  1. So I'm getting my grandson one of those standalone Crosley style suitcase record players.  He's probably going to be 90% fascinated by the moving parts, 10% by the music (he's 3) but one song he likes is Yellow Submarine.

I should be able to figure this out on youtube or google but I'm coming up empty.  Isn't there a kind of narrated version of the soundtrack that tells the story (or just with selected lines from the movie)?  I'm not sure if that is just my imagination or what.  But I can't seem to locate it, if such a vinyl disc exists.

What daylight do you see between what she's talking about and price controls?  It's not like we're the only ones that say it looks like that.

Most state price gouging statutes contain these three elements:

    1. Emergency or Crisis Situation – applies to abrupt price increases during a time of disaster or other emergency
    2. Essential Items or Services – applies exclusively to items or services that are essential to survival
    3. Price Limit – sets a limit on the price that can be charged for essential goods or services

I could see a Price Gouging statute that had a relatively high standard of proof that required a showing of monopoly or a certain jump in profit margin unrelated to product improvement, etc.

I see something like that as distinct from simple price controls.

  3. When I showed up to Stanford at age 18 from San Antonio I was a Mexican American and the dudes from Califas were Chicanos.  If you were on top of your Cesar Chavez lore, you were a Chicano.

Chicanos were union folks, were still pissed about Chavez Ravine, and knew about the zoot suit riots.  Mexican Americans tried, but couldn't get Freddie Fenders "Next Teardrop Falls", out of their heads.

We all agreed on Los Lobos.

  4. Sorry if already mentioned, but shouldn't KW just ride the Olympic wave to victory?  With all that breaking and Snoop/Dre shit, not to mention the beautiful women sprinters, this felt like the most black pride Olympics ever.

It really feels like in the last few years, black artists and athletes have solidified the way media views beauty and strength in this country.

I feel like from a policy standpoint I am a bit more progressive as I age, but in the short run, I want to be with the winners, and the winners feel like they are the mocha ones.
