Leaving next week for 2 weeks. Rome/positano/capri/Bellagio/zurich
have plenty of notes on where to eat etc. But my question, specifically for Rome, we will be walking all over the place, but if tired of walking, or going somewhere in the evening a little nicer, what is the best way to get a ride. Taxi? uber? Is there an app that works in rome well? TIA.
There's a cheap bus that's ride on, get off, ride on. We did it for the sites and it was great.

Sweden for the bikini team.

Does it seem to anyone else that Ferrari enters the season with a strong car but their upgrades basically suck?

I'll add that a stormy day on the North Sea is not a pleasant cruising day.
Let me dig through my photos.
Good day. This was about 11 PM which was cool.
Bad day. The 3000' overlook.
Some days it was both.

Using the search feature, I saw a couple of posts here/there on road trips through Norway, but I didn't see anything about Norwegian cruises in and about the Fjords.
Mrs. Ramjet's family background has a good bit of Norwegian in the lineage, so an expedition has been in the plans for some time now. We're getting serious about something in the summer of 2025, but there are a bunch of options to consider. Cruise line, ship size, whether the ship can get into the scenic areas, costs of shore excursions, number of stops, etc. I'm seeing that while some of the smaller ships do get you "more stops", those stops are often passenger/cargo stops for 15 minutes at 4:00am as the drop off transit/cargo and move on quickly. I'm not sure if that's something that will constantly interrupt sleep at 4 in the morning or if it's so quiet you'll never know it.
Anyway - does anyone have any experience or recommendations they'd like to share about Norwegian cruises in July?
There are the obvious "big boys" of Holland America, Norwegian Cruise Lines, and Royal Caribbean, but we're not all that interested in the "big Cruise ship" experience and overhead. There seem to be several smaller lines that keep coming up - Hurtigruten and Havila being two of the more popular/well-reviewed ones.
Our goals are as much "oh my God" scenery/photo opportunities as possible, interactions with smaller villages/sites, and things perhaps off the tourist-trap paths. We're not that interested in big cities or overly-touristy places.
Lots of constraints, I get it ... but any help/advice/things to look for or avoid would be greatly appreciated.
We did a cruise in Norway last August. On a nice day it is spectaular. On a not so nice day it is cold, rainy and the cloud ceiling seems to be about 10 feet above your head. I did it once and enjoyed it but won't go back again. There's nothing like going up to that viewpoint that is at 3000' above the fjord and you can't see 10' in front of your face.

Lately, we haven't needed rain for that although rain definitely makes it more enjoyable to watch.

You should go live in the places you are considering retiring to before you do retire. I used to live in St Thomas and had so many people tell me how jealous they are I lived in paradise.
It is a 3rd world country and I love it with every piece of my blackened heart and I hope to retire there myself but had I not gone there and lived there in my 30s I guarantee I wouldn't know the trap I was walking into and so its important to calibrate while you still are vibrant mobile and can.
Yeah. We’ve spent a LOT of time on St. John and in the BVI and came to realize it’s not for us as a place to live. First, the hobby there is heavy drinking by pretty much everyone that lives there. It’s also not an easy place to travel from to many of the other places we enjoy. I love those islands but wouldn’t consider living there. We also know a lot of people who went through Irma and I don’t desire that at all. Ian when we lived in Naples was enough of that for me.

Does anyone have any experience with actually living in Ann Arbor? I've been there a few times and it looks great but I'm guessing culturally and socially, it's very UM centric...?
I'd take hell over that fucking town.

Before you move someplace to retire that you saw in a movie or some article said was a great place, try it before you buy it.
If youve never lived in a desert like Tucson, go there and get a short term rental for a couple months. Go to Spain and rent for a few months and travel around. Talk to expats living it.
I’ve drug my wife all over the country for my job for 40 years. She’s getting to choose the next place which is to be close to granddaughters in Oklahoma. As much time as we’ve spent there we’re looking at a variety of options to try. Partly for livin’partly to see how much our kids will use us as a babysitting service. Before you move someplace to retire that you saw in a movie or some article said was a great place, try it before you buy it.

Portugal also has me intrigued but the Spanish laws for moving there are friendly and my wife is fluent. You give good advice.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.
One of the top restaurants in the world is in Modena. It was #1 for a while. There's a sister restaurant that is less expensive, easier to get into and apparently just as delicious.

Man, it’s a bit off-putting to see all these technicals running around with machine guns and heavily armed military/police.
First time in Mexico? It's common there.

I saw him a coupler of times at the World Series of Golf on the practice range at Firestone. When he was on the range I'd go over and he would entertain people with golf tricks and jokes. He seemed like a genuinely good human being.

We're pretty much dead set on Spain at this point. My daughter has no intention of having kids and my son is 30 and still not attached. It's Seville or Malaga and I think Malaga will be the place. A decent enough airport and despite the location it's one of the more cost effective places to live in a country that is loaded with cost effective places to live. We are on a 5 year plan to make the move.

Our preference is to eat at the only restaurant in the smallest town we can find. You know the food is good because if not, the locals will shun it. It's inexpensive, the table wine is like 8 euro a bottle, it's delicious and they don't care if you sit at the table for 3 plus hours. In fact, they usually encourage it.

Wow that sucks so bad for George. He had a hell of a drive.
As far as the race, Spa never fails to deliver. Absolutely my favorite track on the circuit.
If he wasn't such a pmpous, whiny assed bitch I'd agree with you. But he is, so no.

Yeah I used to be an 'A' level beach volleyball player 'back in the day' at Aussie's, and I got to play with and against some 'Open' level guys who played at times on the AVP tour, and two who later became regulars on the tour (one of whom is considered by some to be the greatest all-around beach volleyball player ever). Just like every story I've ever heard about the competitiveness of pro athletes, they hated losing far more than they liked winning. Nice guys off the court. Animals on the court. Completely different people. One time I played an Open tourney with the best guy in Texas at the time. He had played extensively on 2 or 3 different pro tours, including the AVP. He was and probably still is incredible, but at just 6' 1", he had a hard time hanging on for long on the AVP and always had to go through the Qualifiers. But in Texas, he and his regular partner rarely lost. I've never been in such a pressure cooker. He expected me to be able to do everything he could do, which nobody in Texas outside of Indoor VB Olympian Riley Salmon could do. Off the court later, he apologized. For these guys, the game is everything.
Played with some baseball players who went pro later. Raced against and even beat some pros on karts out at Driveway Austin, too. Same thing. /csbthatmightbesomewhatrelatedtothetopic
A guy named Karch, eh?

Yeah that car really did not want to turn in at all. I wonder where RBR lost the plot on their development. I saw something the other day that said Newey left RBR because of a decision that had been taken re: the direction of the car. I wonder if that's true, and if so, what that decision was.
They spoke earlier about how the car had massive understeer this weekend which Max hates.

If you do the cruise follow the recommendation of the cruise company and fly in the day before.
