  1. Texas 10 Georgia 9 39 rushes for 176 yards
  2. Yes, and I remember exactly where I was in the first half, when Ward attempted a FG against Georgia. Standing inside the Wilson's next to Highland Mall, on a break, I watched the ball go over the uprights. I called it good from my vantage point, but the refs disagreed. I didn't think much of it, and then later learned about the tragedy. That night I watched the best played Orange Bowl game I had personally seen, because I was too young to watch the Orange Bowl when we stopped Namath. Gutsiest call ever by Tom Osborne to go for two, and came up short. Miami deserved the NC because they played complementary football. They were better than us because they had tremendous speed and quickness in all three phases of the game, while Fred was busy putting all of our best players on D. They also had a home game in the Orange Bowl. My point is we are so, so close to NC level. Last night we were three plays from total domination on the scoreboard. The two QE mistakes and if our DL makes a superman type effort by catching the Int, and running as far as he can, we might have won the game about 30 to 0. There is a little bit of improvement to be made by the D, just catching the interceptions, then QE, how do you get him to fix his errors I don't know, and of course the special teams, how do you fix Bert? That's it and btw, speaking of Georgia, something tells me we are not out of the woods with them after this week. I expect to see them again.
  3. Punting? 1983 was either John Teltschik, future Philly great, or someone else, but the punting was much better then. FG kicking, another miss tonight, and if these two units have another bad game at the same time it could kill us. Punting edge to '83 Kicking even. If Ward makes 4 out of 5 or 5 out of 5 in the '84 CB we would have been National Champs. Offense, 24 much better, even with the turnovers. Defense, '83 no doubt, but it is getting closer. '83 was #1 in the country in yards per game. I haven't looked at our rating now, but it almost has to be in the top 5. Offense, lapses in every game, both years. Much worse in 1983, when we had problems due to Fred not able to decide on a QB and the fact that we lost our best running back in October I think. In his prime, Edwin Simmons reminded me of Bo Jackson, and almost as fast. But due to a medical condition Edwin found out that one leg was shorter than the other which caused knee problems. By the time the '83 season ended we had nobody who could hit the hole as fast as Edwin. Then Rick McIvor magically had the day of his life against the Age in the 45-13 win and Fred was committed to go with Rick for the Cotton Bowl. Tonight the defense could have easily outscored the offense in the 2nd half, similar to how the '83 unit operated, but two potential interceptions were dropped. The drop by the DL is totally excusable, would have been a ridiculous catch and I didn't see a replay on the other, a ball thrown at the end of the third quarter. Sad to say about the offense, but the offense is so bad in whichever quarter it disappears that I believe the D needs to try to score one TD per game. If Aggy picks up the punt block and runs it in, we still win, but talk about fingernails on a chalkboard!! 17-14. Let's have one game where all three units play well!!
  4. What are we playing for against GA? Win and earn a bye? Lose and no bye? If we lose do we lose a shot at a home playoff game? I assume we are in regardless of next outcome. Also what is the easiest path? bye, win in semis and win finals?
  5. saw the preview tonight on NBC. S. Barkley has an over/under of 13.5 yards receiving. I thought this would be a no brainer easy to win with the over. So far he has not been targeted, but he only needs one or two catches.
  6. I got my wish, on both counts. He's gonna hear how great he is all week, and believe it! He also ran the ball over 20 times, which means probably means nothing.
  7. If we win against Georgia to win the SEC, it appears that there is a chance we face the 'dawgs one more time in the semi-finals or finals. Then it really is like the NFL.
  8. I'm going way out of the box on this one. I've been thinking a lot about the 1983 team and how this team reminds me so much of them, especially with the lack of complementary football. In 83 our offensive doldrums briefly ended against Aggy, in College Station. So, in honor of the 1983 team, Good guys 45 Ags. 13 Passing yards 258
  9. wow, 'bama is struggling to even score a TD against Sooners. I predict OT in the Aggy game.
