  1. As long as big hits and names. The name is John Ruud and probably no one remembers him. However anyone who watched the Nebraska/OU game in 78 will forget his hit. Best video I could find has more content - go to 1:20 mark. I literally thought Kelly Phelps was dead on the field. They had one replay where you see his back expand backwards in shape of a helmet. basically Rudd got a 40 yard run and was untouched. Even more crazy was the refs ruling his "forward progress" had stopped before the fumble. Technically correct but a horrible call
  2. Used to carry multiple sweat bands on long road rides. For some reason my sweat poured only in the right eye but yep it was blinding.
  3. I may be wrong but IIIRC the officials had them move the cart and then the idiots moved it back later.
  4. This is better than the comedy channel
  5. Thanks for the link. I know I can get another brand but I also know that some of the other ones don't work very well. The first one I tried was the OEM Toyota one. Went down Parmer from McNeil to MoPac and pulled over to take it off. Literally thought the hood was going to detach from the shaking it caused.
  6. I remember getting them in mid 80's in Grapevine. Nice restaurant that used to be a house. Just remember going down a street and turning left at Harley dealership.
  7. Before moving I bought a ton of clubs there. Especially when you could pick them up locally. The some doofus decided golfers were a security risk and made locals use UPS to ship trade ins. Once I was in the area and dropped the club off at UPS main site - which is literally across the street from Callaway pre owned. Told em this is probably the shortest delivery you will ever make
  8. look up Tom McMillan - Rhodes scholar and Congressman
  9. Except its for a 2001 4Runner and unobtainable. Got 20 years out of it (10 years and warranty replacement for 10 more) so can't complain - just don't want to have to find another vendor if possible. At some point they quit making them for older vehicles
  10. interesting idea. May have to refinish it anyhow. The contractor who took it off Mom's house stored it in garage and somehow the shellac varnish coat started pealing. No clue why because it is marine varnish but I still may have to strip and stain again.
  11. Acrylic bug deflector on 4Runner has a crack going vertical on the deflector. About 2 inches on the 3 inch height. Any suggestions on a good epoxy or other type glue to keep it from spreading - obviously it must able to flex some while driving.
  12. Wooden front door on my house is fine. However Mom sold her house when she moved into retirment community and new owner is pretty much renovating everything so her old front door is now in my garage. It's about 60 years old and 200 pounds of old oak. She paid several hundred 30 years ago and then had it custom made so no matter what I have - it's an upgrade and it keeps it in the family. Problem is the height. My current one is 80 and this one is 79.25. How much of an issue am I getting in here. I have a general contractor doing some other work and I hope we can find a way to make it fit for obvious reasons. Is it easier to just raise the entrance threshold or should I try to lower the top threshold. Or just screw it and build a whole new frame?
  13. I do like that lots of other 70's colors. Wish they brought more back. Some options, however should stay in 70's. Good friend I ran track with had his Dad's flaming yellow Cuda with the flower power mod top. No way to claim what ever you were caught doing was someone else in the same car. Probably only one of that option in entire state
  14. Not to show my age but in the late 70's I remember seeing newspaper ads for 65-67 Mustangs - average about 500 bucks. Always wondered what the details were - wondering if any had a 390 at that price or just 6 cylinders and the "economy 289"
  15. had that happen back in the late 80's with mercruiser I/O. Had just finished a ski run and a buddy that was driving said "engines making a funny sound". Bearings were just toast somewhere in lower unit
  16. It has - late 80's mail bomb killed Judge Vance in Birmingham
  17. A couple of years I learned one of the automotive WTH's. The Amphicar - which was an pretty cool project - make a car that runs on land and on water. Guess who they chose for electronics - yep Lucas. Nothing wrong with electricity and water.. Also heard LBJ had one on his ranch and would scare by flying down a hill toward a lake yelling No Brakes and then plow into the water. In college my MGA with Lucas decided it was time to try and light the car on fire at lunch. Arced the starter switch which was a big box in engine compartment. The equivalent of arc welding until the battery ran down. Melted part of wiring harness - had to patch it and crank start the car until a new switch arrived.
  18. Yep - Lucas company motto - be home before dark...

I'll go retro - proud to have my 40 year old Craftsman sockets and wrenches. Still trying to recover my Dad's 60 year old stuff from brothers garage. No cheap stuff here
  20. Considering how much money is going to come in with new TV contracts and gambling - that contract might turn out to be a little low in 3 years
  21. Actually I guess I should pos rep to balance it out. Not to threadjack but I have run into the same body shape/type wearing Alabama gear who felt compelled to comment to me.
  22. Used one to ship the MGA to Michigan. A few thoughts 1. Covered is much better than non 2. Drivers were fine - scheduler not so much. I know they have to make a profit but every time they confirmed a pickup or dropoff time then the scheduler found another job "nearby" and since those trucks hold multiple vehicles - off they went. Take any confirmed time as an estimate at best and plan accordingly. Delivery early in the morning was after 5 in afternoon.
  23. I am going to throw this out and then duck and cover. I know Texas was number 2 and undefeated but, based on what happened in the Orange Bowl, does anyone have doubts that Texas would have been MNC if they had won. The entire media circus was devoted to pushing Nebraska/Miami as the MNC game and they jumped to number 1 from around 6 after winning. I could see an undefeated Texas suffering the same jump. Not going to say it was absolute but the possibility exists since the NBC media machine spent an entire month convincing writers that the Orange Bowl was it. And I'm still mad about that season. Auburn lost to Texas and played something like 6 teams in top 10 while Miami lost badly to Florida. At number 3 we had a better case for being MNC than anyone else that year after 1 and 2 lost. Nebraska was nothing but hype since they opened with a huge win over Penn State (defending MNC) and played no one else.
  24. Actually found one on ebay. 600 bucks - unfortunately it is in Italy so pass....
