The problem isn't even the pissy third party voters going against their own best interests. The problem is the pissy third party voters bitching about how awful both choices were for other people (poor people, mostly minorities) whom they think should be better served by the system (which they were right about), and allowing an explicit fascist to win. It was pure heighten-the-contradictions thinking which is almost always (1) stupid because it rarely actually works (see W), and (2) selfish, because it's poor brown people and not the white college liberals that have to bear the brunt of the cost.

    Yup.

"Both candidates suck, so we are voting for someone who will never be president in the quixotic hope that both parties will come courting to get our 5% vote in the NEXT election by providing us with the perfect unicorn candidate who we can get behind 100%."

    Grow the fuck up.

Saw a blub on the news about Boeing developing a hypersonic airliner for the next decade. I thought the Concorde's financial flop was enough to discourage any more such attempts at faster air travel.

They always talk about it.  Part of the problem with hypersonic travel is that you heat up the outside of the craft so much that even if you get on the ground on the other side of the world fast, you'd have to wait for the aircraft to cool before you could exit.  At least, this was the problem a few years back.  Maybe composites have improved enough to make this less troublesome.

  3. By way of follow up, you guys who are seeing the Pixies/Weezer tour are in for a treat.  Great sets with no lulls from both acts.  They were both shorter sets than I'd like (Pixies 1hr, Weezer 1.5) but the up side was they got going and never let up.  Weezer's whole stage production was really cool as well.  Took you through their career visually.  I won't spoiler it, but I thought it was pretty clever low-fi cool in the true 80s/90s alt rock tradition.

  4. In.  I was in a surf rock band in the early 2000s.  Mainly for our own entertainment, because let me tell you, it was hard to find a following for instrumental surf rock from the 60s in early 2000s Dallas.  Anyhow, it was a lot of fun.  One of my favorites to play (among those that haven't already been mentioned):

  5. This is probably in the NK thread already, but deserves a spot here.  We are mere days removed from The Greatest Diplomatic Success of ALL TIMEZ!!! in Singapore, and Dotus is being made a fool of once again as Lil Kim just moves forward with more nuke progress since he knows he's pulled the wool over Dotus's eyes.  Goddam Trump is an idiot.

  6. So I just booked tix to OSH for this year. I can only squeeze in the second weekend because of limited vacay days. But I’m pretty excited. The Mrs. and Chad Jr. are coming with so I probably won’t make the rounds as much as the posts from the old place.

That said, there have been a couple of remarkable restos this year I’d like to see in addition to poking around all the newest stuff. Watch this space...

    Can anyone identify these?

The lap steel looks some kind of Gibson Skylark.

No, not mine, but at a local estate sale. They have an auto harp, an older mandolin, a classical, a small bodied acoustic, an LP knockoff, and a bass I don’t recognize.

If they're selling that Gibson less that $500 I'll buy it from you if you pick it up.

Can't see the name on the Dobro.

  8. Exactly.  Give the poor kids a break.  LZ is a pretty high (unattainable) comparison to make.  I always feel sorry for bands that get "They're the next LZ/Beatles/Stones!!! OMG!!!!"

No.  They aren't.  And it would suck to try and have to go out there and play with that kind of expectation hanging over you.

  9. I was trying to be Jimmy Page at 16 as well, so I can't blame them for trying on that look.  Nothing out there is like it right now.

Only difference is Jimmy and JPJ were extremely talented session musicians, while Bonzo and Plant were just crazy talents dropped to earth from the Gods of Rock.

While I enjoy these guys, I don't think they were blessed with the kind of natural talent LZ had.

    Hypothetical:

You find two MIM Standard Telecasters, basically identical, same color and style, in near mint condition, for the same price, only one is early 2000s and the other is only a few years old...which one would you buy?

    The one that felt better.

I'm pretty sure John Dean was pro-John Dean, and nobody else, at least once he got caught.  Before that he was just a crook.

You work with the examples you have, not the ones you wish you had.  Or something like that.

This better happen.  At 41% approval right now, he needs to drop the fucking hammer.  A good 40% of the country won't believe it.  Needs to be irrefutable and stone cold.

He knows if you shoot at the king, you can't afford to miss.
