  1. Thought this was funny. The entire trial transcript probably has a bunch of gold: "Johnny Depp chuckled when the court in his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard was shown a text in which he told his nurse Debbie Lloyd that “you can give me some morphine to see if my tongue and penis touch”. The text was part of an apology after Mr Depp had refused to see Ms Lloyd or anyone else earlier that same day."
  2. Being baited by some drunk, chinless no-name and resorting to a very public physical assault is having demons in control? Would hate to see what you think out of control looks like. I'm a huge Tyson fan, but this was stupid. He is now going to pay a ton of money to this guy as he will be sued as well as being recorded in a criminal act of physical assault. Also this numb nuts gets to walk around for the rest of his life saying he took a couple right hands from Tyson, was paid millions for the pleasure, and "it wasn't so bad" with an inflated ego.
  3. As Twitter said it best: "This is what happens when a growth stock stops growing". We have a lot of these in the tech space. It could get ugly one day for that sector. For now, it's ugly for NFLX
  4. Initially in a growth market and land rush, password sharing is a positive indicator and free eyeballs, etc. as you suggest. However, in a more mature category now, it's a liability. Specifically, "Netflix estimates that “over 100 million” households worldwide are using shared Netflix accounts, including more than 30 million in the U.S. and Canada." according to their earning call. That is a ton of meat on the bone and essentially giving away your service. Putting some guardrails in place for the password sharing that is rampant (e.g. not inner-household) seems like it's way overdue. That said, Netflix needs to do something transformational (again) in the next 2-3 years or they will be toast IMO.
  5. Extremely solid page. + rep contributors.
  6. That's why my Twitter Avatar is a bored monkey with a pirate hat and a pearl necklace. Gotta let all the people who will never come to my house know that I am smart and succesful and now I get to live in a smaller house.
  7. Just a general playoff comment on the general playoff thread. Brandon Ingram is that dude.
  8. What a freaking shoot-out. Fun game. No way PHX doesn't win in 5...6 at most, but if Book can be hobbled that's good news for the Mavs.
  9. This, this, so much this.
  10. Is it just me or is Jokic starting to betray some annoying personality and bad attributes due to frustration and exhaustion? He already jaws at the refs every single time there is any hint of contact, call or not, but now he's losing his mental strength and cool and getting tossed, etc. He looked plain gassed in Game 1 and Game 2, I guess not having any help while do that, but he's starting to act like a whiny cupcake and I don't like it.
  11. Do not go on LinkedIN today unless you want to be bombarded with business travelers taking selfies of pudgy faces with some variation of "wow so blessed and glad to be on a plane without a mask for the first time in I can't remember how long #businesstravel"
  12. So...what happened with the Kelvin Joseph stuff? He basically rolled over on his friends (talked to the cops at noon and by dinner time two arrests were made and confessions were had?) for immunity and we are going to act like he's not an accomplice to murder and life just goes on?
  13. This win buys Luka one more game of rest, yea?
  14. Twitter as a business: Twitter has, over 19 different funding rounds (including pre-IPO, IPO, and post-IPO), raised $4.4 billion in funding; meanwhile the company has lost a cumulative $861 million in its lifetime as a public company (i.e. excluding pre-IPO losses). During that time the company has held 33 earnings calls; the company reported a profit in only 14 of them. Given this financial performance it is kind of amazing that the company was valued at $30 billion the day before Musk’s investment was revealed; such is the value of Twitter’s social graph and its cultural impact: despite there being no evidence that Twitter can even be sustainably profitable, much less return billions of dollars to shareholders, hope springs eternal that the company is on the verge of unlocking its potential. At the same time, these three factors — Twitter’s financials, its social graph, and its cultural impact — get at why Musk’s offer to take Twitter private is so intriguing. Start with the financials: Twitter’s business stinks. Yes, you can make an argument that this is due to mismanagement and poor execution. Hence Musk.
  15. From NYT: Could a hostile bid override Twitter’s poison pill? No, but it could put pressure on Twitter’s board to remove the defense, if enough shareholders support Musk’s bid. In 2012, for example, CVR Energy removed a poison pill it had put in place to thwart the activist investor Carl Icahn after his tender offer earned widespread support. What is Twitter worth? Several analysts said that they think Musk’s bid is too low, and the board is only likely to accept an offer of $60 per share or more. But that’s partially based on Twitter’s ability to reach lofty financial targets, which pushed its stock above $70 per share last year when they were announced. But Twitter’s stock has since fallen to around $45, as investors questioned the company’s ability to meet its goals and fend off competition from other social media sites.
  16. Performance of our generation in Disney’s retro-spectacle “Country Bears” (2002) starring Christopher Walken and Hayley Joel Osment.
  17. Also lost on people who like Galloway is that he’s a running punchline and joke. But that’s another thread as well. Heck there is a whole Twitter handle on his most visible L’s.
  18. Yep. Have done that and it hurts. I had a baby in 2020. The IRS still doesn't recognize the SSN for the child tax credit which has stopped me from being able to submit taxes online as it gets rejected. Second year in a row I have to print and mail. How long does it take the IRS and SSN database to ELT or batch integrate? Yikes.
  19. It's really not. Twitter is easily the most eclectic of all social media. He is correct that Twitter has untapped potential and someone needs to unlock it-- the business and GTM of Twitter sucks.
  20. Actually, a Hogwarts themed neighborhood development would have a waitlist. Have you seen the Harry Potter stans and weirdos that are now middle aged adults? I think I read the deathly hallows symbol and other Harry Potter specific symbols are the most common tattoos these days.
  21. This seems like an emerging trend for brands with brand-loyal followings and cult-followings to use their platform to make more money by diversifying and getting into real estate revenue and profits. See Disney and their new Disney fanatic themed neighborhoods for lonely adults as well. Interesting to see how this plays out business-wise. This could be a brilliant gambit or it could be a bad idea.
  22. Worst* nightmare. Mobile posting got me.
  23. Matt Levine has a great piece today about this ordeal. He ended with the conclusion that this puts Twitter into the new CEO’s worse nightmare, noisy distraction: “There is no particularly good outcome for Twitter here. It can sell to Musk and become (more of) a vehicle for his whims and trolling. It can find some other imperfect buyer and try to cobble a desperation deal together. Or it can (maybe) fend off Musk, stay independent, watch its stock drop, alienate one of its most high-profile users, and get second-guessed by shareholders for years. Twitter is in play, but that is only really fun for Musk.“
  24. I had Jet Blue do that number on me from LGA -> BOS and I couldn’t miss my morning meeting, and the next flight was a morning flight, so I had to rent a car and drive…in the snow…for nearly 4 hours and got in at 2am. It was brutal and I was angry, but if you live the life long enough we all have business travel war stories.
  25. I think Gypsie is fine. Maybe Romani is better. But to use the slur gyp as a verb meaning to cheat or be dishonest is a no-go.
