  1. Totally avoid number 1. You probably are aware that salvage titles make it difficult to get rid of later on. Also your insurance may not work.
  2. And forgot to add - can't do the carpet until I get the car back. Probably end of year so I get to do this in cold garage
  3. And more fun to come for the MGA. Otherwise known as carpet. And whatever you think you know from American cars - the British have a totally different idea. A two seat roadster has about 18 different pieces - and that is just to get to the back shelf. It doesn't cover it. Some are glued in and some use lift the dots fasteners. Of course Moss Motors sent me the pieces. You have to install the fasteners. As a very knowledgeable person on the MGA forum put it - no one includes instructions any more since you might mess up and demand a new set. The new versions of the carpet do not have sown edges - you get to trim as needed. This is totally different than my first MGA. Carpet took about half a day and a staple gun. The garage warned me that they usually needed about 15 hours to do it right. Grrrr.....
  4. Not that it is really relevant but getting a long term care policy helps a lot. Mom's paid for this.
  5. That is about what I paid Paint jobs are outrageous now. I could have gotten it cheaper back home but I really liked the idea that the body shop was a few blocks from the garage doing the work. I did not want to be in the middle after getting it back home and finding any issues. Kidded that inflation from when Dad painted it in our garage in early 80's really increased the cost. In reality everything associated with paint is different now. I like your color scheme of black and red but still partial to Iris Blue. Looking at your dash - kinda going Rainman here. Below the gas guage - is that the seldom seen washer control?
  6. and getting farther away After test driving a few times they are convinced the transmission needs new sync;s. I knew 2nd was bad but 3rd joined party. The issue is really the fact that replacement parts suck. They have to perform a bunch of basic tests on them before installing since quality is poor.
  7. Got an email today. The engine started on first try. Now doing break in for the new cam. Getting close
  8. Speaking of engines . May have posted these earlier but the engine in the MGA was a total hot mess. Don't let your car sit around for 15 years. Valve train looks a little rusty Push rods also Not supposed to see this in oil Shop rebuilt pretty much everything. Ready for paint Final painted engine
  9. I had to search but I remembered mentioning that a while back. Did not realize it was post number 3 in this mega thread
  10. While my MGA has Lucas components I am forever glad it is simple - literally two fuses for the entire car. Of course Lucas being the dark prince can still take advantage of it. On my first MGA I was heading down the interstate back to college around midnight and dark as it could be. The headlights turned off and the wipers started working for about 30 seconds and then back to headlights. I was looking around for a UFO nearby.
  11. The corporate motto for Lucas - be home before dark....
  12. and can we beat them with stick? Just heard this expression on Sirius NFL channel. Not in favor of it. A Tuddy sounds like a toy for a small child or an ice cream flavor
  13. Has anyone heard of this or anything close to it https://www.etsy.com/listing/1353511991/in-dash-fitting-classic-car-bluetooth?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=bluetooth+dash+knob&ref=sr_gallery-1-2&frs=1&sts=1&content_source=21d3a273cd3271d70177efd28f395a43e7648564%3A1353511991&organic_search_click=1 It appears to be a bluetooth audio to a phone. Very intriguing for the MGA since the fog light switch is useless. They never installed fog lights in US models. Wondering if anyone knows of something similar that would not take up dash space. I think any dash radio just will not look good
  14. The upside of wire wheels is more than offset by the work required on them. And like I mentioned - you almost have to do it yourself. I think there are some places you can send them to for restoration but that has got to be expensive - especially to ship Also yours are chrome which does look nice. Look at the unrestored MGA next to mine and you will see that they are painted some sort of grey/silver so they will never pop in terms of visuals
  15. Very happy to not have wire wheels. On my first MGA in the 80's I converted to disk wheels to avoid trying to true the wire wheels. This MGA came with disk wheels so I had no desire to change them. No idea but pretty sure there are no a lot of people left that can true them.
  16. Your nightmare is over The blue one beside is an untouched 65 year old one with 20K miles. Owner is the owner of the garage working on mine. And yes the paint is different. 65 years does a lot of changes Also the dash has been restored. getting closer
  17. Still miss Golfsmith All Vendors Day the weekend before the Masters. As a leftie I got to try out all sorts of clubs from all the big vendors. Bought multiple clubs and sets from Golfsmith because of it.
  18. Pretty sure they changed the law but in the 90's you could not buy cold beer in stores. Only room temperature. Guess they finally figured out that college students knew what ice was.
  19. any flag thrown five seconds after a play should be rejected
  20. Remember some team (Denver??) had vertical stripes on socks. Looked like barber poles
  21. Yeah - ran into huge number of them a few years ago in Seattle airport. They travel well
  22. Don't you enjoy train wrecks
  23. here ya go. Of course this was one of the "before" pictures
