  1. It’s what we in the business call “executive presence”. Remember he went to a finishing school (McK).
  2. I might be old but I can still recognize an NFT joke at my GenX expense
  3. There used to be 18+ dance clubs (the Italian friend will recognize a younger discotheque) where 18-19-20 year olds would go to get sweaty dancing all night. Do those places no longer exist? Lizard lounge was also a place 18 year olds would go.
  4. You think? I think our BIPOC friends and family will be heartbroken to find out the opposite, that a white, young, smart, man who looks like he could pass as cisgender and straight, would be a lot less hated for who he is. Of course that’s not to say the gay jokes and slurs and hateful language in Locker rooms and bar rooms won’t go to the moon.
  5. Trick question; I've never flown on a good airline.
  6. Yes. Posted on the wrong thread probably, but to repost: Rise, the Disney + Giannis Antetokounmpo biopic. Really good, really schmaltzy, but also family friendly with a good message and story. 10/10 for family movie nights with tween kids or young basketball fans.
  7. Is your post laying the ground for an argument that airlines and the airline travel industry is a public good or utility? What is interesting is the DOJ/anti-trust fears influencing what is going on with Frontier trying to buy Spirit (and Jet Blue getting into it) and slowing or stopping M&A, if the thesis is that consolidation is good for the industry to be self-sufficient.
  8. Speaking of socialism for capitalist, is there a thread talking specifically about the CHIPS bill and the semiconductor money? I'd like to read the reasoned discussion, with a political angle, on that.
  9. The two things that should be slam dunks are for some reason the hardest for Biden to move on: (a min. of) $10k student loan forgiveness and a federal legalization (or a min. of decriminalization) of marijuana. Is it because he's an old white guy with the attendant baggage of being a white male who lived and participated in the white male culture of the 50's and such?

  11. Agree and anytime the "Pelosi is awesome and should be speaker of the house" titled thread is bumped I cringe to death, with the benefit of hindsight.
  12. I think if Pete keeps getting exposure like this and just does his thing, he is going to have a glow-up between now and 2024 when people are going to wake up and say "Why don't we vote for the young, smart, and articulate guy" versus the old guy who has a speech impediment that get's taken advantage of as senility, when it's not.
  13. Anyways, what about how inflation is hurting small town BBQ? That sucks. https://www.newyorker.com/news/letter-from-the-southwest/the-true-costs-of-inflation-in-small-town-texas
  14. Edit to add, quoted the wrong person. Meant to quote: This might not be the appropriate place, but speaking of Bond villain did you guys see the paparazzi photos of Ari Emanuel hosing Musk off on his yacht today? He looked like a super pale and fat Mads Mikkelesen. Like, very unhealthy. The other super billionaire Bond villains spend .0001% of their worth on a physical trainer and shaving their head and dating crazy latinas so they can live longer enjoying their crazy privilege. Maybe Musk is intent on burning it all to the ground with him and his physical/mental health on top of the pyre.
  15. Okay fair enough. I thought it was clear who decides these things but I see how I could have been clearer.
  16. I was referencing a judge whose job is to decide these things, so yea I think the word fit.
  17. Agree with opinions on Gladwell as a lot of his stuff has been debunked (e.g. 10,000 hour rule), but it's definitely interesting if not sophomoric. I recommend college kids read him because it's a good introduction into behavioral/social science and pop psychology. We have a book club at work that focuses on this genre, so I'm at least familiar by name of a lot of the trendy books and authors, but also find them to be dubious in value. Personally I like Daniel Pink (Drive) and David Epstein (Range). In fact, I think I prefer Epstein's email newsletter better than his books, which I have often quoted in topics on other boards.
  18. You guys are actually outlining an argument for “Too big to fail, the human being edition”. In which Elon being so single-threaded to Tesla adds another layer of reasoning when deciding these things for the discerning individual who would care about the intended and unintended consequences of such things.
  19. Yep. But also, when you have human beings and not computer code making decisions, you get the situation where it all hangs on this Judge and the pressures and opinions and precepts she has about how to handle these things. That is why I've long stated it's hard to predict unless you know the Judge and the court well, just as it's hard to tell how an ump is going to call balls and strikes unless you are familiar with their work.
  20. I think you've hit the nail on the head with what is being decided. I personally think Musk is being a weasel and would love to see Twitter's BoD nail him to the wall and force him to swallow this frog, but as I stated when this first happened, I can see Musk throwing weight around and obfuscating with a myriad of delay tactics and his deep pockets, in order to renegotiate a better deal, at worst. To the point of him having resources that are good at creating issues out of mid-air, let's see if this sticks (quoted below), but it's worth noting his high-powered lawyers are doing a good job with the best they can do to make this messier than it need be, it sounds like:
  21. Why does she write her "T's" like that?
  22. I'm not so sure that the "market largely excludes consideration of customers, employees and stakeholders" as you suggest. At least it's not so cut-and-dried as that. These things are always baked into valuations and theses. Anyways, to Elon Trial news:
