  1. Dunkirk (2017).  2nd viewing. I know it is a source of debate on this board, but I think it's a masterpiece.  Certainly a technical one, as if you have to add that in speaking about Nolan.

That Spitfire and its fight scenes are terrific.  Just gorgeous when it is coming down for its final landing.

Seriously, one of the worst pieces of shit I've ever had to read at any level.

You guys just need to try harder to find the humor in alleged classic fiction - Team Gene

Apologies to those of you who were home schooled or private school twats...

(Was hanging out at the coffee shop at the National Cathedral on Friday - the one next to St. Albans, down the street from Sidwell Friends.  Bunch of high school guys in there with blazers and short pants. I will admit, it looked comfy, and made me want to jostle a tree branch and make one of these dudes fall.

If I recall correctly King Alfred of Wessex, talked to him about how he would play a large part in shaping the history but would not receive credit.

That's what happens when you live your whole life in a world that is essentially 'pass/fail".

  6. Well done, but five seasons is just too long for a series like this.  And I'll admit that's on me.  Maybe it's The Wire and I've got some weird psychological wall about having trouble with great series after three seasons -- they are being reckless in trying to stretch things out.

Wanted to strangle that airhead who got everyone killed by her stupidity.  Just run into the trees, not straight down the road, you stupid wench.

  7. Oh my God I just saw Joe Biden's motorcade in DC today.  Kind of cool.  We saw his balding pate in one of the cars.  Looks like he was reading something.  I was wearing a UT slicker and was thinking if it had been Bush II he would have stopped or at least given me a hook em.

One hangs out in DC and has the feeling that the only true, deepest sin that people are committing, and that is getting in the way of progress is a simple disrespect for our government.  I don't mind someone wanting to limit government, and providing a good argument to do so, but the fucked up way the GOP is trying to fuck up the government - how can they see the history as portrayed in our DC monuments and have so little respect?

As, always, the 2nd Inaugural address on the left side of the Lincoln Memorial makes you think:

While the inaugural address was being delivered from this place devoted altogether to saving the Union without war insurgent agents were in the city seeking to destroy it without war ~ seeking to dissolve the Union and divide effects by negotiation.

I know I will get shit for this but after all these years I finally watched The French Connection.  I thought it kind of sucked.  It seemed like there were whole scenes that should have been added to make the movie flow better.  To me it doesn’t hold up like other great movies from the early 1970’s do like The Godfather 1 and 2.

Just for reference, what are the other great movies from the early 70s that hold up to The Godfathers.

its pretty easy if you follow along

king aethelwulf had a son named aethelred who married aethelfled.  shes a hottie and the cousin of aethelwold, and the aunt of aethelstan, who makes up one of the aethelings.  shes got a kid named aelfwyn, not to be confused with a nephew named aelfweird.  shes also got an uncle named aethelred who was named after her grandpa aethelred, so maybe thats a bit confusing

    Eathy for to to thay.

That Brita is a swell gal.

  10. Shang Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings (2021)

It was fine.  Any marvel movie that I can make it to the finish line is special and I made it all the way to Anderson Paak.

Wife, who likes all the Marvel shit was only mildly impressed.

  11. I'm sorry if it has been answered on the canine question.  And I apologize because any of the folks on this board who live on more than an acre probably already know the answer to this.

So there are coyotes in our area, so when our twenty pound dog  has to piss in the middle of the night, I go out with him.  To keep the coyotes away.  And we both piss.

Does the dog understand the perils that lay outside your door?   Do they learn to just stay relatively close?  Or do you go through a dog every couple of months or so?
