  1. I'm curious as to whether there is a recognized symbol of reproductive rights in the nature of a flag or bandana (green wave(marea verde)/polish red lightening bolt) that is in common use in the US or that can be a unifying symbol to show the bearer is pro-choice. I've been too complacent to notice, if there is one.

Hmm, I actually thought his contracts class was tough, and good. Anyone remember "blinkum"?

How about another grade humblebrag...I took the contracts mid-term fully, stinking drunk... got a B.  Swore off doing that kind of thing after that though.

UT law talk not going away...

Being drunk would have likely helped my GPA.  I knew in about a month that striving for high grades would be fruitless for me.  One law school grade memory was when they posted some grades and everyone was checking out their scores, and this one woman finds her grades, and then says, loudly, "Oh my god, I think I Am Jur'd this class!".

I had no idea what "Am Jur'd" meant, but I know I suddenly understood what hate-fuck meant.

And whenever they posted after that, I would always say, loudly "Oh my God, I think I am jur'd this class!" which would make anyone within earshot who knew me chortle.

My angle here is whether this might expose Thomas to censure/impeachment a higher-tech lynching than the first high-tech lynching

Bob Hamilton is one of the worst teachers I've ever had on any level going back to kindergarten.  Granted, he was getting old at the time I took his Business Associations class (Spring 1997) and he seemed like he was mailing it in.

I had him for contracts 10 years before you had him.  I think he was mailing it in then, but he got the lesson across.  When you had William "Dub Dub" Gibson for property, any teaching standard was completely gone.

Hamilton came to class every day dressed the same way - when it was warm, he wore the short sleeve version of this shirt.  I don't remember anything from his class, but his fashion sense did rub off on me.

The founding fathers were primarily concerned with keeping theirs.  It was a rare battle between the compradors and the imperial core in which the compradors won

I saw the Compradors perform at Hemisfair Arena back in '79.

Ruling will be a win for democracy.  Some people are anti-democracy though.

Liberty should trump democracy.  When it comes to protecting liberty, I think the Founders knew well what absolutism, either in the guise of a king or a French rabble, could do to liberty.

  7. I had Lino Graglia as well.  He never got my last name right.  Essentially called me Mr. Ortega the whole class when my name is really another common spanish O-name.

Lino to me:  "I'm not sure why you did so poorly on the test.  You said some pretty bright things in class."

Had my law school reunion this last weekend and walked around campus.  I was the most average of law students, but fuck, I really did love that law school and my time there.

Nope, just going to find some deserted island in the middle of nowhere and live in blissful ignorance.

Polls have consistently found that a majority of Americans oppose overturning Roe v. Wade. In a Marquette University Law School poll from January, 72% were opposed to striking it down, while 28% were in favor

Polls were flawed.  It should have said "Are you in favor of overturning Roe v. Wade if it would make the Libs cry."

The amount of men on this board blaming RBG, Susan Sarandon, Susan Collins, and suburban moms for this is telling.  Maybe you could redirect your ire to Kavanaugh, Alito, Thomas, Gorsuch, Trump, Bush, McConnell, and the majority of men who vote GQP.

I can simplify it to anyone who votes for GQP and particularly those who don't vote against GQP.

Is there data regarding this?  In my anecdotal world, the anti-CRT candidates have generally lost.

In school boards?  I hope you are correct and I am wrong.  Maybe I'm just too damn close to Southlake.

I have very fluid and ambiguous feelings about the right to life/reproductive rights/abortion.  I am always uncomfortable discussing it, because I am not confident in what I personally believe to be correct and true.

You need to fucking get over that.

    Figure out your position.

Do I get pleasure in fetuses being killed?  Nope.  But I favor a woman's rights over a situation where Republican men and their stepford wives  make the decision.

Strikes me as a pyrrhic W for the Rs.  Say goodbye to all those swing district suburban moms you think you are going to take in the midterms because of CRT and elementary school teachers spouting gender theory instead of multiplication tables.

CRT already has done its damage.  Those folks are going to roll in all the school board elections with anti-CRT candidates.  Not enough people give a fuck.

  14. Good*.  Now we can legislate it in states that value liberty.  Maybe it will get more voters who care about liberty to vote.

We're like an alcoholic country.  We still have further to go before we get on the mend@.

    Time to rally.

*Either that or the court will find that the fetus is a person.

@Either that or they will ban alcohol.

I saw the Sorrow and the Pity before (it’s not short or trite). It really struck the point how comfortable the middle class was with nazism.  The resistance was largely farmers and communists.  I’ve seen parts of Shoah and those parts were emotionally devastating.

For clarification, Army of Shadows isn't a like Shoah or Sorrow and the Pity (which is really pretty cool).  It's a great and stylish film followed up a couple of years later by by the director's Le Samourai.  Those first two are commitments - don't think I've ever made it through Shoah.

  16. Just Kids by Patti Smith (2010)

I dug it.  She's a good writer.  Probably a bit too much in the way of dirty feet and head lice for my taste, but viva bohemia.

  17. Okay, weird bump.  Going to have a car and staying near barton springs.  Have event at Red River and 3rd at 6 pm tomorrow.  George Strait concert is tomorrow as well.  Will both probably be wanting to get out of there by 11 ish at the latest.  I think.

    1) Drive and find parking?

    2) Uber?

    3) Drive only if reserve parking ahead of time through some app?
