  1. Son, and I'm just going to tell you this one time. You want to keep posting on Surly, stay off the drugs.
  2. The other thing we’ll see is open bribery and extortion. “Hey judge, you ruled against us. Thats a shame” One day later “whoops your son was arrested for…”
  3. trump is barzini. It was putin, china and saudi arabia along
  4. Yeah, the free market is a bitch for poor, old, uneducated, and isolated people. Its very inefficient to deliver water, electricity, roads, schools, hospitals, and mail to rural areas. The democrats, even when they were a racist party, literally paved the way for communities across the country to exist. That democrats were the only thing standing in the way of elimination of these services must be a giant surprise to people obsessed with trans and immigrants.
  5. The Elon apologists say it was about free speech but knew that it was about taking control over social media sites that supported independent journalism and community organizing. We knew that they knew and then pretended that they didnt know and still argued it was about free speech. They knew that we knew that they know. And now everyone knows it was all bullshit and now 98% of social media is controlled by autocrats and oligarchs who are giddy with power and a world without the appearance of accountability. It’s kind of like the wizard and vampire movies. Theres always been evil wizards and vampires but now we’re in the movie where the evil faction that wants to rule over humans is winning.
  6. And piss and shit on the lower deck. Of course, upgrading vandalism to a terroristic act might deter a few.
  7. Yeah i casually follow both the Texans and Cowboys threads. I could step in day 1 as a Madden experienced GM and improve the Cowboys situation. The Texans I’d be sundowning in meetings and be the guy IT has to tell to plug the laptop to power.
  8. Mental illness was a theme in the movie. Kubrick made a point of visually and symbolically conveying isolation and the effect it had on characters. The movie explored supernatural and tangible elements more than the source material, much to Stephen Kings dismay. You could argue mental illness is a red herring and its really a ghost story. Really Kubrick dialed up visual elements because he wasnt gonna go surreal showing whats happening in Jacks head all the time. And since i read the book more recently than watch the movie, i may be spouting some bookfag nonsense. But “shining” is confused with psychotic or maybe schizophrenic episodes. Dr Sleep i think even confirmed Jack suppressed episodes of shining with alcohol. Bottom line, shining (communicating with the dead) may or may not be related to mental illness. But the movie still explores themes of mental illness even if it’s just for show before showing the haunted elements.
  9. I think what we’ve learned is that hackers are largely rightwing, mercenary, nihilistic, and/or libertarian. Do we finally have a antifa, pro-statist hackers roaming around? They want to restore order and stand up for the seniors getting their post offices closed.
  10. Just to cover my bases. Im better at math. Two GOT beats one Billy Madison.
  11. The US is now at best a neutral vulture at this point with our leaders waiting for kickbacks after Russia kills Ukraine. We’re the baddies. US policy is now performative.
  12. I think the book was more about the mental illness with Jacks character. And the film also dives into how isolation can lead to madness. Neither was about possession, though the movie went more supernatural I think.
  13. you misspelled Mike Alstott
  14. It is about corruption. According to FOX voters, Biden had the most corrupt administration ever, after Clinton and Obama. Among the less braindead, we have bothsiders who believe both sides are corrupt and that money rules politics, which it does. Nevermind that democrats are the only party that wants to do something about it.
  15. Josh Lucas had an interview where he was out of the loop on the direction Bale took for the role and thought he was untalented and stiff. He just didnt get the memo that Bale was playing an especially hollow person. It wasnt until the screening until he got it. Lucas and the other talented actors were somewhat charismatic and all narcissistic, 80’s bad boys. Bale was playing a sociopath who attempted to be them but unable to pull it off fully. The director believed that sociopaths were naturally unfunny, though they could fake it for a short while by mimicking when necessary.
  16. This scene was like the average conversation at a Surly Happy Hour.
