  1. Props to Chuck Schumer for being an actual real MMTer. The way MMT deals with inflation is raising taxes to pull money out of the economy.
  2. I agree. The black vote will still fall in line. It is a NPR poll though. It’s not Rasmussen. The dividing line between people with children and not is striking. Make of that what you will.
  3. Please please keep fighting this bill guys. You should totally fight for the right to discuss sexual orientation with kindergartners.
  4. Really? Y’all are so dense. Is this extreme enough? Texas has benefited massively from extreme left policies like this. https://www.sfchronicle.com/projects/2022/san-francisco-sros/ How about the California DA’s decarceration policy? Wrecking Sf and LA. People have to put signs in their cars that there’s nothing to steal, please don’t break my windows. Also, a notable extreme left policy is acting like border security is not a concern. Look at Hispanics switching to Republican Party. Y’all have your head in the sand if you think there’s no “extreme left” policies in play around the country.
  5. Too bad. I’m curious what you think we should be paying. Same bracket, same profession (different specialty), same family unit with 4 kids.
  6. I know plenty of nurses that own homes. Well yeah duh. We pay a lot of tax in the top bracket. Seems you think we should pay more. What should our rate be at the top? Also, I don’t like increased spending because the govt are terrible stewards of capital, not because it’s not spent on me.
  7. From now on I’m calling it the Ministry of Truth. These are the serious things these “serious” people are working on. I’m generally against money printer go brrrr, but given the choice I would prefer tax cuts over increased spending. The number is fairly small in the grand scheme or our debt and liabilities. It’s just another step on our way to the end. Next time it’ll be it’s just $2T for whatever. I’m more annoyed that no reforms will happen and we’ll restart the same shit and people will lament the skyrockets costs of education.
  8. Lol. I did it to try out the UX. Lightning does make online micropayments basically frictionless despite the assertions of CA. The bigger picture idea is to move away from an ad based model for content to one that’s pay as you go. Podcasting 2.0 is a way to apply that to listening to podcasts. There’s apps where you can easily link a Lightning wallet and you stream sats, or micropayments, every minute that you’re listening. You can set it to any amount. Then podcasts can be ad free and not beholden to outside interests. It’s a good ways from being mainstream, but maybe something to look for in the future. Probably something more for the crypto thread discussion but since you asked.
  9. Well, literally anything benefits the needy more than a massive bank bailout. At any rate, yes it’s inflationary. That’s fine. It’s to be expected. With an economy contracting and inflation still at 40 year high, we will print more money somehow. This is a great back door way to do helicopter money. Which will be part of a feedback loop.
  10. That’s not how it works. I used Muun wallet today to purchase a blog post. The web page had link/QR code for an invoice. I pasted the invoice into my wallet and hit send. That’s it. It went through in seconds and I just hit refresh on the page and the blog was open. To load the Muun wallet initially I created an invoice for the amount I wanted in the Muun wallet. I then pasted that invoice into my Cashapp and sent it. In either case, you can’t just vacuum up funds from another account with invoices. The other side must input them and verify them. That’s just fake news.
  11. They’re losing control. This is the point in the big debt cycle that we’ve reached. Elevated inflation in the face of economic slowing. 10 times out of 10 governments are going to print more money rather than impose immediate economic harm on their population. Student loan forgiveness is one of the steps in our progression. No CR, just discussing monetary effects. It’s basically “helicopter money” or if you like crypto terminology, it’s an “airdrop”. It’ll go into the positive feedback loop and we’ll escalate from there down the line, with eventual loss of faith in the Fed and our govt.
  12. Lightning is built on bitcoin. Not a scam. How is it trust based if I’m using a self-custody Lightning wallet like Muun? I understand there are trade offs but it is still a trust minimized, open network.
  13. It’s not the gotcha that I think you’re going for. I don’t like massive bailouts of anyone. Especially with no meaningful reforms or punishments like the GFC. Creates moral hazard. Same thing will happen with un reformed student loan system. One notable distinction is that Tarp was passed by the legislature. Biden is looking to go by executive fiat.
  14. Lightning ??? It sounds to me like they could benefit from an open monetary network, not controlled and manipulated by their former colonial masters. It’s opt in, so we’ll see if they feels it benefits them. What will be interesting to see are the potential dominos to follow. If their partners in this monetary union see them not getting even more rekt than they were previously, I see others following. The whole union has about 150M people. Then you have the Panama move. It seems pretty clear that this movement will initially be focused in Central America and Africa.
  15. Some fun old tweets from our new head of the Ministry of Truth. This is going to go so well.
  16. Not declaring myself anywhere close to an expert on Central Africa, but some striking stats from that article. Out of the bottom 10 poorest countries in Africa, half are in this CFA zone. 10 of the 15 nations in the CFA zone are in the “least developed” in the world category according to the UN. But they should definitely keep doing what they’re doing, including operating under a monetary regime that appears to be built specifically to exploit them. Seems like that system is the cynical exploitation. Or you could call it something worse if you throw in the colonial nature of it all.
  17. I’m going to need a source citation or this is disinformation. I need a ruling @Longhorn_Fan68 Is there somewhere in official White House communications to which you can refer me for resolution, clarity, and relief? I feel under assault.
  18. This isn’t a hard chart to read what happens next. You could show it to an elementary school kid and ask them to spot the pattern. You can’t raise rates to historic levels at our current levels of debt. You can’t taper a ponzi as they say. Yeah. He’s making a prediction. Unless economic activity has picked up since Q1 then we’ll be there. Current Atl Fed GDP now estimate for Q2 is 1.9%
  19. Ok. Didn’t know that. I’m not an Elon fanboi, have never owned Tesla stock sadly. 😭
  20. He’s building a new Cape Canaveral and also turning out more EVs than anyone on the planet, but the federal government is gonna go after him hard? Cmon. Theyll attempt to neuter Twitter via regulation, that’s about it.
  21. Correct Elon is not afraid of the SEC. I really think he knows that Tesla and SpaceX are systemically important tech institutions. The govt/DoD need them to keep innovating and producing. He’s untouchable in a sense. The Twitter purchase is going to test that though.
