The spurs fucked them. None of the Atlanta picks. None of the core players. The Charlotte pick which won’t convey. The bulls pick which is unlikely to convey. They do give up an unprotected 2027 pick and the Minnesota pick. So basically they gave up two first rounders for Fox.

I like AD, but god damn, there are only two teams (Denver and San Antonio) in the league that wouldn't entertain a superstar swap for Luka.
Milwaukee too. I don’t know that OKC would bite either.

Also the nba can extract billions for an expansion franchise in Vegas. The other owners get shit if they move one there. That makes zero sense to me that this is their long game.

Ignoring for a minute that you never trade a 25 year old superstar under any circumstance unless he demands it, the return is egregious. They should have gutted the Lakers for every asset they had short of Jerry Buss’s toupee. They got one lousy first round pick. No Reaves. No Knecht. No swaps. Nada. Awful. They surely could have gotten a better return by opening up the process. And the Mavs themselves have mortgaged a lot of picks down the road to win now. They could have restocked all of that.
And of course it’s the Lakers because that’s how this always happens. Wilt, Kareem, Shaq, Kobe, LeBron.
The whole thing is just unbelievable.

No Wemby but this has turned into a fun game.

Man we’ve come a long way from having 90% Texas kids on the roster. Where is the outrage from the txhs football coaches?

The Rockets are 32-14.
The Grizzlies are 31-16.
Is anyone ready to hold our front office accountable yet?
The rockets had three straight years of 17-22 wins directly after blowing it up with the Harden trade, which netted them pick 2, 3, and 4 and then 3 (from Brooklyn via Harden trade) in successive drafts along with a bevy of other first round picks. They busted on guys like Garuda, Josh Christopher, Ty Ty Washington. Hell, Jalen Green looked like a bust as recently as last season. Sengun was a spurs fuck up but do they get Wemby if they make that pick instead of Primo? Sliding doors and all.
Regardless, Houston is rightfully ahead of the Spurs schedule. They started their true rebuild two years ahead. Memphis drafted Ja and JJJ in successive drafts, 6 years ago, that is the core of their team. They are vets now. They’ve done a great job finding guys late like Bane and their recent drafts have been great but they are on a different timeline than the Spurs.
This thing is going to take some patience, regardless of how ridiculous Wemby is. He’s still only in year 2. Castle is a rookie and showing more every night. Getting Fox would obviously accelerate the timeline but this team is going to be contending a lot sooner than later. They need more vets and shooters, but they aren’t that far off.

We still haven’t addressed the kicker issue. Helobius needs to get to work.

Tough ending but the fight was there. It needs to be there more consistently. And the horrible execution down the stretch didn’t help. There’s no spacing with Sochan and Castle on the floor at the same time.

Anybody else remember Kelee Ringo spending his spring break in Austin only to sign with Georgia? We aren’t even close to squaring the account with those bag dropping assholes. I really hope the adjustment for those cheating dickbags to their new station in life is as painful as possible.

Sac can have anyone but Castle as far as I'm concerned. I imagine Vasell and picks gets it done. Unless Houston comes in with a godfather offer, who else is chasing him? Orlando maybe? Fox is an upgrade over Suggs but he seems integral to their core. Unless I'm missing something, the other likely destinations either already have a pg or don't have assets.

Oyster spots in Uptown or Garden District?
Google hunting gave me Cooter Brown's at the west end of St Charles. Looks like my kind of place, but I'm sure there's plenty of other places around town too.
Getting in Wednesday around 1. Ready to be childless and out of the cold (of course it's going to be unseasonably warm up here while we're gone) for a few days.
The oyster bar in Pascal Manales. Eat oysters while you wait for a table and then eat the bbq shrimp once you are seated.

I don't get the fascination with Tate. I wouldn't pay $1M+ for him and hope Texas isn't involved.
Agreed. I never really thought much of him other than, "Oh hey, look how wide ass open he is again because everybody is covering Smith and Egbuka."
Another veteran portal WR in the Spring window would be nice insurance, though. I don't have as much faith in the guys we haven't seen yet or the true freshmen. It seemed over the top that they took three portal WR last year but Sark seems to have a thing for WRs.

It’s definitely not unethical but it feels smarmy, especially when they do shit like not let him pick the games he’s announcing on game day. They purport themselves as unbiased journalists but it’s clearly far from the case.
I don’t think it’s a big deal if they just owned it. I’ve thought for years that they should have a play by play guy and then a die hard but extremely knowledgeable fan from each team in the booth. I think it would add so much passion to the game while also having the potential for ridiculous amounts of humor and schadenfreude.

