  1. i’m pretty sure that Thomas and Company won’t have a problem if Trump and a GOP Congress enact a modern Alien and Sedition act redo.
  2. This actually meshes with my prior post. The bailout meant that they did not wind up being harmed. Which is why they do not remember or focus on being harmed. They weren’t. If most had to declare bankruptcy or lost their farms, I guarantee you there would be a different view of Trump from 2016. I think that from an evolutionary standpoint we are hardwired to be selfish and self-centered. If I don’t tell the whole tribe of the food source I found during a time of famine, then I can share it with only my family and we can survive. If I tell everyone, the tribe will eat my food source in one meal. If I keep it to myself and ration it, my family and I will survive a month and not die with the other tribe members. As we evolved, we realized we needed the help of other society members for protection against enemies, to more efficiently grow food crops to work together to build hilltop fortifications - that later became walled castles- to protect us from those who want to harm us. Having community grain supplies means the whole town would not starve. Because we realize we needed the whole town. And the greater the specialization of our work, the more we needed each other. We were all good at Hunter gathering, but now you know how to grow food as a farmer, but you don’t know how to make barrels cause you’re not a Cooper, or to build a stone home because you’re not a mason, or to make an iron plow because you’re not a blacksmith, etc.. Which is all to say, it’s not like we don’t recognize the value of all aspects of society some of the time. It’s just that a more evolved thinking will give way to the reptile brain protecting me and mine almost every time. This is my long winded way of saying do not give up on people who should have learned that Trump is a disastrous pile of shit for the country. Because as long as they weren’t personally impacted then they can overlook it. They won’t overlook it if their family or friends are harmed. I still think they are piles of crap if the only thing that motivates them is self interest - but I welcome them under the tent if self interest will make them vote against Republicans.
  3. “Well, Mr. < checks notes> Eddie…. We have no problem with you taking the little unused shampoo bottle home. But the wooden hangers - well - that is why you are here.”
  4. You can get an expedited passport appointment if you show up at a passport center with an overseas reservation that is dated within 14 days of the passport request. Since New Orleans is a regional passport, center, I made several fully refundable Southwest flights to Cancun reservations, and kept trying to get an expedited appointment. I canceled the first reservation the day before the flight, as I could not get an appointment in New Orleans that week - but on my second attempt the next week I was able to go down the very next day and get my passport within two hours. I then canceled the second Cancun flight. The next month when I flew to New Zealand I had my shiny new passport in my hands. Granted, this only works if you have access to a regional passport center. I think San Antonio has one. But if you are near a regional passport center, it’s pretty damn easy to do a workaround and get your passport ASAP.
  5. “Are you familiar with the term ‘Captain Tripps’….?”
  6. “Paaawl….we gotta buncha bidnesses that ain’t honorin’ NIL cash to our boys. I mean to tell you son, he can deport the Beaners and fire all them fairies and uppity wimmins - but if he fucks with the Tahd we gonna impeach his ass!”
  7. “By any chance, do you happen to have a list of your colleagues who are not white male Christians?”
  8. Just tell the small business owners who are losing their livelihood (because government workers are no longer coming in to the little lunch deli around the corner) that they are experiencing the temporary pain that Trump talked about on the way to making the country great again. I mean, great again after they lose absolutely everything.
  9. Hell, the state of Mississippi did not ratify the 13th amendment outlawing slavery until 1995. But they got that wrong and had to correct the error and so finally outlawed slavery in 2013.
