  1. Lawfare Snowflake Virtue Signaling It's been going on - quite effectively - for decades now. I recall the "Dittoheads" from the late 80s, early 90s. Whenever I hear this kind of clearly targeted jargon, its a sure sign that user is an empty headed parrot. It's just such a flashing light that screams "I'm an insecure buffoon who can't think for myself. How about I use this meaningless phrase someone else concocted to manipulate me so I can feel like a smart person saying it and momentarily prop up my fragile self-esteem." Meanwhile, the rest of us know what they're about. The same people who scream "I'm an alpha!" without knowing that doesn't always mean what they think it does, and if they were the big dog, they wouldn't need to tell anyone. They'd just be.
  2. One of y'all needs to get this. It's been comign down, down over the last couple weeks. It's about as nice an ES-175 as you'll find and is a steal at the price. If I didn't already have one, I'd be buying this one. Hell, I may buy it to see which of the two I like best then sell the other. https://reverb.com/item/86223706-2012-gibson-es-175d-antique-natural
  3. What should happen is someone with half a brain tells tfg "there's money to be had in beating Russia." Then the US will get behind it. Will be interesting to see what the GOP hawks in the Senate do.
  4. We had an absolute 100% blast! Unfortuantely we arrived too late to do the Herd run across the field, but now I know what to do for the fall games. We arrived in time to meet up with some friends of mine from back in the day who were also attending. But I was just blown away by how much there is to do. It's impossible to check it all out. I wanted to see Pat Green, but Jr. wanted to hit the Midway, and so we did. He loved it. Then we checked out the Hall of Fame and had a wander to see what we could see, and it was time for the game. What an exiting game to see too! But man, all the flashing lights, the flaming batons, drones, holy gucacamole. It's sensory overload, but in the best possible way. I'm already making my "next time we should..." list. We got up and walked around campus a bit yesterday, hit the Coop to get some gear and then checked out the Texas Military Forces Museum out at Camp Mabry before heading back. That's a great little museum if you're into military history. Traffic was a bear on the way back to Dallas. We left at 1:30 and didn't get back until about 5:30. So about an hour longer than usual for me. tl;dr - 100% max fun achieved.
  5. Maybe back then. Not so much now.
  6. Following all this. Going to be my first game at DKR in 24 years (though I’ve made a lot of away playoff and ou games since). I’m bringing Jr for his first Longhorns game ever. He’s turning 12 tomorrow and doesn’t know one of his birthday presents is a surprise run to Austin. His head will explode and I can’t wait! So any and all suggestions are welcome. As it stands I can’t leave Dallas until about 8, so I should get in around 11:30/noon. I’m hoping I can get him signed up for the run into the stadium (though I don’t know exactly where that list is) and watch the band go in.
  7. Pure chaos that the American people voted for. And the people who voted for it have already turned away to whatever shiny thing is distracting them next.
  8. There was a pretty good Frontline on just this issue a while back. Russia has killed or run off any in the current generation who might oppose Putin, and they haven’t developed new leadership in the next generation because Putin of course doesn’t want any rivals. The upshot is there are only like 250-500 people in the whole country who might be able to step in, but they’re all part of the current apparatus so are only incentivized to keep it going, not change it. Contrast this to the US where we develop the world’s talents and have thousands of people who could maintain leadership roles (even though we actually pick the absolute worst among us but that’s another discussion that’s been done to death in CR).

    2025 ACL

    Which suited me just fine.
  10. And then occupy Russia? Did you hear Brisket upthread? So the Russians have ever been, so they will ever be. Patton wouldn’t have done anything Napoleon or Hitler didn’t do.
  11. Not potus but not far off. Pouring one out for YGIFS tonight.
  12. Also, what does "collapse" mean? When people are in breadlines or pushing thier cars to the gas station? Or when Putin gets Mussolinied?
  13. I think there is a pretty good shot that this happens. Especially since the Rs can only lose a few votes.

    2025 ACL

Yes they used to advertise that. The problem in recent years is they’ll have someone on each of the main stages, but one of them will have blown up right before ACL and another won’t. So it isn’t like they’ve oversold, it’s just that while the festival is designed to have the crowd evenly distributed, the crowd in virtual entirety decides to go see one act. Chappell Roan was that act this year.
  15. Yeah, I've been developing a pile of gear I need to recycle into better/different gear. I just can't seem to get motivated to get rid of though. Maybe a new years resolution to thin/change the heard. I have developed my collection wish list. That has at least focused my wild-eyed "all of 'em!!!" approach to curating my collection.
  16. I asked for two guitar straps. But I may buy myself a guitar.
  17. So what’s on the Christmas list this year gents? Anyone expecting/asking for new gear?
  18. Damn. The 63-67 Vettes are so rad.
  19. Open channel is spot on. I did a couple years at UNT before transferring to UT. I had really been wood shedding before I got there with dreams of making it big in Denton! I ate in the cafeteria at Bruce Hall where all the musicians stayed. There would be pick up bands playing in the lobby for fun and I’ve seen people since as good, but no one better. In those days Bruce didn’t have a/c so all the windows would be open and you’d hear this cacophony of musicians practicing - and showing off for each other - as you just walked down the street on the way to Biology class. It was at that point I realized that music would always be an avocation for me, not a vocation. I could practice 20 hours a day for 20 years and never get to where that dorm full of talented as fuck kids were. It was also where I learned I was not so great at math and needed to be in liberal arts. But that’s a story for another day. In any case, that’s kind of how I felt watching Billy Strings. But I had a lot of fun watching. I’ll definitely see him again.
  20. He's playing was about as good as any blugrass player I've ever seen. To be able to do that kind of a speed and accuracy for 3 hours straight was impressive. And it wasn't just "hey watch me play all these hyper technical licks.' he played it with feeling. And when he put that through his wild ass pedal array, it was something altogether different. I don't think I've ever heard an acoutic sound quite like that before. There was definitley a novelty aspect to it.
  21. I thought he put on a great show. I was expeting bluegrass, but I wasn't really expecing psychedelic bluegrass and we got both. I didn't really know what to expect. I'd seen a few YouTube vids and some friends I respect had raved about him, but I wasn't so sure about it. I went on a lark as friend had tickets but couldn't go. I'm really glad I did. Next time I would show up earlier. I didn't appreciate that apparently he has a Dead like following. Rather, a lot of Dead fans follow him. There were a ton there in typical Dead regalia. There were also a lot of folks in parking lot selling their wares. I wasn't able to partake as I couldn't leave work early. Then there were a bunch of straight up FW rednecks there. Then there were just the regular work a day folks like me. All of this is a way to say, the show was as much of a scene as Billy, which seemed really cool to me. It reminded me of all the stories we've read/heard about Willie's early days when the rednecks and hippies would just hang out and groove on the good music. It was also my first time at Dickies arena. I've shied away from arena shows of late. But I'd have to say as far as arenas go, it was really good. The sound was on point (at least from about mid floor, where I was). It's a beautiful, new facility. LIke a scaled down AAC.
