  1. Wouldn't know about that except that Dell/EMC/VMware all have a) below average reputations in the high tech sales world as candidates/sales people and b) they have flooded the market trying to leave those companies the past 12-18 months. I'm not sure why that is, maybe you know? Leadership? Comp? I know hardware and hypervisor crap is all commodity now, maybe that's it?
  2. Not as you suggest, but in the vein I responded to ychang withā€” entry level roles in and within big corporate machines and hegemony in the white collar space.
  3. I agree with this. Going to need some injury luck, I think.
  4. I'm sure to achieve the same roles and responsibilities that you have now, you a degreed professional in what I'll assume is middle age, would not be possible without a degree or a ton of unique experience. But is that what we are talking about? We are talking about entry level jobs that pay $55k versus the $255k degree you financed to get the job. In a lot of companies like Apple (really any F1000) there are avenues to have your employer help pay for you to get your check-box degree, as they are investing in you to get to those next rungs in the career and company that need a generic business degree from a generic school because it's simply a gate.
  5. To be fair you were being very absolutist with the "a degree is absolutely necessary", so you'll see anecdotes in response.
  6. Also, at least in STEM/Tech, the perception has changed. People know that if you went to Stanford or Carnegie Mellon or something like that, then okay. But if you went to Texas State and got an economics or psychology degree, do you really need that to be an entry level marketing or sales or entry level analyst? Most tech and business skills are accreted through experience and "upskilling" as you get more experience, which happens on the job. "Apple CEO Tim Cook even said in 2019 that about half of Apple's US employment last year was made up of people who did not have a four-year degree. Google, Apple, and IBM are among the companies that don't require a college degree for certain positions, according to Glassdoor." "Elon Musk said a college degree isn't required for a job at Tesla" Granted with tech, you need foundational technical skills and knowledge, but nerds get that stuff tinkering and doing and as autodidactics anyways, they don't need Intro to Computer Science at big average and expensive state school. This is why if you can do bootcamps and certs and stuff you can get around having a degree.
  7. PHX without booker vs DAL gonna be fun!
  8. Look. Nobody, beyond theory, would be upset or mad at: 1) reform that allows student loans to be discharged by traditional bankruptcy and 2) $10k loan forgiveness for all who need or want it This is as bipartisan as itā€™s gonna get so letā€™s do it and move on to legalizing weed.
  9. What was that running to the wall thing with Kenny all about? Iā€™m so old and confused.
  10. The one thing I hadnā€™t thought of that Fatty brought up that rings sympathetic to me is not the ones who paid their loans off and donā€™t get a rebate (like yā€™all, I paid my wifeā€™s loans who doesnā€™t even work and likely will never even use her degree and donā€™t begrudge it), but actually the ones who did the math and determined they couldnā€™t responsibly take out a $100k loan for an economics degree or signed up for the military for the free college after 4 years and might or might not have lost a leg or something. They might have missed out on $10-50k in help, in hindsight by being austere and responsible.
  11. This page is pure phantasmagoria. I love it.
  12. The article I was reading said this below, and had a hyperlink to the fuller argument, which I've copied and pasted here (https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/06/business/economy/student-loan-pause-inflation.html) if you want to read up on why/how people are saying inflation can be impacted or exacerbated. Personally I thought homeboy had a good reply and it makes logical sense to me that the impact on inflation would be negligible because Americans are Americans, meaning they are already pumping their student loan payment into the economy instead of saving it and so this forgiveness would be baked into the inflation statistics already more or less: A recent Morning Consult poll found that more than 60 percent of registered voters were in favor of some level of student debt cancellation. But despite Mr. Bidenā€™s campaign promise, his advisers have been divided, three people with knowledge of the discussions said. Some view debt cancellation as relief for critical constituencies, said the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. Others oppose it as bad policy or because they fear the economic effects of putting more money in consumersā€™ pockets when inflation is soaring.
  13. You can't discharge in bankruptcy. Which should be the first lever that gets pulled on this topic and I think would have 99% agreement on this website. Otherwise, I have a nit of @Eastwood. I think this is an opinion, and a wrong one at that, which fails the entire point being made: Also another nit @RomaVicta: "gypped" is problematic, at best, and a slur at worst. Let's say "cheated" or some other word.
  14. The first domino dropped today? The Biden administration is canceling the student loans of 28,000 student borrowers who attended a chain of cosmetology schools that no longer exists. Any student who borrowed money to attend the Marinello Schools of Beauty between 2009 and 2016 is eligible for the relief, which totals $238 million. It's the latest move by the Biden administration "to address the politically charged issue of student-debt forgiveness," says The Wall Street Journal. Around 40 million people in the U.S. have student loan debt. https://www.wsj.com/articles/biden-to-forgive-238-million-in-cosmetology-school-student-loans-11651140001?
  15. I only have grad school (federal) loans left. $10k won't pay them all, but I'll sure take the help and I hope they won't be means tested.
  16. Tell me you donā€™t have kids and/or havenā€™t seen Shrek without telling me you donā€™t have kids/havenā€™t seen Shrek.
  17. Good points, all around. Iā€™m sold letā€™s do it!
  18. Matthew Stafford shaved his playoff beard!