  10. He's a very good QB, and I like seeing an athletic QB wearing #10. I want him healthy but plenty bruised and full of himself for next week. I say he passes for 2 or 3 TDs tonight as Aggy plays a very close game, all 60 minutes, maybe even OT.
  11. 1. This is the best longhorn D since 1983. That D had three things going for it that this team does not yet show. a. ability to make the unbelievable interception(Jerry Gray 1983 vs. Auburn), b. ability to completely take over a game--- vs TCU when the D outscored our own offense, with two ints. returned for touchdowns, and c. I believe all 11 starters were drafted into the NFL and I am almost certain one sub. was drafted spring of 1984 after being the 5th DB...can't remember his name. 2. As the QE disaster unfolded this afternoon in the 2nd half, I flashed back to GD and Mack calling the worst set of play calls in a row ever, against KState when they called 2 or three successive QB sneaks which paved the way for Colt's shoulder to be weakened in advance of the last game of the season. Aggy would injure Colt's shoulder the next week en route to winning the game. The one good conclusion for the future at QB is that Arch knows for sure that if he ever has a game when he gets injured, loses focus, etc. he WILL NOT be taken out.
  12. This QB is lucky/blessed whatever.
  13. Back to the topic at hand. Sark doesn't want Aggy to know Q is injured, even though they can see the tape? Or Sark is stupid? Or what? Seriously?
  14. Best I've felt about a D in Austin since 1983. That D was #1 in the country!!!
  15. 4th down will go for it.
  16. We are trying to let this team back in the game. good tackle there. In a way we've got them right where we want them. Back up QB can't throw the long ball from our 35.
  17. Take him out, now1 obvious limp. will not get better today.
  18. Both offenses incredibly anemic. Texas 24, UK 10. yards 425.
  19. You can't say he's being inconsistent, that is for sure. Always the same, always about more money. That famous FUPM picture is the first thing I think of. I. noticed he has 288 wins, so there's that. If he were to somehow be able to stay for the duration of the contract he could eclipse 300.
  20. This might be the post of the year! Stuff like this is why I love this board.
  21. What is the introduction of Dallas Mavs starting lineup theme song from 2011? I heard it just now on ABC telecast of Florida vs. LSU. Evidently there are some lyrics to this piece. I might have heard "putting in the work".... thx
  22. I think I finally won this thing? Have come really close a couple of times. Missed total points by 11...7 for us and 4 for them. Missed margin of victory by only 3. I guess a case could be made for the guy who picked us 15 to them 14? He missed points by 9, but his margin of victory was off by quite a bit, missing by 9 points. I think margin of victory is more important than total points away from total?
  23. There's my 2 first downs. if we run three plays and punt, pigs only have about 2 minutes left.
  24. twice in a row out of bounds. We're gonna get about 2 first downs and punt.
  25. 1983, number one defense in the country. Shitty QB/offensive play all year, mostly because Fred was somehow convinced he did not need a full-time OC. One game en route to 11-0 we beat TCU 21-14 I think, and our D outscored our O. 2 defensive TDs. Got lucky with McIvor having the game of his life to beat A and M 45-13. Georgia was ready for McIvor in CB, but most likely did not prepare for R. Morschell, great running QB. Texas receivers acted like they were allergic to the ball, as in they dropped a bunch of passes, etc. If Fred had come in with Morschell in 2nd half to run the ball with option, I am convinced we easily win the game something like 13 to 3 or 13 to 10. Instead we messed around on O and ended up 9-3 before the worst play in Longhorn history, the punt against our D. Our D was so good Georgia decided to play field position and hope. Their hope worked out. Craig Curry tried to catch the punt because Jitter Fields yelled "you, you" at him, so he tried. Fumble, Georgia scores 3 or 4 plays later, they win 10-9. We didn't know it cost us the National Championship until after Miami upset Nebraska in Orange Bowl, one of the 5 best games I ever watched on TV. 31-30 and Osborn gained a ton of respect from just about everyone, because he could have kicked the extra point to tie the game and claim National Championship, but Osborn went for 2 to win the game.
