  1. When do we get the executive order to change the Statue of Liberty to have the torch down at her side and her other hand up with her palm saying “no entry”?
  2. to say that midterms will be interesting as an understatement. If we are allowed to vote and all.
  3. Surly aside, I am absolutely aware of the propensity of men to be stupid lecherous assholes. I am also aware of an older colleague who was turned into HR by a 21-year-old paralegal for sexual harassment for the sin of telling her “ you look very pretty today”. Now, in the year of our Lord 2025 should an old guy tell a young woman that? No, not unless they were a long time work buddies with a close friendship that eliminated any sexual connotation. So I know that men can be pigs, and I know that some young women today see misogyny and sexism at every statement and around every corner. How will this turn out? I have no idea. We are currently ranked number 5 in the country, and if there is sufficient evidence to fire the guy today, I am all for it. Even if it burns the program down. But to be honest, I do not know the details well enough to have an opinion on the credibility of the charges or the credibility of his defense. We aren’t Baylor and we aren’t FSU. I do know that there is a pretty well developed HR investigation procedure for things like this, and that they follow it very closely because a wrongful termination will obviously cost them a shit ton of money. And a botched Baylor like investigation will also lead to the accuser rightfully suing our ass if there is even a whiff of cover-up. And I would support that totally. The one thing I do know with certainty is that investigations will not happen quickly to appease Florida fans who may want the coach cleared - or fans of other schools who want the coach fired. So we will see.
  4. Fuck. I had a flyable Stuka airplane model as a kid. But then, my WWII Sherman Tank Commander father told me how much he hated fucking Stukas.
  5. If one reads through the “I’m an alcoholic” thread, this absolutely profound and true statement is verified time after time - by person after person. if you haven’t read through the thread lately Poco, I suggest that you do - if for no other reason than to help you with your very natural guilt at not helping your son…. which is, of course, in reality, you absolutely helping your son.
  6. While I would hate my white Tesla to be spray-painted with a swastika (not that I would own one), there are multiple layers of positives from that. OK, maybe not positive for the guy who owns the white Tesla. But the interweb being what it is, now people throughout the world know you might get your car spray-painted if it’s a Tesla. It’s not unreasonable to assume that will cause a reduction in sales for the simple reason people don’t want their car painted. It will also educate people who don’t know about Nazi boy that he is a Nazi boy. And it may make people trade in their Tesla for another model, all for the same reason. I do not condone it, but I’m not unhappy to see it. And while, undoubtedly, the spray painter bears culpability for spray painting, so does Elmo. Elmo has tried to make the brand an extension of his own narcissistic identity and welcomed Tesla ownership as joining his cult of personality. So Elmo had to know that what he does personally reflects on the company he has embraced as a part of his personality. TL;DR. Tesla boy fucked around and now he is finding out. edit: I haz a disappoint with the legal community. Where are the goddamn shareholder derivative suits?
  7. My Key lime tree needs friends. What variety are your avocado and Mandarin trees? (I assume you need a couple avocado trees to pollinate.)
  8. My dad paid $100 to get it repainted blue. That paint job cost more than the car purchase. Which had something to do with the turd part.
  9. The only thing I can say about my 1965 Ford Falcon (manual choke, floor button you stepped on to dim the headlights), is that my high school buddies christened it, “The Blue Turd”
  10. We’ll work up an old number six on ‘em!
  11. When I bought my first Subaru Chrysler was making K cars (or rather, inflicting K cars) for the American public. Buying American in 1980 instead of Japanese was more of an intelligence test than a patriotism test.
  12. And we as a nation are very good at finger pointing.
  13. BTW, my ex brother-in-law is a guest of the state of Georgia, having received his latest DUI after several prior DUIs where his legitimate Iraq PTSD and military service cards were used to get them out of more serious penalties on his prior DUIs. it certainly sucks, but my brother-in-law is only not in jail for vehicular homicide because he was lucky enough to drive drunk many many times without that horrific consequence. Anyone who continues to drive while under the influence after being charged with DUI numerous previous times should be in jail. For how long, and how to cure the addiction is a different societal matter.
  14. Reason 3,458 that Surly is an awesome place Maybe our criminal law dogs could weigh in, but it would seem that him having tried the sober living and succeeded while trying living on his own and failing, that another sober group home would be doable. But perhaps he needs to put in some jail time before they let him attempt that again. Still, it is nice to know he has a place to go after the judge sentences him (if he is not inclined to give him a non-jail pass on this latest event). He could argue that he was not driving when he drank the alcohol that showed up on his hearing test, but a judge should never trust the word of an alcoholic about where and when and how much he drank.
  15. Really? you love your kids. This situation is the most fucked up thing you could imagine. if the family is not in counseling over this then maybe you should consider that.
  16. if only the Russians could get a handle on that successful anti-drone missile debris problem, they’d have it made.
  17. it would be nice to know what the consequences are for violating his sentencing rules. Are we talking about 30 days or something longer?
  18. To be fair, it would’ve been difficult to convey that figuratively. Try to find a restroom and avoid the Cinnabon.
  19. He wants to name it after an Italian? Fuck that!
  20. Will it include the JFK/Marilyn Monroe sex tape?
  21. Dude. AI does that now. If we need to know something, it will let us know.
  22. The new Trump Federal Commission on elections and banning voting machines from Venezuela will make sure that doesn’t happen. Maybe.
  23. Posting on this site is like signing the Book of the Devil. No take-backsies
  24. As long as the Cult votes the way he says, no GOP elected official would knowingly get on his bad side. I hope I’m wrong. But I don’t think I am. The left that is currently numb is going to start resisting in every way possible, and nothing about this term is going to make the great political divide any less bitter and divisive. As long as his base says, “ if you disagree with orange man, I hate you!”, I do not see any spines growing in a GOP Congress.