  10. I’ve been reflecting on this for a couple days, and I’m almost convinced that we’ve got things to be very happy about, If Trump had not gone all in on project 2025 we would be in worse shape. He would still be creating ill will among our allies and causing economic description with his stupid tariff talk, and he would still be terrorizing undocumented workers. But the timing of that is incredible. He is hurting farmers and businesses.. He is shutting down much needed federal aide to school schools and other entities - like those that depend on federal funding to meet the needs of special needs children. He is firing a huge swath of people in the federal government, all of which will lead to bankruptcies loss of homes, children being pulled out of college, divorces, etc. Everyone negatively affected by his policies and loss of employment will quit investing in their 401(k)s and IRA’s. If he had an ounce of a brain, he should’ve let things ride and been status quo while he rounded up people that had not been given temporary permission to live in the country. After that was complete, then he could go after the other groups. What I am trying to say is that he did not need to create a giant swath of different demographic groups as enemies from the beginning. Had he waited on some of his worst ideas and just focused on deporting undocumentedHispanics without temporary permits, the pressure would’ve been off him for a while - at least it would’ve been far less pressure from far fewer groups. What a pathetic excuse for a Hitler. Hitler annexed Austria. Then the Sudetenland. Then the Czechoslovak Republic. Then Lithuania. Then the Free City of Danzig. Then Poland. Then Prussian Belgium. You don’t do it all at once. If Trump had a modicum of sense, he would’ve limited the number of newly created enemies until he had successfully accomplished some of his evil but less problematic policies. Going full dictator out of the gate is attractive to a narcissist with a 30 second attention span, but he is giving an absolute gift to the resistance by doing this. It’s the type of business acumen that will make you fail as a casino owner.
  11. People negatively impacted by something that is directly political - that leads to their personal lives being hurt - often remember that in a different way than someone voting to do things they don’t like, but does not negatively affect them. Shockingly, we are self-centered and selfish, and take harm to our family differently than harmed to other people. I remember some guy on an old Florida board who still hated Frank Borman because he did something to his dad‘s employment at Eastern Airlines. I mean, like 30 years later, he was still raging at the man who harmed his family. My hope is that the horrible negative impact Trump’s policies have on many millions of people will bring about the same response. My biggest bitch right now is that we don’t have 30 second commercials by the Democratic national party describing 20 different ways in which Trump is fucking everybody with his current policies. The last line of each commercial is “if you had voted Democratic, your family would not be suffering like this.”

  13. there is some Ukrainian news stuff that I can’t see on other platforms. I get it and I care, but not enough to self limit some sources I find valuable.
  14. I’m just guessing, but my layman’s understanding is that heat treating is in fact pasteurization. They advertise as ultrafiltered
  15. I don’t drink a hell of a lot of milk so I always buy the Fairlife brand that is ultra pasteurized. That way it can stay in my refrigerator for a month or so until I use it all. i’m a tad bit of a prepper, so when Covid hit I bought a bunch of cartons of egg beaters and froze them in my chest freezer. I’ve just been pulling them out, defrosting them and using them. Better than no eggs anyway.
  16. Unless you can get Congress to pass a law telling them not to listen to conservative info sphere, and that they must listen to Democrats, your suggestion sounds very muck like demanding world peace - and saying that is the Democrats job to do that. I mean, that sounds good at all, but it is probably a tad naïve to just say “go implement that!” And as long as brown, black and gay people are identified with the Democrats, telling Joe lunchpail how they will make his life better won’t work if the person describing how democrats are going to do that is brown or black or gay or Muslim. But it is a legitimate problem.
  17. I might not have been clear. I wasn’t referring to the general voting populous, but to the close friends and family of the deported. I totally agree that people who are in no danger of being deported do not emotionally give two shits about this. At least until their Cobb Salad costs $25.
  18. Nice humble brag.
  19. And even today, that cold Bud Light can still sits in the same refrigerator, in the same spot, unopened.
  20. What I would like to know for every undocumented person or revoked documented person arrested and sent out of the country, how many legal (voting)family members remain? I would assume that having your spouse or parent or grandparent or close neighbor arrested and removed is going to be a major motivator in future elections. I would love to know how many people this affects. Many of these cultures have familial relationships that are larger and those relationships closer and more intertwined than how we view our nuclear families.
  21. Yeah. I wrote that while sampling some 9 Pound Hammer.
