Ossoff should get some more mention of bigger things in the future. He’s white, young, straight, serious, fucking smart and not an asshole.  Also from a Southern state.

I'd like to think if I was caught with my pants down, and my hair getting mussed, I'd go full Gen. Buck Turgidson - chew gum hard, scowl.

Greaser Bob's posting history says otherwise. He posts bizarrely naive shit all the time.

Yeah, but at least I'm not naive about sarcasm.

I'm the Chauncey Gardiner of surly.

By the way, if you're in Boerne, that meskin ice cream place, Michoacan Pido de somthing, is pretty good.  Random strip shopping center just off the highway.

I got some chocolate Abuelita or some such.  Basically chocolate ice cream with cinnamon, that was pretty tasty.

Had dinner that night at the Rail place in Kerrville.  Which was not particularly tasty but they tried.

  4. I don't know how to update the top post, so I'll just update as we go.

I'm cheap, and I've gotten some fine recommendations from surly.  So why not.

Here are the rules.  Not putting a cap on the price of the wine but in reality, yeah, let's put a cap on it - say $25?  But I'm really looking for the crazy bargains.

You recommend a budget wine that just has really blown you away - specify whether you are comparing it to all wines or just a fantastic value that can be appreciated. If it gets another mention (not just an upvote but an actual mention, it will go on the list.  If you have a bad experience, say so, and it comes off the list.

The idea is to build a list of top 10 - five reds, three whites, two sparklings.

I just want a cheat sheet when I go to specs.

Funny is subjective, but I don’t understand the satirical nature.

    I disagree.  It's not subjective.

    If you believe it.

  6. Fiscally conservative means balancing the budget.  A government that spends 100 trillion and taxes 101 trillion is more fiscally conservative than a government that spends 10 trillion and taxes 9 trillion.

Hence, I can be the most generous provider of benefits for the people in the world and still be fiscally conservative.

Depends on how you define socially liberal.  I've always thought of that as liberal in the sense of providing freedoms to people.  I don't really think of it as one who necessarily thinks government should only be about "charity".

I think government should be involved in charity (assisting people) when it benefits the common good.  Hence, hefty government spending for education, social security, health.

I'm fiscally conservative and favor a real, actual progressive tax system.

This is good advice.  It's a long walk over to Jefferson, but it's still cool with the tidal basin and reflections.

When my wife were still newlyweds we went to a wedding in DC.  We didn't have time to see the monuments so the day we flew out I woke up early and did the early morning nighttime tour by myself.  Was great.  When I got back I told her no one was at the Lincoln so I had crawled up on Lincoln's lap when no one was around.

She was furious and lectured me for climbing up the monument.

  8. Agora is fun - casual.

Le diplomate is great too, but really loud - try to get somewhere in the back if you want to talk.  Pastis DC over in Union Market - went there for lunch (after National Arboretum) and it was very good.  Same kind of vibe as Le Dip.  Union Market vibe just not as cool as the one over at Logan Circle.

Daughter lives in Mount Pleasant if you want to get into the urban feel.  Not tons up there but Elle is a coffee shop during the day but a nice little intimate place to grab dinner.  A few blocks down above a dentist office is a great speakeasy:  OKPB.

Family likes annabelle over by the Phillips Collection but I wasn't that blown away.  Maybe my main dish.  But nice place to stroll over to if you are in Du Pont.

I'm totally happy having a beer and eating lunch at Kramer's and just walking until my legs give out when I'm over there.  Heading over in a couple of weeks.

But I hope every person drawing SS has to go through steps to prove they are real, alive, citizens, and have old paychecks to prove they paid in.

And I hope anyone who supports this has to deal with SS for eternity on behalf of a parent with dementia. With an SS that won't take your call or allow you to start on online account of behalf of said parent.
