  1. I think you've hit the nail on the head with what is being decided. I personally think Musk is being a weasel and would love to see Twitter's BoD nail him to the wall and force him to swallow this frog, but as I stated when this first happened, I can see Musk throwing weight around and obfuscating with a myriad of delay tactics and his deep pockets, in order to renegotiate a better deal, at worst. To the point of him having resources that are good at creating issues out of mid-air, let's see if this sticks (quoted below), but it's worth noting his high-powered lawyers are doing a good job with the best they can do to make this messier than it need be, it sounds like:
  2. Why does she write her "T's" like that?
  3. I'm not so sure that the "market largely excludes consideration of customers, employees and stakeholders" as you suggest. At least it's not so cut-and-dried as that. These things are always baked into valuations and theses. Anyways, to Elon Trial news:
  4. You are a legend in my eyes.
  5. What's the update on the OG El Chapo? I am surprised he hasn't broken out with that tunneling stuff again.
  6. Exactly. They actually probably would have been sued by shareholders if they didn’t accept the Musk deal based on the value because the current leadership has shown no path to getting the valuation up to the premium it was offered by Musk. In fact, it’s the main reason the board of directors exists for that sort of fiduciary management and duty. Shareholder value is priority one and that’s not necessarily a bad thing with balance.
  7. Yep. He's saying the quiet part outloud which is, "this is politics to me".
  8. I agree with this as of today. As we’ve been saying though, two years is a lifetime in politics and the landscape can change dramatically.
  9. “Talks are also likely to start churning on a potential tax extenders package to salvage the existing subsidies for clean power. But that would require the cooperation of Republicans, an unlikely prospect. “It’s hard for me to see much incentive to help save Democrats from themselves so close to the election,” said Sen. Kevin Cramer of North Dakota, a Republican who took part in bipartisan discussions on energy and climate policy with Manchin earlier this year. Climate activists are also pressing Biden to expand his use of executive action and to close the door on fossil fuel projects, such as ConocoPhillips' Willow oil project in Alaska and plans for a new offshore drilling program, which both had emerged as potential trade-offs for Manchin’s support.”
  10. Have to admit this has missed me-- I'll have to put in our radar and rotation. It's Disney+ I assume?
  11. Watching cinema and art is great, but have you guys ever seen the Disney trilogy Zombies? That's right, Zombies 3 dropped today on Disney + and it's a banger. Must see TV. If you thought the Zombies integrating into Seabrook in Zombies 1 was great and then the Wolves and Zombies coming together to find their differences aren't enough to keep them apart, then just wait until you see what happens when extraterrestrials take over the Cheer Competition!
  12. This guy is 100% a Surly poster.
  13. The idea of Joe Manchin is why there was why Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton could never get along.
  14. If you guys pay attention to venture capital data-- the biggest deals in start-ups recently are all in a) battery tech and b) EV tech (charging, etc.) Most recent example from last week: NORTHVOLT VW and Goldman-backed battery maker Northvolt gets $1.1B funding injection CNBC, July 6, 2022 Northvolt's announcement comes at a time when European economies are laying out plans to move away from vehicles that use diesel gasoline. Northvolt announced the funding boost, with a range of investors taking part in the capital raise.
  15. Can someone explain how or why Monkeybox is getting a "gay disease" reputation? This is the worst thing that can happen because you'll have people relax or not worry about it if they don't participate in that lifestyle, and then you get an AIDs epidemic all over again. It's like we never learn from anything.
  16. I read an interesting stat today about EV's and them being at a tipping point, which means if it's true, then the market will be flooded with MVP-tech-demo level vehicles. I personally think Tesla's are fine cars, just as reliable and quality as anything any legacy manufacturer puts out, so it's not a problem: Also, Pilot Flying J announced a partnership with GM yesterday to add EV charging that would increase the number of fast chargers available in the US by 20% while Biden is dolling out $7.5 billion to states to build out EV charging infrastruture. The EV future is here more or less, IMO.
  17. It's become a tight rope for sure. You want to be vaguely "outspoken" about things that are popular while also not being too alienating because as MJ famously said, "Republicans buy shoes, too".
  18. Look, in my opinion what the Bachelor is trying to do is noble. I think their heart (insomuch as a a blood-sucking tv show business can have a heart outside of driving eyeballs) is in the right place. That said, it does seem like these things tend to backfire. Partly because 1) It's bad business (the consumers mainly driving your business are not the audience and sometimes there are unintended effects that drive your core business away-- like what happened with Old Navy*** and potentially here if vapid beautiful people don't want to be lied to about how fat people are just as attractive as they are and it feels scripted), and 2) Sometimes it's a solution in search of a problem. Especially when the science (to say nothing of the eyeball test) is inconclusive on if the underlying premise is even true. In this case if being fat and embracing the body positivity of being fat is healthy and good for people. ***Old Navy for those who missed it*** Old Navy went all in on the plus size stuff and spent a ton of money redesigning stores, clothing and mannequins and rolled out all clothing styles in sizes 0–30 and XS–4X. The CEO of Gap Inc., Old Navy’s parent company, called it the “largest integrated launch” in Old Navy’s history and an “important growth driver for…years to come.” But Old Navy’s inclusive push apparently didn’t include any regard for sales. In fact the core business user was upset because the "average size clothes" were always sold out leaving the XS an XLL stuff. https://www.wsj.com/podcasts/the-journal/old-navy-tried-to-make-sizes-for-all-it-backfired/98cd958d-fdfa-40b4-ae75-cc2d9a39ad92
  19. I was today years old when I learned Desantis is only 43. He looks 63 to me. That Florida sun really wears people out. That said, it would be better to sideline a "young" and smarter Trump like Desantis who could run things for 40+ years if Trump/Biden is any indication with age, so in a perverse way, it might be better to hope for an 80+ year old Trump in 2024.
  20. I had the same thought and response-- how to empathize, with a droll or rage? Sucks that just goes to show you with AID's-- you really are just treating symptoms mostly because to get to true remission feels like it's a matter of winning a genetic lottery ticket of luck.
  21. Two years is a lifetime in politics. This could be a long forgotten memory by 2024.
  22. Disagree. Would rather have a job and high prices than not have a job and have moderate prices, in the short term.
