USC's defense is supposed to be a liability this year so I don't see why "3 pick sixes" is bad.  It's obviously not sustainable, but USC had 4 interceptions against Rice after getting 4 interceptions all of 2021 so if nothing else that's a clear improvement when it comes to havoc.  Anyways, I'd throw out USC's recent record in Palo Alto.  That's even less relevant than the outcome against Rice.  Saturday will be the first time since the 2000s Stanford doesn't have a decisive coaching advantage in this matchup.  USC also won't have questionable QB play like our last couple losses up there.  In 2016 the loss at Stanford was Max Browne's final start at QB (Darnold took over the following week).  In 2018 it was JT Daniels' first road start as a true freshman.  It's a safe assumption Lincoln Riley and Caleb Williams will produce more than the combined 13 points those two QBs did at Stanford under Helton.

I think the Stanford D is going to be more helpful than Lincoln and Caleb when it comes to scoring USC points.

I saw Stanford lose to K-State in Dallas last year and anything better than losing 33-14 is going to make me happy.

Although either way, I'll be in a generous mood, still basking in the Texas win earlier in the day.

Relevant to the French Connection discussion above, The Wages of Fear.

The first action movie?  Decent, a bit plodding and navel-gazing and somewhat unrealistic, but I think the first of its type.

Further relevant to the French Connection is the Friedkin remake, Sorcerer.

It has pretty good reviews, but I wonder if I should watch it close on the heels of Wages.

I've only seen Sorcerer once, many years ago.  Need to see it again.  Was wallowing in my netflix queue so moved it up.

One thing I’ve been curious about some of the small county trips of Beto are whether those are mainly locals or supporters who traveled 4 hours to raise the attendance level. If the latter, I question the benefit.

Yep.  I'm anticipating a post election talking point related to this.

Beto has probably been the single biggest boost to Texas tourism in the last few years.

Thanks for the comment. Trump and his hardcore followers have forever blasted the judiciary for one ruling or another, sometimes resulting in physical threats to judges, but always with the intention of demeaning the person both professionally and personally.

With comments like “corrupt psycho…fuck you, cunt…ignore the bitch…this dumb traitor”, it seems like some posters on Surly approve of this tactic.

    #14 USC (1-0) @ Stanford (1-0) - 6:30, ABC
The Trojan debuts of Lincoln Riley, Caleb Williams, and Jordan Addison went about as you’d expect as USC put up 66 points in their opener.  However they are only favored by 9 on the road against Stanford.  That feels low to me.

What's your deal?  Stanford looking strong on offense. Little EJ Smith going to roll.

Standord Stadium going to be rockin' three weeks before classes start!

  6. Man, you guys overthink shit.  This will be like LSU-Texas, except we will make actually make one or two big plays that get us the victory.

Our lines show they youth but show some grit and we don't get blown out in the trenches.

So, fun story: I had a client rep who is native Indian -- the heavy accent, the whole thing.  One time, I was describing to him our strategy for opening argument at trial: "We're going to tell the jury every weakness we have right in our opening statement.  We will cast each of them exactly how we want, neutralize them, and steal our opponent's thunder -- they won't have any punch left for their opening."

My Indian client says 'My lawyer's going to go all 'Eminem in 8-mile,' I love it!"

Cracked me the fuck up.  Sometimes I really love this country.

    Nice.

Bruh. Biden has done a shitload. He and his administration can walk and chew gum

Bruh, just because you got shit done before doesn't mean you can't get more shit done.  The Biden actually gets things done message has started quietly but is going to go up as we near the elections, so it would help for him to have a couple of other wins to keep the message going.

  9. I saw the speech as Joe providing some food for the base, and doing a bit of venting.  I'd like to see him pivot now to just getting some shit done and pretty much ignoring Trump and letting the individual Dem candidates running this cycle use Trump and Trump's idiocy as they see fit, depending on their districts.

Yeah, I would have liked a couple of sentences along the lines of "Republicans who aren't wall eyed morons and possess some critical thinking skills are good for democracy, sort of" but no speech is perfect.

The evidence is just so goddamned overwhelming a part of my brain says there's just no way he just skates, but my logic and observation kicks in and I'm pretty sure nothing will happen.

The only thing that will cause Trump's influence to diminish is if he succumbs to health issues or if the left wing media stops covering his every move and starts covering actual, truthful news and news makers.

Everyone on this board or who has Trumpy shit coming up regularly on their apps is guilty of keeping him more relevant than he should be.

We'd all be better off if we let/encourage the DOJ do their business, and focus on the fucking midterms.  If you know someone who can vote and might not, you should already be working on them.

Elections give me a chance to contact all my millennial nieces and nephews and tell them not to waste the opportunity.

  11. Caught Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House last night.  Cary Grant is so damn great but mostly I just have a thing for Myrna Loy.  Melvyn Douglas hanging around was weird but in the great old weird buddy hanging around way that were so prevalent in older movies. movie
