  1. From what I understand, those things are really giant tinderboxes. It's basically wood framing covered in plywood, with perhaps some asbestos cladding depending on when/where/who did the construction to gov contract. It's a wonder any of them have lasted this long. About the Tillamook fire: https://www.tillamookheadlightherald.com/news/blimp-base-devouring-inferno-reaches-25-year-anniversary/article_f676a39a-8cf7-11e7-a97f-bf02e56b217c.html
  2. Joe Walsh. I love Ronnie but he was a step down from Mick Taylor. There, I said it.
  3. Maybe. But regarding your parenthetical, if I’ve learned anything during this debacle, it’s that the Russians are not like us. So maybe it’s “required” that a tech be on site. But if I’m Yuri, I’m probably banging whores and not working on Yaks. Or only putting in token face time because I’m getting paid to spend my time selling the parts on the black market. I’m also struggling to come up with what Russian equipment the Brazilians have because they buy a ton of stuff used from us and Western Europe. Helicopters maybe?
  4. I was at that show. Surprised I didn’t see you. DMB was pretty forgettable. As was MB20. Pumpkins and Stones both put on good shows though.
  5. And allowed them to test tanks and build the Luftwaffe there in contravention of the Versailles treaties. Stalin didn't think his "buddy" Hitler would "stab him in the back" by invading. Sure enough authoritarians gonna authoritarian.
  6. Fuck this shitty gop government. Ruining people’s lives for nothing.
  7. Three words no one has ever put together before.
  8. Everyone loved Ringo. That's my take away.
  9. I agree with all of this. I remember an article shortly after the 95 recordings were released where GH said this one was "rubbish." But I'm not sure if he meant the quality or the recording or the tune itself. Further, my sense of George as a person is that he was never the warm, friendly Beatle, and had a tendency to come off a bit curt regarding the Beatles, especially as the late 80s gave way to the 90s. He was not one for nostalgia. There's also a bit of video from the 95 recordings where the three are there playing a bit of something (a Sun track, perhaps Elvis, I can't recall) and when it's done he just gets up and says, "Well that's enough nostalgia for me, I'm out." Or words to that effect.
  10. https://www.billboard.com/music/chart-beat/paul-mccartney-ringo-starr-dolly-parton-beatles-chart-first-let-it-be-1235402344/ Not a whole lot, but there's a list (not sure if exhaustive) in this article.
  11. So I was in the shower this morning (no pics) and my playist pulled up "I'm Only Sleeping." To me, that's a stellar track. I love it. It's not the usual teen romance fluff for lyrics, the chord progression is interesting, and the recording itself is innovative with the backwards guitar solo. Yet it's still not a single and is probably a "second" tier Beatles song by any measure. Granted, second tier for The Beatles is mostly unobtainable for most bands out there. I don't think "Now and Then" reaches "I'm Only Sleeping" stature. And it's definitely nostalgic. Anyhow, I'm thinking we're agreeing here, just some thoughts that wiggled loose this morning. It's my last chance to obsess over a new Beatles record, so I'm taking it.
  12. This is pretty spot on. It would be a b side or buried in side 2 of an album back in the day. And while it’s nice to hear Paul say the other two would’ve been all for it…I’m skeptical. It really strikes me as a love letter by the remaining two to their lost friends and put a bow on their legacy. Or will always be said that they left it all on the table for their fans. There’s literally nothing more - new at least - for them to give.
  13. Looks like it is to be as we had expected: https://www.chron.com/gulf-coast/article/battleship-texas-galveston-deal-18467432.php?utm_campaign=CMS&fbclid=IwAR2SxvaKgLYCbWZcUICHz8CEV8FKFTvkFIVw7Uca_BOPZnLtpv-sbicBmcE_aem_AVfVEUxwmpzWdfvoSW_LGByXDH5RtJZyPWWL3q4HkYbv8wWRfWtDDBLphFsvJzeX2Hk&mibextid=S66gvF
