  1. waiting for the defense to win it, I guess.
  2. not winning with this running game.
  3. five first downs away
  4. two games in a row losing fumbles on the opponents goal line? Is that good? ha.
  5. signs of life!
  6. so much for that quarter. Dallas offense needs to come alive. Dan Campbell probably has as much want to as any other coach.
  7. even weirder that Bob Lilly is still upright! He and Roger may have been the only ones older than jimmy?
  8. agree that was the best halftime ever! I was yelling at the TV for someone to try to mess up jimmy's hair and Haley made a half-hearted attempt. Fun stuff!
  9. After the school day ends, not much. I coached cross-country running this fall, so I could get a little change in scenery. We traveled to Kotzebue, Buckland, and Kiana. Kiana is beautiful, and Buckland has a small beach. I go to the baptist church every Wednesday night, because of the homemade soup and singing. I have had to sing solo a couple of times when people didn't know some songs we sing at the church of Christ. I like to help fellow teachers bring their groceries back from the store. I am a pretty good pack mule...so good that one of the teachers introduced me as his pack mule to the secretary. My goal for the spring is to convince the young teacher to let me help her bring home groceries. I don't think she believes how good I am. The difference in southwest Alaska and northwest Alaska is interesting. Southwest Alaska - Manokotak- has small smokehouses -maqii, that northwest Alaska does not have. That is the Yupik tribe. Northwest Alaska is Inupuit.(sp) I went ice fishing once in Selawik, March 2022 with a fellow teacher. The temp was a toasty 25 degrees, so we were out there for several hours without getting cold. In Selawik, you cannot even get a change of scenery by walking, because the "roads" are boardwalks, and pedestrians have to yield to the kids driving four-wheelers or snow machines. Sometimes you just hope you haven't been too mean to the kids that day because they can run you off the boardwalk if they want. I found myself applying for anything to get a break from the same old thing. I might be an expert at one thing listed above and am definitely an expert at snow-shoveling. I am also an expert at applying to do things that would take me out of Selawik. I am getting out of Selawik for a conference in February,-Saturday through Thursday - and in April coming to Texas for a very long time for a bunch of dr. appointments. That was fun, when I discovered I could do that last year. I looked at my pay stub in August of last year and realized I would never come close to using the sick leave days, so I took a week in April for dr. visits, instead of using the summer. My district allows us to use sick leave to travel, so the 2 days coming and going all count as sick leave days. I am taking 9 days off in April, and coincidentally, the day before my first day off is a Monday-staff development day. it doesn't get much better than that. The countdown is about to begin. My flight from the Arctic for the last time is May 25. If boredom is your thing, Selawik is pretty much king, imo.
  10. Leaving January 1. slightly different atmosphere, with airfares increased recently. I bought plane tickets for the entire academic year in June, so I beat most of the increases. 1/2 apple pie as carryon this time, and will break down and finally purchase a meal on the plane. charcuterie plate. Plan to bring about 30-40 pounds of frozen food, mostly Texas beef and chicken. I am just about done with the Arctic Circle. I finally got lucky and will get to attend a conference in Anchorage in February. First three years in rural Alaska, I paid off a number of bills, and only saved the annual IRA deduction, while completing two master's degrees, but since moving to the Arctic, I have put the pedal to the metal, not coincidentally working these three years without the big spending wife. Am on pace to double my net worth in late April 2024 from the time I arrived in the Arctic in July 2021. Personal record low temp. experienced walking to school is -40 degrees. Two Decembers in a row I have walked to the airport. This year the temp was -10. I am still learning new things about Alaska Airlines/travel stuff. This time I found out I could use miles to purchase a motel night, so I got a good Residence Inn motel in SA with a full-size fridge and freezer on top, for 12/31, with late checkout. That helps with the frozen food storage. Price difference between Texas and Selawik for groceries is obscene, hasn't changed. Selection of groceries in Selawik is now worse than 2021. Frozen food gets to go outside in Anchorage for the natural freezer before flight from Anchorage to Kotzebue.
  11. really surprised both he and Pete Carroll are still coaching. Won't be surprised to see them both retired in the next few months.
  12. getting over the hump on a running stat always makes me think of TD, Tony Dorsett. If memory serves, he got his 1000 yards in a season, his rookie season, and the next carry promptly lost 5 yards, so technically he might be the only rookie in NFL history to get 1000 yards in a season twice. ha!
  13. score in 2 plays....check... now the RB gets another chance at 100 yards...prediction, he will get it.
  14. score a td in 2 plays or less and this is still a ballgame.
  15. so much for that. I still think the RB has a chance at 100 yards. Running game is real in LA.
  16. very interesting to me that on successive drives, LA runs on 2nd and goal. I think McVey is planting the seed in future opponent's minds that there is a pretty decent running game in LA.
  17. lookin good LA.
  18. Kirk needs to give it up. If I am a DC, one team I definitely don't want to face is LA. good passing and good running? Give me somebody else .
  19. This dude on LA is a tough runner. I know this because the announcers just told me "tough runner" three times in 10 seconds. Congrats!
  20. Rams fan here for this game. Amazing how special teams have changed. Years ago, it was gospel to let the punt land if the ball would land inside the 10 yard line. But special teams coaches finally got smart and had player(s) run and stand between the punt returner and goal line. Now a player makes a fair catch at the 5 and nobody bats an eye.
  21. and the cars already live in Texas with the wife.
  22. If you are in Texas, you should allow @C-Man to quote you. will be in Texas in late May. Thanks for the tip.
  23. ok. good. The Hartford is the one that offers or used to offer a senior friendly plan, I think? For auto. I am not quite a senior, but getting close, will be 59 in a week.
  24. My last Germania auto policy ended in January 2022 I think, don't remember. During the year-long policy my independent agent told me I missed 3 Major insurance increases. The new policy would have more than doubled!! I couldn't deal with that and my agent is down to very few companies to choose from. I am a renter, and our new 6 month auto policy was a relaxing $1700, Progressive, then the next six months increased a little bit and then this time was scheduled to go to $1900. I balked and took quotes, and will get the State Farm experience for six months, maybe a year. Loss lead rate to start is $1534. This is for 2 Hyundais, three drivers, the wife, myself, and our 25 year old son. 2022 Kona and 16 Accent. He doesn't turn 26 until March, so I am told he is good to go until the next policy, which will be July. I assume the rate will go up in July about 20-25%, but if that is what happens, the rate is still lower than the scheduled 1900 with Progressive. I really appreciate the now very rare one year policy. My next quest for a year policy will start with AAA.
