  1. I don't know how many of their problems are strictly NIL related. Their defense is fine and they have talented players there. And they are well coached for the most part on that side of the ball. They just took a blowtorch to entire offensive side of the ball. I don't know if it was a poor allocation of NIL resources or just a complete fuck up self-evaluating their talent. They did more to screw over their QB position this offseason than Lincoln Riley ever did. They had a whole year to look at Jackson Arnold and decided to hitch their wagon to him instead of doing whatever they needed to keep Gabriel or add some depth in the portal. The offensive line room was horribly, grossly mismanaged. Their best RB from last year is now tearing it up at Wisconsin. He was a fucking walk-on. Did Wisconsin money whip him or did OU just never offer him a scholarship? I honestly don't know. I give them a bit of a pass on WR because of the injuries, but it's not like Pettaway and Thompson weren't good enough to get scholarships from Texas.
  2. Castle and Wesley are going to be fun to watch on defense if/when Pop plays them together and turns them loose, especially with Wemby on the floor behind them. They are going to get after it. Also Castle is going to shoot an insane number of free throws especially for a rookie and especially for a guard. I’m enamored with him so far. Absolute stud.
  3. Is this really happening before they do something about the playoff bids / auto-seeding? Why let the ACC and Big 12 skate by with bullshit non-conference schedules and have the Big10 and SEC rack up another loss that could potentially knock a team out of playoff contention.
  4. Boy next year’s LB crew with another year of experience for Hill and Lefau, and letting Tyanthony Smith marinate a little, is going to be the best Texas LB group I can remember.
  5. This whole thing is rather great. They are just despondent.
  6. I figured this topic would show up on Surly soon enough and yes... this is hitting super close to home on multiple levels. I went to high school with Suzanne's sister who is legitimately batshit crazy now. My son is friends with Chelsea (the daughter) and one of his really good friend's step sister is her closest friend. Shit, I dropped a group of kids off at their house for a grad party just a few months ago. I didn't realize Britt Kleber was Brad's sister, though. We know her fairly well, too, both through kids and some other social bullshit. All of this is some really fucked puro San Antonio/Alamo Heights incestual shit. I sweatergawd, this town is closer to being Mayberry than a real city.
  7. I just can't put too much stock in what Georgia did against MSU. They got complacent with a lead and let a bad team make a game closer than it should have been. They still put up 600 yards of offense on them. They also got caught off guard by a young running QB who Lebby let open it up in the passing game, and none of that was on film. And let's face it, that was a bit of a trap/sandwich game before coming to Austin and after playing a rival in Auburn. I'm curious to see what happens with the injuries on their offensive line this week. Getting Ratledge and their center back should be a big deal for them. Right now they are 13th in the conference in rushing yards/game, which should never happen with their talent on the line and at RB. If we can make them one dimensional, they don't have game breakers at WR and for once I have faith in the secondary to not get torched. Regardless, we are going to get their A game and that team is still very talented. Their backs are up against the wall a bit. They lose this week and it's more likely than not that every game on the rest of their schedule is an elimination game.
  8. Thank god I didn’t wait in that shit and went around the corner to the other gate but there is zero excuse for this to ever happen.
  9. To Venables credit, they certainly didn’t leave any doubt about their team yesterday. Everybody knows exactly who they are.
  10. I started this got dam thread and I’m not quite sure how we got from “can you please bring enough bottled water so people don’t stroke out in the stands” and “maybe having more than three assholes checking your e-ticket at each gate would be a good idea” to let’s move the game to Arlington and/ or stop being a pussy and suck it up. But here we are.
  11. It’s nice to see they’ve made so much progress since I originally posted this 3 years ago.
  12. It bottles the mind that someone who isn’t going to the game would decide to go to the state fair during TX/OU. Who thinks, “You know what would be fun? Being in the worlds biggest clusterfuck and waiting in line for an hour to eat some deep fried shit while it’s 95 degrees outside. And let’s bring the newborn while we’re at it!” It’s like Darwins fucking waiting room around there. I used to love the fair back in the day. Now it’s a serious burden. I dread trying to navigate it. Getting into the stadium is a nightmare. It’s like they purposely set it up to be as big of a choke point as possible. Maybe it gets better when the reno is done but they just seem so incompetent at everything.
