The issue with the bfl refs isn’t whether they are part time or full time. The issues are rooted in the culture started by Mike perreira and later head refs to position officials as an equal role to players and coaches in the entertainment aspect of the games. It has totally backfired combined with fucked up cheapshit replay situation the owners insist on. With the league continuing to align with gambling, it is critical that officiating crews be measured with weekly and seasonal stats for crews, explanations of questionable or high visibility calls, and public posting of reprimands, fines, and apology letters to teams. the all star individual crews for playoffs should be changed back to keeping high graded crews intact for playoffs. Replay should change to the AAFL system of a uberreplay official on site with 24 screens which can be immediately selected for review, with the power to alter any call or pick up a flag and internet into the game. The aafl games had better officiating and faster, less intrusive replay issues than the nfl. It is expensive and the owners have balked but Las Vegas needs to pressure them. Coaches should be able to challenge almost any call. Last, the balls need sensors in them. Not just for placement but for PI and other calls. The ball could then be checked as to height for whether a ball was catchable, if it hits the ground, if touched, etc. the markers should have sensors in them as well, replacing the chain and other things.
