I have flat feet, I’m asthmatic, I have bad knees and a bum shoulder. I haven’t shot a gun since my Daisy BB gun when I was about 10 years old. The thought that if I was Ukrainian I could be forced to stay in the country and fight scares me. I could do things to help. I could cook. I could clean. I could help render medical aid. But putting me on the front line would just make me cannon fodder and would be a waste of a gun. But if I could kill just two Russian invaders before they killed me then I would die a happy man.

Yeah, it would be icing on the cake to take one out, but I'd just be happy doing the Lonesome Dove wave whenever I got sent out on patrol, just to get a chuckle out of the guys.

Did they include counseling and blankets?

Would think that charitable recommendations would include food and other services as well.  I don't think there is a link to being charitable in peacetime to a strong foreign policy.  But then again, you may think Trump is the epitome of strength.

Just thinking silly here because jets are fucking HUGE pieces of machinery, but what if they just put the things on trucks and rolled em across the border?

That's already been posed as a solution.

But what does that mean? Specifically what should the U.S. do that it already isn't doing?

Get the MiG deal straight with Poland.

At least that's what I think he was trying to get across.  He didn't express himself particularly well in that regard, so maybe my interpretation of his comments is wrong.

I heard the podcast and your interpretation seems exactly right.

Trump was objectively the worst president in American history and it's not close.  Quit crying.

Trump stepping on his infantile dick during the pandemic didn't seem to slow the development of the vaccines.

    There, I said something nice.

You don't seem to realize what it is we are doing for Ukraine. We are doing everything short of legitimately entering the war or giving putin a reason to say we directly entered the combat. We ARE doing all those things already.

I'm willing to bet that's not true.  Let's see what happens over the next two weeks, and if we do anything beyond what we are planning to do today, will you admit that you are overstating your case?

How else are we going to push harder? Shooting at them? That gets us into a war. We are putting BILLIONS worth of weapons in their hands fast as hell and we are providing all kinds of intelligence. What else do you want America to do? Invade Russia?

Agree that much of the work is going to be clandestine, so very well understand the argument that "we are doing all we can".  At this early stage I'm just not convinced that we are doing everything we can short of no fly and no troops.

Multiply what we are doing by two or three. Make it clear that we are going to replenish the stockpiles of any ally providing tactical arms to Ukraine.  Replenish the aircraft that the allies will be providing.

In short, do everything we can to kill Russian invaders short of pulling the trigger.

I'm open to any link that says we're tapped out and Ukraine says they don't need anything else.

It sounds like she is either implying that the U.S. and the West isn't helping Ukraine or dancing around a call for direct confrontation with Russia.

I think she's calling for us to get some balls and push on Putin a bit because the situation is not going to get better than it is now and we have lots to gain now, when we have the world (minus  China and North Korea and the GOP) behind us.

  10. Anyone with any suggested charities?  I just finished reading Doing Good Better so now I am all getting tied in knots on GiveWell and Charity Watch trying to find the best charities  (Give Well always tends to argue you should just give your money for mosquito netting.)

Anyway, seems like Docs Without Borders and Direct Relief might be good choices.

Loved Breathless.  Haven't seen any of the others although I need to.

Did anyone watch the biopic that Amazon put out with Kristen Stewart as Seberg?  I've been meaning to check it out.

I liked it, but it's got some problems.  And I really do think Stewart is good..  Didn't know much about the back story and after watching the movie, still don't know much about it.

It's one of my all time favorite movies. A masterpiece by a master.

    As far as Godard goes:

    1a. Breathless

    1b. Le Mepris (Contempt)

1c. Bande a part (Band of Outsiders)

    4. Pierrot Le Fou

    5. Vivre Sa Vie

    Goddard - he's difficult:

    1) Band of Outsiders

    2) Masculin Feminin

    3) Breathless

    Big dropoff

    4) Contempt

    5) Weekend

Pierrot Le Fou - have had it checked out from the library for about six months).  I've tried a number of his flicks and just can't get into them.

All I can think about is how long my wife and I, or really me and any other human being, would have made it out there in a 400 Sq foot cabin. 12 years. Holy shit dude. Talk about finding your soul mate.

Yeah.  I  was going to post "what a fucking nightmare" but I think the above is more positive so I'll go with that.

  14. Lone Star always tasted like club soda with natural and artificial metal flavor.  Which I kinda fancy.

In any case, I find it hard to imagine that surly would think that getting sick on Mickey's is more of a right of passage than a pussy move.

Surly hates wasting beer and littering in our lovely brown Texas lakes.

Have to score this one for Dennis.
