The difference is Oregon's admin and their above average fan base care about maintaining a good program. You can't say the same about most of those other programs. None of them, the closest being Colorado, ever had the national following of Oregon. Colorado's admin doesn't care about its football program. They also only won for roughly decade. Oregon has been building a competitive program since the 1990s. It's close to 30 years now. How many coaches has Oregon cycled through and still remained a consistent winner? This isn't a situation where the coach made them good. Knight has set them up for long passed when he's gone. Autzen Stadium is one of the great environments in all of college football. Oklahoma is able to remain competitive with somewhat similar recruiting territory. Ohio State needs to go OOS to win on a national scale (decent in-state but no enough). This isn't Nebraska, either. Kids want to play at UO. They have a much larger national following than fans of other programs want to admit. Their TV numbers will go way up once they get to play other large fan bases (B1G) every week. With that said, I get your points. But the B1G still needs two more helmet schools in that time zone.

Yeah, no. Washington and Oregon are much better than the Baylors and TCUs of the world and you know that. You don't want them in the B1G because, as you've already stated weeks ago, you don't want the competition. Oregon is stealing our recruits! Baylor and TCU have no fans and recruit overlooked kids with testing numbers. They also bring no new territory. There is no comparison with Oregon and Washington. Washington and Oregon would both rank in the top half of the B1G in revenue generated and competitiveness. They aren't tOSU, Michigan, Penn State or USC but there's only a handful of teams that can hang with that group. Both programs easily rank as two of the top 25 most desirable programs in the country. If you take B1GN into consideration, Oregon and Washington will bring plenty of money to the B1G. Washington, in reality, with the B1GN revenue, would pay for itself. A lot of the numbers thrown around in the media are nothing more than public negotiation IMO. I imagine the B1G will make the new teams take a pay cut for the first contract. B1G has the leverage to do that right now. If they take both Stanford and Cal, they're going to be losing revenue and will make Oregon and Washington assist in paying for it. In order to have a quality late night game every week, the B1G needs more options out west. The B1G, considering the lack of quality in the lower half of the league, still needs more helmet schools with speed. The lack of speed in the conference makes it a complete joke. Ohio State is the only program that remains competitive in the College Football Playoff. Oregon, along with USC, brings speed and Washington is a solid program. UCLA has the potential to bring speed, if they get the program turned around.

Nebraska vs Nawfwestern - 11:30am - FOX (9:30 Pacific)

Do I need to post you the records since 1985? Are you one of those in denial? You should just be able to look at many of the recruits throughout the last half of the 80s and most of the 90s as well as the past 12 years or so. TEN losing season since 1986 and a whole bunch of other seasons barely over .500-.600. Slow ass players all over the field. The only success was about a decade under Mack, when ATM/SWC was coming off probation. http://www.winsipedia.com/texas -

If you think Alabama, tOSU and the rest of the Bluebloods set up their payment system way back in the day without admin support to network with their BMDs, you're naïve as hell. There are no enforceable laws against it. You can't prevent someone from getting paid for their work. And the NCAA is finished. Texas and a few others, I don't need an update to know this, are fighting tooth and nail to keep the status quo. It's been that way since the 80s. I know because I had family in that admin and grew up around it. -

For 40 years now, all I've ever heard from Texas fans is that our only issue is coaching. We're a recruiting juggernaut! Yet, there's so much legit evidence that our recruiting has sucked for much of that period. And it's on the administration for not giving the coaches what they need to recruit at a high level. Even now, NIL should be handled by the admin and the BMDs. Casey Thompson and Marcus Washington are just another in a long line of recruiting suckage on the 40. And it was obvious when both were in high school. -
The active Power 5 teams Texas has faced the most out of conference in the history of the program: 1. Oklahoma: 85 games 2. LSU: 18 games 3(t). Vanderbilt: 12 games 3(t). Notre Dame: 12 games 5(t). Alabama: 9 games 5(t). North Carolina: 9 games 7. Ole Miss: 8 games 8. Auburn: 8 games 9(t). USC: 7 games 9(t). UCLA: 7 games 9(t). Cal: 7 games - Six of the top 8 most played OOC games will be in the SEC plus conference mates A&M and Arkansas. - #5 North Carolina could be a future SEC member. - We've also played Georgia 5 times and MSU 4 times. - Kind of surprising we've only played Tennessee 3 times. I was told Steve Patterson was hired because he was willing to get rid of people in the AD and I believe at least a few of them are still on the 40... BTW, I noticed there was another firing for good ol' Steve. He couldn't cut it as the CEO of the mighty Arizona Coyotes. https://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/john_canzano/2018/07/canzano_ex-blazers_ex-texas_ex.html

You can call it whatever you want to call it; they haven't been getting anywhere near equal revenue. B1G just renames things to fit their narrative.