  13. PK getting too much credit here. Fat Gare is the real genius behind the defense.
  14. Each TX/OU game is completely its own animal. Below are the 8 games this century that had double digit point spreads. Twice Texas has won outright (in bold) as a dog and covered four more times. That's 6/8 for those of you keeping score at home. This game is generally played closer than what is expected. I can't see any reason that we don't beat the living piss out of them, but I have seen too much shit go down in that stadium. And fuck this being the first time in almost 20 years that we are a double digit favorite against those assholes. 2019 -- Oklahoma 34, Texas 27 (point spread: Oklahoma -10.5) 2016 -- Oklahoma 45, Texas 40 (point spread: Oklahoma -13.5) 2015 -- Texas 24, Oklahoma 17 (point spread: Oklahoma -16.5) 2014 -- Oklahoma 31, Texas 26 (point spread: Oklahoma -16.5) 2013 -- Texas 36, Oklahoma 20 (point spread: Oklahoma -13.5) 2011 -- Oklahoma 55, Texas 17 (point spread: Oklahoma -11) 2007 -- Oklahoma 28, Texas 21 (point spread: Oklahoma -12) 2005 -- Texas 45, Oklahoma 12 (point spread: Texas -14)
  15. He can shot put it out of his asshole for all I care if it goes in the basket, but he went from 25% to 31%. Not exactly Steph Curry territory. That ain't even Malaki Branham territory. And he's wide ass open because nobody is even bothering to go out there and stick a hand in his face.
  16. Agreed. The last few years guys like he and Keldon have been forced to take on too much. Back in the day, they would have slotted into a nice little complementary role around the Big 3. Instead they've had to be the lead dog and I don't think it's benefitted them at all. Sochan's role needs to be hustle guy, defensive glue guy, instigator, dunker spot, and get garbage points on putbacks. And he needs to bring energy every night. The dream (for me at least) is pink haired Draymond minus the bullshit, but I don't think he has the IQ for it. I didn't see the few 3's that he's launched so far in preseason so I have no idea if his form has gotten any better. But I have little faith in his becoming even a serviceable three point shooter. That sidespin shit is so, so broken.
  17. And with a worse offensive line. But I do think Hawkins is still better at QB than anything Michigan has trotted out there so far.
  18. Like the frog said, Sochan was better tonight. The game is easier for him in a supporting role maybe? And I’ve seen nothing to dissuade me from my pre-draft opinion that Castle was the best player in the draft. He’s going to be a beast. Impressive how he got to the line tonight. He’s got a real physical presence to him. The three ball looked nice too. If he is even league average from there, look the fuck out. Victor needs to take better care of the ball. I’m okay with a lot of his bad shot selection, but minimizing the careless turnovers would go a long way towards playing winning basketball.
  19. Kermit hit on a part of it with the indecisiveness, but half the time I watch him on both ends and wonder what the hell he is thinking. It doesn't always make basketball sense to me where he goes on the court. Maybe he anticipates poorly? It could be that the failed point guard experiment fucked with him so hard that he's overthinking everything? I dunno. I'll try to watch some tonight and see if I can define it better.
  20. I was more confident last year going into the RRS than any I can remember. After attending 30+ of these in person, you would think I would know better. As brutal as the QE turnovers were, the defense really shit the bed. Gabriel killed us time and again with his scrambling, Ran for 100+ that day when he only ran for something like 350 yards total the entire season. And then the secondary breakdowns on that last drive were just gut wrenching. So many self-inflicted wounds. This team should have a really bad taste in their mouth from last year. I know I do.
  21. It's an obvious mismatch on paper. There's a reason for the two touchdown point spread. They are an injury riddled disaster on offense being helmed by a true freshman QB behind a patchwork offensive line. They are beat up in the secondary but have an otherwise pretty formidable defense. We are fucking loaded with the best offensive line we've had in a generation, have a 4th year first round draft pick at QB, and weapons galore at the skill positions. The defense looks as solid as it has been in years. We should mudhole these mouth breathers into bolivian. But that means fuck all in this game. 8 out of the last 9 of these have been one score games, and we've trotted out some of the worst Texas teams in history over that timespan. Trying to apply logic to something that is so inherently illogical as TX/OU is a fool's errand.
  22. NBA annual GM survey https://www.nba.com/news/2024-25-nba-gm-survey Nothing really earth shattering in there, but always interesting nonetheless.
  23. Gotcha. I thought you were talking about aggressive play calling vs. starting a freshman. Point well taken. Regardless, we can all agree that Mack Brown was a huge gaping vagina every second Saturday in October.
  24. I dunno about that. That pass was a simple screen to a WR, who then blew past two Sooners who played it about as poorly as they could have. I still have PTSD from Greg Davis starting out the game with three of those that blew up directly in his face.
  25. Did I ever tell you guys about the time I was going to rehab in College Station but I got lost and couldn’t find the clinic?
