  1. One year I flew to Vegas for a vendor show at Caesars. Weather delay in Denver so got off plane and took cab to long dinner downtown. It’s almost midnight, I’m wrecked, have a breakfast meeting at 7. Desk clerk says “enjoy your room!” So I go to near end of corridor. Big double doors. It’s a fucking huge 2 br suite, with a full kitchen, huge living room, home theater room, 2 king bedrooms, jacuzzi for 4, showers in both for 4, dining room, etc. Sat in home theater room getting prepped for meeting an hour. I didn’t tell my team as they gripe at my fortune, and didn’t tell my bosses as one would have wanted me to swap with him. Up at 6 to shower and dress. All a waste as I checked out and returned to Denver late that afternoon. No tip. But this was 21 years ago.
  2. No doubt the finest steak sandwich in the nation, but I would put it in my sandwich mt Rushmore. It is that good. I get one every trip up seeing the kids. Del Rancho in Texas would get Franklin type lines.
  3. I’ve got a DQ by my house that has been the worst in the chain. It’s awful. I’ve hit the portal for Jack in the box, with zero nil. That sourdough double smashed Jack is a killer burger if you get a good one.
  4. Leftover prime rib on grilled sourdough with sharp cheddar and horseradish sauce and spicy mustard. This was my son’s. He’d inhaled half by the time I could shoot a pic.
  5. Patty Melt is really good. A1 burger is shit. Dog shit.
  6. Stroud is turning into the typical Ohio State QB . Hot garbage. Bad decisions and totally inaccurate.
  7. Fucking Netflix goes from an ok picture to a hot mess over and over. Pure shit.
  8. Prime rib is smoking. Adding huge baked potatoes with crispy skin. Probably a green thing from DiLs freezer. Cranberry orange jalapeño sauce but DiL didn’t make dressing. Her mother will bring a variety of mediocre bland midwestern food; I eat little of it. I’ll just eat a shitton of beef and a tater for the most part. I miscalculated: 6 adults, 14lb roast.
  9. I think when this show concludes after 4 seasons we will be here saying they could have done the whole fucking thing in 2 seasons. So slow.
  10. Game over and wanted something tasty. Resources a bit limited . Jimmy Dean hot sausage patty smashed, triple pepper jack, charred onions, some spicy best maid bread and butter pickles, French’s yella, dukes, Whataburger spicy ketchup on a Martin’s sesame bun.
  11. Wife loves them with mayo and Dijon. On mine I like 1000 and creole mustard. I get obsessive about making sure I don’t let it get soggy. I start with the buttered bread slowing toasting in the skillet separate with dressings then cheese open faced on each side. In another skillet I barely griddle the meat to put a slight sear on it and put on one side, then put the drained kraut or chopped kimchi in the skillet to get all the liquid out. I like it dry. Put the kraut stop the meat too with the other slice and turn heat up to put a final crunch on the bread. wife isn’t patient to do it like I do. She chops everything up and cooks in a skillet like a cheesesteak and puts on the griddled bread. It’s good but not as. Good as mi e.
  12. So we went to Billy Strings on the 11th (dickies arena is awesome) and we’re going to eat at Railhead before. It was packed so we went to the resurrected Pulido’s. It’s the original on Pulido st. i loved the old place for basic old time blue collar TexMex. It was started as a cafe for the area rail and dairy workers and stayed close to their roots for decades before it cratered. the new place owners are the folks that own JDs, and Margie’s. It was disappointing. I like the different flavor profiles I enjoyed growing up at el Chico, el Fenix, Mexican Inn, Pulidos, etc. it was comforting. Well they kept the old company menu but not the recipes. it wasn’t bad, my cousin liked it a lot. the chips and hot sauce were good. The cheese enchiladas were ok but no onion, and the chili gravy was mostly meat and had slightly scorched. The tamale was not good and those used to rock. Taco was a taco. Beans were delarded and rice bland. Iced tea was fresh brewed. los vaqueros is moving this weekend so we’ll see if they fuck it up.
  13. NFL should have done away with its traditional late December games with the CFP starting. I bet the ratings are less than stellar though these should be good games.
  14. And based on a great record against weak opponents, with mostly players he brought from James Madison, Indiana gave Cignetti a 10 year extension and huge fat raise. Hasn’t even been thru a couple of recruiting cycles or big ten seasons. Another stupid BoT and AD jumping into a dumb contract after a few weeks of success and media hyping their coach for 2025 openings. They’ll regret it.
  15. Black olives are an abomination. Like a fucking kidney bean.
  16. Wife wanted a Reuben. So made her one. Boars head pastrami, Swiss, kraut.
  17. I love Hooker’s. Oklahoma onion burgers, Indian fry bread tacos, and good hot dogs. And certainly not as expensive as Gusto’s. Those are true smash burgers in that the patties are thin with a heavy crust. The pic is a triple. I got the gusto burger as they make it , which is gusto sauce, carmelized onions, best maid pickles. Next time I’ll get it with mustard, pickles, raw onions. As I had it the burger was great but very rich yogis is another good burger. Love the panthers city burger too.
  18. Tupelo is actually a nice town in the NE Mississippi forests. It was the “motion furniture” capital of the world with tons of recliner companies with factories there. That $99 camo rocker recliner was invented by a dude at one of them. kings is absolutely crazy. I thought it was a mockumentary but it’s not. Bet that ex-wife would have been lots of fun back in the day as the singing sex-century.
  19. It’s great but they’ve yet to equal the one on Tootsie. That should be required viewing of every kid in Texas schools. Her story is the story of Texas.
  20. Question re your daughter. Does she enjoy helping you with the car and enjoy the car? I just ask because I’ve become a believer in classic cars as a family heirloom that tell our stories. My 9 year old granddaughter loves helping her dad working on his 03 Excursion project and her mom’s 24 Bronco. She wants my 99 4Runner for her first car and wants to trick it out so she can hunt deers with it. But right now she wants to paint it purple with a big gold unicorn but with a lift kit and big shoes. I just wish I had my mom’s 68 or my 70 442 or my dad’s 71 Ford pu. Your car is looking great. Love that red. Buddy in high school had a 69 with a 351c that he hottodded up. My favorite mustang fascia.
  21. Huh? Call me Mr Milquetoast. I have few opinions about anything. when it comes to food my opinions are only regarding what I eat. Or the compromises one accepts thru 42 years on marriage. You like it then be you and eat it. Ketchup on your well done A5 wagyu at Nick and Sam’s? Grape jelly in your migas? Go for it. I’m a foodways libertarian except for a few specific issues. Like the evilness of kidney beans. Mushrooms suck. A few others.
  22. If the guisada was leftovers and not purposely made fit that dish I think it’s a more reasonable use of available dish elements. But i don’t make the rules.
  23. That’s a lot of wasabi
  24. I don’t know. I think we need a ruling. It’s not paper but doesn’t look like a plate. Looks like a container cover or some kind of cookie platter from a gift basket. SA please clarify.
  25. This is the type of Texas resourceful ingenuity that should be celebrated with at least a roadside historical plaque in your front yard. Fucking brilliance
