At the risk of sounding as tone deaf as those on the Biden thread who were all "just pack a lunch and drive less", I have a slight problem or different viewpoint on employers based on my own personal experience.
Most companies these days seem to be leaning into perks and benefits listed above as diminishing as a way to attract and then maybe more importantly retain, good employees. Far be it for me to say, "Just go get a better job" because I'm not sure everyone's ability and skill and I know I am privileged, but I personally wouldn't take a job that didn't offer all the above:
-Unlimited PTO
- Paid Monthly Mental Health Wellness Days
- Great Healthcare benefits plan
- ESPP or RSU/Equity grants if pre-IPO
- Paid Paternity leave of at least 12 weeks
- Compensation/Salary at which I expect based on my subjective criteria of experience, value, etc.
These are all table stakes at this point and tons of companies have gotten the memo. My company gave us the day off today for JuneTeenth to be progressive and show solidarity with our BIPOC employees. This is a new thing and it's really cool.
So again, at the risk of sounding tone deaf because I am older and more established in my career (a lot of that establishment came from NOT ghosting former employers or generally acting like an immature child in professional settings and situations, I will add), my knee jerk reaction is to say "just get a better job, then." if you think your job sucks or isn't bringing enough to the table.
