  1. You need to read Ray Dalio’s Principles for dealing with the Changing World Order. Our country is dealing with all kinds of changes that are cyclical and predictable, many economic. They go way beyond individualism vs collectivism. That’s just a symptom.
  2. Agreed. Whether you believe or not, a large portion of the population having faith in something bigger after life here gives them more purpose. I guarantee it gives them more happiness.
  3. This is part too. Politics as a religion promises you nothing. Maybe just misery. A religion itself like Christianity promises eternal salvation.
  4. Social media and iPhones. That’s 90% of it. People are distracted by their phones, aren’t taking in and enjoying life in front of them. Social media on their phones either gets them upset or has them thinking they’re missing out because some thots posted pics from their Cabo trip or whatever. Then you throw in the outrage thrown at you constantly to upset you and keep your attention and you get a distracted, angry, envious population. If you’re those three things how can you be present in day to day life and happy?
  5. So at this point nothing is happening for a few weeks right? No way Putin does anything during Xi’s Olympics.
  6. I don’t have time to verify if this site is legit. It looks like it. Supposedly it’s to keep fertilizers prices down domestically to try to address inflation. They typically export half their production, mostly to Europe evidently. https://agfax.com/2022/01/28/fertilizer-russia-ukraine-conflict-could-cause-supply-price-issues-dtn/
  7. So what would de-escalate things from our side? Specific assurances that Ukraine is not joining NATO? It just seems so counterproductive for our country to get involved in conflict direct or indirect with Russia in Eastern Europe. We’ve avoided it multiple times before. What is different this time?
  8. A good research piece on why bitcoin should be considered separate from the rest of the crypto ecosystem and why it’s unlikely to be overtaken.
  9. The easiest thing in the world is to plant some Fed with a flag and play it as look at all these racists like Trudeau did. Who wears a mask at an anti mandate rally? Come on. What’s the angle here if it’s real? Why are white supremacists and nazis so against vaccine mandates that they want to rep themselves at a protest?
  10. I’d love for trump to go away. None of those things he says are going to happen.
  11. Yep. From the comments. From the poll Less than half of the public (43%) supports requiring people to show proof of vaccination in order to work in an office or other setting where they are around other people. Support for this approach has declined steadily since September (53%), including 46% last month. Proposals like yours are losing support by the day. I’m not sure what you’re talking about. Maybe you quoted the wrong post. I’ve never said the election was stolen. I love the amount of influence y’all attribute to one poster. I politicize the virus. Lol ok. As for vaccines and masks I am against blanket mandates or passports. If you want to say that’s diluting the expectation that everyone is vaxxed and masked then I guess that’s true. I’d suggest that expectation is unrealistic and unnecessary.
  12. interesting breakdown on some of these questions.
  13. Another one, PW. UK NHS scraps mandate for health care workers.
  14. You’re misreading. Holding debt typically means you’re the lender. You hold the bonds. Issuing debt means you’re the borrower. Sorry you’re so stupid.
  15. This all has very little to do with Trump. He didn’t help, but the real shift started with the financial crisis and the onset of QE and big fiscal stimulus. If you don’t think that our money printing when so much of the world holds our debt could cause geopolitical tension then I don’t know what to tell you. Again, this is mostly a monetary policy driven phenomenon. If you’re holding assets/debt denominated in dollars and watching us print massive amounts of money then you know you’re vulnerable. As far as the politics, there are progressives including posters on this board that are into bitcoin and crypto. One of the best features of bitcoin is that it is by its design apolitical. Who here is touting military spending? Do you know how wars are typically funded? Printing of fiat currency.
  16. Again a lack of knowledge of monetary history. Yes the whole point of fiat currencies is government control but fiat currencies trend to zero. How has the American experiment of going to fiat worked for the stable store of value Since 1971? We live in interesting times. Every currency In the world is pegged to us essentially but we are straight fiat. Backed by nothing and can print whatever we want. This is an underlying source of a ton of the tension around the world.
  17. I never said USD would go poof. The British pound still exists. “top dog status” sounds like you don’t really have a strong grasp of monetary history, so that explains a lot. It’s a glaring blind spot for you in your whole ledge thesis. To not understand how money plays a part in societies rising and falling is a problem. So what’s a better hedge against currency collapse? Gold? I’ve listed the ways bitcoin is superior. Also it’s a cryptographically protected data storage medium. People throw around ponzi when it doesn’t even makes sure. Bitcoin’s risk of going to zero is almost zero. Countries, large corporations, and public pensions are buyers. Insurance companies. These are entities with long time horizons. I’m sure you’re smarter than all of them though.
  18. I’m kind of surprised that given your life on the ledge you don’t see the obvious weakness of the USD. It won’t take the United States to fail, the USD doesn’t have to go poof. But it’s an ahistorical take to say that the USD’s status as reserve currency is a given for the foreseeable future. I think the USD losing it’s reserve status in the next 20 years is actually pretty likely. I’m not rooting for it, just accepting it and preparing for it.
