  1. At first I thought it was something like muscular dystrophy or ALS or MS, but then I recalled that he was in a lot of pain, so it seems cancer is the most likely culprit.
  2. You mean you didn't care for House of the Dragon's non-stop exposition, apparently for the benefit of non-bookfags? The Queen arrives at the wedding in a stunning green dress. Please take note that we said GREEN. "Hey look, she's in a green dress. Do you know what color the flame of the tower in Old Town burns when they call their banners?" "Green. It burns green. Which one might reflect upon when considering her choice of a GREEN dress. For example, she is perhaps metaphorically calling her banners, thereby setting up an ongoing conflict between herself/her supporters against Rhaenyra and those who support the Princess, who might select their own color to identify their allegiance. Black, for example, but definitely not GREEN." "Hmmm, I hadn't thought of that. I was just curious about the flame. But you make an interesting point."
  3. Straight, but I have a long association with professional musical theatre so that has confused people over the years.
  4. There was an episode of the Six Million Dollar Man entitled The Last Kamikaze. The episode aired on January 19, 1975, and nine-year-old Augustus was spellbound. A plane with a nuke aboard goes down on a deserted island somewhere, and Steve Austin has to go and get it, bring it home. Level of difficulty: There's a Japanese soldier on the island who is still fighting the war for Japan, as he doesn't know the war ended decades ago. Over that glorious hour of mid-70's television drama, Steve battles it out with the soldier, successfully overcoming his enemy and securing the lost nuclear device. Instead of being taken as prisoner of war, the situation is explained to Nip and I think they may have brought his family to the island, I'm not sure, but in the final scene, the proud soldier hangs his head and cries, displaying both humility and dignity, along with gratitude. This was the first time Augustus cried as a result of a tv drama, except for the Peanuts special in which Snoopy is leaving to return to Daisy Hill Puppy Farm, and all the gang are crying their eyes out as they giving him a going away party, in which each of the many gifts that he unwraps is a bone. That was some Shakespeare worthy Peanuts Gang adventure, and my little sister and I balled like, well, a couple of grammar school children.
  5. I think I cried a little bit in Marathon Man when Hoffman throws the diamonds down into the water tower.
  6. "Look how they massacred my boy." And then, in III, Michael's silent scream as he holds dead Mary in his arms. That one rips my heart out and crushes it every time.
  7. It's incredible all the little stuff you'll notice the second time through that you couldn't have known was relevant or foreshadowing the first time. I really enjoyed the re-watch. Finished it last night. Fascinating series. Irons was just brilliant as Veidt. Probably my favorite performance in the series. Why couldn't I be lucky enough to get stranded for a few years in an idyllic locale with an endless supply of Ms Crookshankses? Loved Veidt's completely nonchalant response to naked, and Black, Dr. Manhattan strolling into his compound, preceded by his schlong. Obviously, Jean Smart would come in 2nd on my list, but Regina King was pretty damned great, as well. And finally I was really impressed with the young actress playing Bian, Lady Trieu's cloned mother. Every episode was great except for the one in which we get Will's history via Angela's ingestion of his nostalgia capsules. That episode was the only one during which I experienced any boredom, and the "strobe light gives you mind control over people" was the only thing I found silly in a series with so much science fiction.
  8. Thread jack? Dude, you could be the key to unraveling this whole mystery.
  9. Well God knows we've taken the "long term" approach. I've said this before but I don't care, I'll whine about it again. The Cowboys advanced to their first Super Bowl when I was 5. Won their first Super Bowl when I was 6. They made it 6 more and won 4 more over the next 24 years, so the first 30 years of my life were a lot of fun being a Cowboys fan, and I expected it would be that way my whole life. And it really should've been.
  10. Following the Cowboys has been like a never-ending season of Ow! My Balls!
  11. To use a tired metaphor, we're arranging deck chairs on the Titanic, and on this voyage, instead of Jack and Rose we've got Dak and Jane Fonda. I'm glad Moore's gone. I don't have an issue with McCarthy calling plays. Even when Rodgers wasn't doing his Superman thing, McCarthy called some great offenses in GB . The problem is he's calling plays for Dak. Maybe I'm 100% wrong and once we go into meaningful games when the opposing defense doesn't know our playbook better than our own offense, Dak won't be 'forced' into as many mistakes. Possible? But I still think we're closing the barn door after the horses are out. And instead of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans...
  12. They were in tough spot with understandably not wanting to have the characters wearing gas masks all the time. But I suppose if the fungus could evolve to tolerate 98+ degrees, it could tolerate 350, right? The first Spider Man with Toby whatever his name is drove me nuts because they had him constantly taking off his mask. Motherfuckers, Spider Man wore a mask for a reason. He didn't go around saying, "Oh this train's really heavy, better take my mask off."
  13. That is seriously abnormal. Apparently, many people think that the typical body temp is 98.6 throughout the day, but that's not the case it all. It's just an average, as the temp ranges from around 97.5 to 99.5 over a 24 our period. If your average body temp is 96.4, you'd be risking hypothermia at some point every day. Have you tracked your temp over an entire day before?
  14. Did I mention this already? (I follow threads on multiple fora about this show) Indonesian doc mentions flour is a perfect substrate. Scientist at beginning of first episode says fungi would have to evolve to survive human body temps. Wouldn't they have to hella evolve if they're gonna survive via flour/grain? Just about anything that contains flour is gonna be baked/fried or otherwise cooked, yeah?
  15. Based on the condition of the flowers in front of their house I'd figure at least a week.
  16. Finally got a chance to watch the most recent episode. Holy Christ, this show is awful. How can you take source material that's so very, very good and create....this? Acting talent like Jack Huston going to waste, and I suppose Harry Hamlin, as well. I thought he was really good on Mad Men, and when I was a kid I thought he was great on LA Law. 4 episodes in and they've really explained nothing at this point beyond Rowan's ability to psychically visualize your innards and kill you, and that she's the designee of the Mayfair legacy, but we don't really know anything about them or their history yet. We've gotten no real explanation of Lasher and his history/purpose. We've been introduced to the Talamasca with no background there either, really. 4+ hours and we've seen Rowan kill some people, Lasher just appearing here/there and being "mysterious," aunt Carlotta keeping Deirdre prisoner and then trying murder/suicide Rowan, and some flashbacks to a coven in Scotland. What the fuck is the story here?
  17. At the end of the day, he was still a nerd that may not have had any real training. But I agree, it wasn't consistent with how seriously he took his security/preparation. But we needed to get him shot for some reason. No idea what that reason was because in the next scene he's recovered and it's forgotten.
  18. I'm a guy who enjoys his solitude when able to get it. The idea of having my own little town is pretty fucking appealing.
  19. I think you mean Richard? Are you seeing ads in this show?
  20. Just started a re-watch of this. Enjoying it even more, as I'm catching stuff that I couldn't possibly have known to notice the first time through.