Perhaps, but I think there may have been some biased reporting on the value of Washington/Oregon in that report last month. There's over 4 million in the Seattle metro alone and over 7 million in the state of Washington. Oregon isn't as big a market, but still much larger than the average Power 5 program. How much is the increase per B1G subscriber? If it's $1, that's $84,000,000 per year for the state of Washington; or $48,000,000 per year for the Seattle metro. Is it $0.50 per subscriber? Still a lot of money. And that's just for the B1GN and doesn't include Tier 1 or Tier 2 rights. Add in the fact that the B1G will need to increase conference games played or add really competitive helmet schools (and maybe both) in order to make sure the 3 broadcasters have plenty of valued inventory on a weekly basis. Washington/Oregon/Notre Dame/USC vs. tOSU/Penn State/Michigan/Wisconsin/Iowa/Michigan St starts to make a lot more sense for the money being paid by each of the three broadcasters. Sometimes more inventory is better. It's not only better for the B1GN but it adds more competitive Tier 1/Tier 2 games that are increasingly valuable to the networks and that's why their all 3 willing to pay the B1G such huge sums of money. It's just a matter of time IMO. They may have to take somewhat of a hit, but I don't think it will be anywhere as large as Rutgers/Maryland.

I'm sure he was just frustrated we weren't landing any top talent at the position and he's right on that. Many of our recruits at that position never had a chance. Cain at least had some potential. You would still like to land some top talent along with someone like Cain.
-
Only the first part of the post was directed at you. I have nothing against your post at all, and agree with some of it, but Cain's success or failure won't have anything to do with athleticism. He has enough athleticism and speed at this level. I just didn't see the need to make two posts instead of one. I probably shouldn't have quoted you. It certainly wasn't to disagree with you all that much. It just gets old, how bad the evaluations are in this profession and all the fans fall for it over and over again.
-
I'm not saying he's going to do anything. UT boards think he sucks as a prospect. They also thin he's slow. Neither is true, regardless of what he does or doesn't do on the field. There's some really bad evaluations these days. Fans bite way too hard for what the online journalists have to say and don't do their own homework. Many of our commits at this position over the years are much worse than him, yet, we blame the coaches for development when they don't hit. It's not development, it's recruiting and evaluation.

Pittman could do that because Vince was a massive run threat and had one of the best ball fakes of all time. Pittman is also very much like Whittington, with good agility and just an all around competitor. Cain ran a 4.71 electronic-timed 40 as a sophomore at 6-2, with arms that hang down to his knees. Most skill position players get faster, if they show speed that young. He showed decent agility on tape and has a massive catch radius. His long arms help keep defenders from jamming. I remember saying he's not great but he's one of the better recruits we've landed at that position in a while. His 4.71 as a sophomore is faster than most of our receivers (before Sark) while they were in college. And they didn't have Cain's length or ball skills. Too many of our recruits over the past 10-15 years, even the 4-stars, had no chance at this level. Online websites have fans fooled. Cain was chastised on the internet because of his less than desirable ranking and the fact a few UT "journalists" thought it was a bad take. All the while, other receivers with way less talent were applauded because of their ranking and the fact a few UT "journalists" thought they were good pickups. Some of you should go back and watch his film and take a look at his measurements and track times at an early age. Online recruiting evaluations have jumped the shark. Does anyone actually go back and look at past results? Does anyone actually learn how to evaluate talent? Or just make excuses when they're very wrong on a recruit? There's no accountability in this profession.

I think it's possible the B1G wants to temporarily stop at 16 in order to let emotions subside. Hypothetically, if the next move is Stanford, Notre Dame, Oregon and Washington, you probably want to let the political ****show play out in California before making that move. Cal may be in the mix for the B1G, but if they aren't, you definitely want to break the news after UCLA dodges bullets. Right now, it still looks like Cal has a home in the PAC with Stanford and the rest of the gang. This also sends a message to the PNW states that Washington and Oregon don't have much of a choice but to leave OSU and WSU behind, if given the opportunity.

Texas Recruiting Notes 2023: Strippers, Monkeys, and 5-Stars
Sandbagging Steve replied to Machinator's topic in 🤫$9.95🤫
It's not time to panic. We can overcome this at the CB position. The past 2 years remains a major improvement in recruiting, but it still needs a major overhaul and cooperation from the admin. The Average Joe cannot make much of a difference in these recruitments. The Matthew's recruitment is a consistent highlight over the past 40 years, minus a decade after the A&M/SWC cheating scandal. Enforcing fake rules impedes on the success of this program. In a world of incomplete data, Matthews has film and verifiable track times. When you find one with the film, measurements and track times, they're going to be worth upfront dollars on the market. It's hard enough to evaluate. This is exactly the kind of recruit you want on the roster. If this is an attempt to save $ in order to land the 2 defensive linemen from Florida and Duce Robinson, then I will know things have finally changed within the admin. If not the admin, then the staff went rogue and had the players paid under the table. We have a couple of coaches on the roster capable of giving us a puncher's chance with that strategy. UT makes nearly $200,000,000 per year and still refuses to accept the fact that elite recruits get paid very well on the open market. Other programs assist in bringing their networks together. Just knowing the history of this program, I seriously doubt there's been any updates here. It's up to the administration to bring the BMDs into the fold. This coaching staff did everything right in this recruitment, had it won and lost to the dollar bill. I've lost how many times I've said that in my lifetime. You can't blame the coaches until you give them everything they need to win; even if they suck. -