Bobby has said he has spoken to Ohio St NIL people and their budget for next year is 30 million.
Even if that is accurate, spending 1/6 of your total budget on a single WR -- no matter how great he is -- seems a bit out of whack. Retaining Downs isn't going to be cheap. They already went into the portal for RB, TE and OT. Maybe they don't have to pay as much for roster retention because they lose so many multi-year starters and the backups are less expensive? I have no idea but whatever they do, I hope it blows up in their face.
-
So Ohio State had a reported $20 million budget for their entire roster last year and Smith is getting $5 million next year? That seems insane to me proportionately, unless there are other non-collective generated funds contributing to that $5 million number.

I haven’t done a deep dive on that trade, but unless I’m grossly mistaken, that’s a disingenuous take. Utah has a ton of young players and they can’t fit three first round picks per year on their roster. They don’t have the developmental throughput. The 2025 Cavs pick is going to be among the worst frp clearly. Going forward though, it’s not just the Cavs pick, it’s the worst frp among the Cavs, Jazz or Twolves picks. If the Cavs have a bad year, Utah will still use their pick.
That’s a great trade for Utah. They can’t use them all and they take a flyer on the Suns being really bad a few years down the road. Which based on their current ownership seems like a pretty good bet. It’s a good thing their owner is in the mortgage business because he’s mortgaged the hell out of their future.
You’re going to see more and more of these types of trades from the teams like SA, OKC, Utah and Brooklyn that have stockpiled so many future picks. They have to keep pushing them down the road.

I went with a big group and we stayed at Casa Querencia. It was amazing.

The fun thing about the expanded playoff is that you can just enjoy a competitive early season nonconference game for what it is and not worry that your chances for a championship have tanked before you play a down of football in conference.
It surely doesn’t have the high stakes like the 4 or 2 team playoff, but the way the committee treated losses this year still gives this game some gravitas. If Texas or OSU gets left out with three losses, you can say goodbye to these heavyweight non conference matchups. It would be horrible for the sport, but why play them if the risk is so much greater than the reward?

Johnny Dawkins, too.
I'll never forget the day Johnny Dawkins got drafted. He wanted to go so badly to the Bulls and play with MJ, and they picked Brad Sellers in the slot directly before the Spurs were up. Right after the Sellers pick, you could see him shake his head and mouth, "Oh shit. San Antonio is next." He knew what was about to go down. Of course, that moutherfucker's career got sideswiped with the freakiest injury ever -- nerve damage after icing down his leg too long that made him lose control of his foot. I still think he was faking it to get the hell out SA.

Castle is going to compete on the all star duck contest. I can't remember a Spurs player ever participating before.
What? You don't remember Edgar Jones? The Wild Helicopter? He was one of my all time favorite Spurs. He had like four teeth. He would smile and it would look like he was certifiably insane, which was also exactly the way he played. He would try to dunk everything and block everything, consequences be damned.
Or Cadillac Anderson? He was one of my least favorite Spurs. He had maybe the worst hands of anyone who ever wore the black and silver.

Rough night. I think this team is due for a market correction on their record. I hope I’m wrong but they’ve had a home heavy schedule and a negative overall point differential. I think they’re a bit due to rack up some L’s. Ending up in the lottery again wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.
I hate it when I'm right sometimes, but the signs have been there for a few weeks.
The schedule has gotten tougher and not so coincidentally, their defense has gotten worse. 1-6 in the last 7, and they've given up 122 (in OT), 114, 121, 129, 140 and 128. They can't play at a fast pace and win. They don't shoot it well enough. They are also getting killed in transition off long threes. They need to grind it out on defense and run clock on offense and take efficient shots to win, and they aren't playing like that. Honestly and disappointingly, they look a lot like last year's team.
Maybe a few days in Paris will fix them, playing against Indiana who plays as fast or faster than anyone else in the league. Yeah, good luck with that.
If this shit continues through the rodeo, Victor may have to come down with a sprained armpit or gluteal stiffness for a few weeks and just hop into the tank. I hate to be that guy but...

I'm holding my nose and rooting for Ohio State.
The last thing I want is Notre Dame truly returning to the national stage, coming into Texas for recruits, and having their mythology shoved down our throats for the foreseeable future. And believe me, their Touchdown Jesus / holier than thou / higher admissions standards / divine right / win one for the Gipper bullshit is the absolute worst in all of college football. And while I do like Freeman, I don't like him enough to endure that shit again. It was awful to listen to that crap in the 1980s. They were Duke basketball on steroids of college football. If they lose again, and hopefully in embarrassing fashion, they revert to their current status as an afterthought who can't really match up athletically and a product of a weak schedule and injuries to their opponents (i.e., Carson Beck).
On the other hand, an Ohio State win doesn't really change much. They are what they are, no matter what happens tonight. I mean, fuck those guys and their fans, but they are still going to be a top 5 program win or lose. And maybe a blowout makes us look better as the clear second best team in the nation, for whatever that is worth.... which ain't much.

lol they didn’t even give sac their own swap back. It’s basically two frp and they got to unload Collins and his bad contract for one of the top 30 players in the league.
