  1. There was another thread for this, why can't I find it? Anyway, I'm telling you guys as I told you before, this film gets better upon subsequent viewings.
  2. Yeah, seems like a dead drop would be useful for snaring a few. You'd at least find out if they can fly or jump crazy heights. I'd guess that shapeshifters could probably turn into whatever they need to in order to escape traps but you're right, they're certainly not taking the fight to the creatures. Or aliens, which seems to me the most logical theory.
  3. I'd never heard of this before discovering this thread, and my first thought was I didn't have the energy to do another Lost/The Leftovers kind of mystery but I watched the first episode and got hooked. I think I paused at some point in episode 5 last night. It's apparently a lot easier to build a world like this than it is to provide an explanation for it that really satisfies, so we'll see. But I'm looking forward to watching more of it this evening. Also, I'll be very interested to learn why the priest was burying chocolate.
  4. Now that you mention it, I do recall the spiral symbol and the barbie doll in a gang rape scene, etc. I think people were trying too hard to turn into something it wasn't. The showrunners kept mentioning during their weekly talks about the episodes that they weren't trying to be mysterious or misleading in any way.
  5. I remember something from business law about a contract arising out of the behavior of both parties. If that many years passed without any objection from the HOA, then it seems to me their behavior would have implicitly established their approval of the change. But I'm no lawyer. Also, this thread has yet to give me any lulz
  6. I confess I don't remember what the reaction was on shaggy to the ending of season 1, but not only did I have no problems with the ending, I wouldn't have anticipated that others would have found it unsatisfying. We already knew who the killer was, so it was just a matter of how it would go down when they found him. And we learned that there really was a gang of murderous pedophiles, including the governor's evangelist brother, and that's what had turned lawnmower man into the serial killer he became. I wonder if some were expecting it to be more of a mystery than it was?

    Mad Men

Another really fascinating aspect of that series is just how incredibly different a place the world is in the last season, versus 1960 at the start of season 1. I don't think there are very many decades in our nation's history during which the country changed that much. Obviously, more recent decades and the way tech has so altered our lives certainly fits the bill, but prior to that I think the 60's were incredibly transformative. Same here. Great service.

    Mad Men

One of the coolest things to happen with that show was Heinz actually running with one of Mad Men's ad campaigns.
  9. "Indian Chick" is Priyanka Chopra, one of the biggest stars in the world, and she's "for fuck's sake, are you kidding me?" hot. Here she is showing off her dance moves. Take your blood pressure meds first.
  10. Fantastic fucking list. 300 Jaws Hunt for Red October Usual Suspects Mulholland Falls (Nolte is one of my favorites and Jennifer Connelly in her prime) Godfather (all 3) Inside Man

No idea how I went as many years as I did having no idea whatsoever that he was Richard Harris' son.

    Mad Men

Holy shit, I do not know how I missed this during the original run, but on the past couple of re-watches, the reference to the Massacre of Glencoe brings literal tears and inability to breathe, I'm laughing so hard. Campbell's sincerity and exasperation when he insists, "The King ORDERED IT!!!" may be one of the funniest moments I've seen on tv. Just fucking genius writing.
  13. Season 1 was lightning in a bottle. That shit just doesn't happen very often at all, and lightning rarely strikes the same place multiple times. And it's a shame because season 1 was absolute perfection. I just rewatched Inside Man with Denzel, Willem DaFoe, Christopher Plummer, Clive Owen, and Jodie Foster in one of her best performances, though not much screen time. So I'll be interested to see this. I like Jodie.
  14. We didn't see, but almost certainly, right?

    Deadwood

It's definitely got one of the best opening sequences of all time. Watching the wild mustang disappear as humans encroach the territory to build a town and start mining gold was beautifully symbolized. And to this day I marvel at the Homestake Mine. They started digging there in 1876. The mine closed in 2002. Two thousand fucking two. Started before the invention of the automobile or airplane and by the time it closed we'd walked on the moon, sent probes to Mars and other planets, we had handheld devices that enabled us to speak instantly with someone anywhere on the planet. They took over 40million ounces of gold out of the ground there. That must've been a hell of a meteorite shower.
  16. Man, I just saw this thread today. My prayers for all concerned.
  17. I was under the impression that even accidentally blowing your wife's head off with a shotgun was still a crime. Did the preacher get zero charges, whatsoever?
  18. Holy SHIT that sucker took some fire and best I can tell, withstood it. Can't see if any of the rounds penetrated toward the left.
  19. One thing is certain, however, and that is the fact that Indiana Jones is without question the worst archaeologist that ever lived.
  20. Mortimer, your brother's not well, we'd better call an ambulance. FUCK HIM!!
  21. One of the worst things that's ever happened to me was when they came out with the sweetened creamers, especially the French Vanilla and Hazelnut. And coconut creme. Both my coffee consumption and sugar consumption have gone up significantly as a result, because those creamers are like heroin to me.
