather avoid scrambling to fix the DL class every year.
  16. I guess. "Bad news is good news" sounds very aggy to me and being happy that we're not sitting on our hands seems like an unbelievably low bar for expectations at a place like UT, or honestly any fucking school. I like some of the guys we've offered. The Zach Williams eval was money. I might like him better than Nana, although I'd rather just have both and let them fight it out for the next four years. My biggest problem though, is most of the backup offers I like seem to be the longest shots. The in-state guys and some of the lower-rated guys, like the NJ kid, seem to be the ones we have the best shot at (read: settle for), and I'm not a huge fan of any of them. I agree with you there's still time to get a good DL class and the sky isn't falling, but things aren't trending in a good direction right now. There needs to be a reversal, and Herman's got to be the one that causes it.
  17. I get that, but the staff showed terrible feel for rotating RBs all year. Warren did well in the first couple drives against Iowa State and then barely got any carries after that. They would get a hot hand, but instead of feeding it, they'd just seemingly randomly rotate RBs. We have a better RB room this year, so that will help but I see no reason why the underlying problem won't still be there. Also, Beck's strict belief in never sticking with plays that are working doesn't help this issue.
  18. I'm not tracking with you at all here, man. First, it's not good that DL recruiting has moved on, because all that means is we missed on all our top targets (I don't really count Sweat as a top target). Second, 3 out of the 4 guys you say you liked, we don't have much of a shot at. I like a couple of our backup offers, like the AZ kid and the one that went to Beck's school, but I have no clue if we have any chance at them at all. That NJ DL screams JAG, I'm not a big fan of the Z'Core kid, and I'd much rather be offering Taurean Carter after he has a huge senior year. Right now, it's a pretty big reach for him to be worth a UT offer, although I do like his potential. All I see is Giles striking out big time and settling to for subpar talent, so far. Hopefully some big time DL recruits emerge during their senior year, otherwise this DL class is going to be verrrry meh. I mean I guess we can call missing on all/most of the elite targets early instead of late a silver lining. I won't rehash it but last year's DL class wasn't great. It was fine (and also not a sustainable way to build a class every year). I'd rather not stack a 2017 DL class that has one real contributor with 2 straight just decent classes. At some point, we need to bring in some elite talent on the DL, like we are just about everywhere else, instead of reverting to backups and relying on late diamonds in the rough that may not pop up every year.
  19. 1. It does seem a little low. 2. They're not highlighting how many times he dropped into pass pro. They're highlighting that he only gave up pressure 7 times out of 290 pass pro plays. Eh. I'm not nearly as confident in that. I still expect to see an obnoxious amount of Kyle Porter.
  20. I was very surprised and disappointed that the staff didn't adapt their scheme to the roster last year. I remember almost being in shock watching Garrett Gray trot onto the field drive after drive against Maryland only to watch him single-handedly kill half our drives. On the bright side, it looks like we now have the personnel to fit the staff's desired scheme so that issue will hopefully go away. Although I consider the horrible rotations at WR and RB to be a whole different issue, and I'm not really sure why we should expect those to get fixed, other than blind hope that comes with the offseason.
  21. There's no realistic chance those games are all of the 48-7 variety, however about 2-3 of them could easily happen, which is bad enough for aggy.
  22. Certainly an interesting question, as there's got to be a height at which it becomes a detriment to an OL. Based on a quick google, it looks like there are currenlty 3 active OL at 6'9 and 11 active at 6'8 but there doesnt seem to be anyone taller than that. https://herosports.com/nfl/tallest-shortest-players-nfl-byby Jonathon Ogden was 6'9 and obviously had a great career. However, there didn't seem to be much above 6'9. I'm sure there has been at some point in the league's history but it's definitely rare. If Fatheree really is already 6'8 at 15 or 16, he could easily get to 6'10 or taller, which could pose a problem for him. Should be interesting to watch and see how he develops.
