my tin foil hat theory is thus. Putin/Russia had previously come out against Bitcoin and mining. China has banned Bitcoin because they think it will hurt global adoption of their CBDC. A week or so after Putin and Xi meet, Russia comes out with partial embrace of Bitcoin.
Bitcoin and cryptocurrency is the one field of tech innovation that China has completely abandoned. They ceded the battlefield to the West. In this political climate, what better way to get people in the US to be more aggressively against Bitcoin than to have Russia signal that it’s a positive? That way you try to squash one big advantage your adversary has. Now the establishment Bitcoin columns will all be Russia Russia Russia.
The stakes are getting higher.
