    2025 ACL

Yes they used to advertise that. The problem in recent years is they’ll have someone on each of the main stages, but one of them will have blown up right before ACL and another won’t. So it isn’t like they’ve oversold, it’s just that while the festival is designed to have the crowd evenly distributed, the crowd in virtual entirety decides to go see one act. Chappell Roan was that act this year.
  2. Yeah, I've been developing a pile of gear I need to recycle into better/different gear. I just can't seem to get motivated to get rid of though. Maybe a new years resolution to thin/change the heard. I have developed my collection wish list. That has at least focused my wild-eyed "all of 'em!!!" approach to curating my collection.
  3. I asked for two guitar straps. But I may buy myself a guitar.
  4. So what’s on the Christmas list this year gents? Anyone expecting/asking for new gear?
  5. Damn. The 63-67 Vettes are so rad.
  6. Open channel is spot on. I did a couple years at UNT before transferring to UT. I had really been wood shedding before I got there with dreams of making it big in Denton! I ate in the cafeteria at Bruce Hall where all the musicians stayed. There would be pick up bands playing in the lobby for fun and I’ve seen people since as good, but no one better. In those days Bruce didn’t have a/c so all the windows would be open and you’d hear this cacophony of musicians practicing - and showing off for each other - as you just walked down the street on the way to Biology class. It was at that point I realized that music would always be an avocation for me, not a vocation. I could practice 20 hours a day for 20 years and never get to where that dorm full of talented as fuck kids were. It was also where I learned I was not so great at math and needed to be in liberal arts. But that’s a story for another day. In any case, that’s kind of how I felt watching Billy Strings. But I had a lot of fun watching. I’ll definitely see him again.
  7. He's playing was about as good as any blugrass player I've ever seen. To be able to do that kind of a speed and accuracy for 3 hours straight was impressive. And it wasn't just "hey watch me play all these hyper technical licks.' he played it with feeling. And when he put that through his wild ass pedal array, it was something altogether different. I don't think I've ever heard an acoutic sound quite like that before. There was definitley a novelty aspect to it.
  8. I thought he put on a great show. I was expeting bluegrass, but I wasn't really expecing psychedelic bluegrass and we got both. I didn't really know what to expect. I'd seen a few YouTube vids and some friends I respect had raved about him, but I wasn't so sure about it. I went on a lark as friend had tickets but couldn't go. I'm really glad I did. Next time I would show up earlier. I didn't appreciate that apparently he has a Dead like following. Rather, a lot of Dead fans follow him. There were a ton there in typical Dead regalia. There were also a lot of folks in parking lot selling their wares. I wasn't able to partake as I couldn't leave work early. Then there were a bunch of straight up FW rednecks there. Then there were just the regular work a day folks like me. All of this is a way to say, the show was as much of a scene as Billy, which seemed really cool to me. It reminded me of all the stories we've read/heard about Willie's early days when the rednecks and hippies would just hang out and groove on the good music. It was also my first time at Dickies arena. I've shied away from arena shows of late. But I'd have to say as far as arenas go, it was really good. The sound was on point (at least from about mid floor, where I was). It's a beautiful, new facility. LIke a scaled down AAC.
  9. Man that is looking nice!
  10. Is there something specific you’re referencing here?
  11. What a show.
  12. Ahem. The Alamo, anyone?
  13. I figured since it's clear that Turkey is backing this venture in large part, they'd have an opinion as to whether Russia hung around or not. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if they moved in to assist their friends in Syria by protecting their naval bases while they got their act together. Which of course, is an indefinite time period.
  14. Which head are you looking at? I think the 202 is what I want, over the 101. 202. Just in case you need that extra push over the edge.
  15. OK, sure. They get "appointed" once they've been vetted to be a good ole boy/girl by the local bankruptcy bar and DOJ has had their say. But I think we're both agreeing that they are not judges in the Article III sense that was implied upthread.
  16. This stood out to me as well. Wow. There you go.
  17. fify: hopium and cognitive dissonance. I literally had to laugh out loud at the idea tfg could even say "Game Theoretical" much less participate in it. You got me there. This right here. Seems like this should go in the other thread, the one about Syria. Still, I hope these negotiations go poorly for him.
  18. You are correct I hate tfg. I think you are incorrect that he knows how to be a bigger bully. Further, I think you operate from a false premise: Putin is a bigger bully. Trump is scared shitless of him. We all saw it in his eyes. In other words, as stated previously, I'll believe tfg's stance towards Putin has changed when I see evidence. I asked for evidence up thread. So far there has been none. Only words, and those have been few and not convincing.
  19. Can someone point me to where tfg said anything like this? First, I don't believe he said it - would love to be proven wrong. Second, I don't believe for a blink of an eye that he would follow through. I saw Helsinki. Putin has the goods on him somehow and someway that tfg won't push back.

    2025 ACL

Texas/ou is typically the second weekend of October.
  21. Wow that is gorgeous!
  22. Listen, I'm not saying they don't exist. I'm saying what I've seen doesn't lead me to believe that it's particularly wide spread. There have been plenty of bankruptcy court decisions I don't agree with, but I've never seen one and said, "Oh yeah, this jurist is hardcore MAGA."
  23. No. Bankruptcy judges are not article III judges. They aren't appointed and don't serve for life. The DOJ puts up an advertisement like any other job, and bankruptcy attorneys apply for it. It's an insular system with its problems. It's much more political on a local level (which big firm's fair haired boy will become the bk judge? Where will they want to work afterwards, and with whom? What business can they bring to the courthouse because people know and like them? These are the questions that get asked rather than will "he want to give Alex Jones a pass because he's our boy" level. In short, bankruptcy judges are more often cut from country club Republican cloth. They are not typically political radicals.
