  1. With a big ass knife in her back pocket.
  2. We just open up the basket and dig into some hot SON OF A BITCH!
  3. Last question, regarding the Apocalypto final scene when the Europeans arrive in the Yucatan, can someone spoiler tag who they are for me?
  4. My only real disappointment is how anticlimactic the finale was. All the talk about the Dark One and the inevitable confrontation with the Dragon Reborn and all that was at stake, and here's a little amulet statue that'll enhance your power 100 fold (implying some sort of epic battle) and we basically get Osama bin Boring giving Rand a "Daenerys in the Warlock temple" vision of his wife/kid, his realization that if she's different in any way than she's not the same person, so he channels the One Power into his little Buddha and we see Lucifer dissolve in a bright light with what looked like a smile on his face so obviously Rand did what the Dark One wanted. Oops. Moiraine's WiFi gets severed and the lamp salesman steals a horn that got very little/very confusing info about. I'm really not sure at all what happened--beyond the obvious "this is the first battle, not the last." Mysterious orphan Anakin-Frodo wanders off alone. Nynaeve appears dead but suddenly heals and wakes up (did she heal herself, given her power is so strong?) and the "I've got 5 kids to feed" character from Total Recall says something about 5 ta'veren being unusual and all having roles to play blah blah. If I missed anything that makes all of this easier to understand please enlighten me.
  5. Just discovered and binged this in a few days. Had never heard of the books. Did some minimal premise research and dove in. Most fascinating element of this series for me, going in: I've always wondered what would happen if some sort of plague or apocalypse wiped out our ability to manufacture anything on a large scale, maintain intra- and international shipping, etc. Basically all the stuff we're able to do that makes our level of technological and commercial lives sustainable. I'm curious how quickly, and to what degree our lives would devolve to the Middle Ages, in other words. It seemed like that was a big part of the premise here, and I really liked seeing that confirmed in the cold open of the season finale. The current world is as much future as it is history. I absolutely love that concept. You're dealing with societies that are reduced technologically to what we they were like centuries ago, but sociologically have moved beyond a lot of stuff like homophobia or disenfranchised women, etc etc. That's a fantastic and intriguing concept that's never really been explored thoroughly. In almost all post-apocalyptic movies/series the devastation is a backdrop and the characters are just subsisting best they can as they work through the plot. It got more treatment in this show and so I enjoyed that. Yes, they're too clean most of the time but that's true for just about any production set before the 20th century. I wasn't distracted by the color palette as many here were, and even though I agree the sets and costumes looked like Xena or Star Trek the Next Generation at times, that didn't bother me.
  6. Last comment. I'm often struck by how similar the effect of a posh English accent and a genteel American southern accent are.
  7. Also, whoever made the comment above about the score being noticeably similar to Silence of the Lambs, great ear! It sounded so similar there were moments you could close your eyes and expect Clarice or Hannibal to start talking.
  8. So, when watching the Harry Potter films as they came out over the years, which of you said to himself, "I think that Harry Melling kid is going to prove the greatest acting talent of this bunch of kids?" He was magnificent as Poe, stole every scene he was in. Really enjoyed the film, despite the story itself not being terribly compelling. Love the gothic, sort of Sleepy Hollow setting, the overall vibe. Fun flick to spend a late evening with. I'd give it a B or B+.
  9. I should also add: I don't even know that it's true that he just walked out of the church after he shot the victims. That's why I asked if anyone knew whether that was actually the case. It could just be an allegation to make him look worse by attorneys for the plaintiffs.
  10. No, and that's why I said he may have been utterly distraught, but it's equally possible he could just be a really shitty guy. I've got no idea. I'd err on giving him the benefit of the doubt in this situation, but at the same time there's some evidence he's a really shitty human being at times. I also suppose the same could be said of any of us. So it's all idle speculation.
  11. Using that word in reference to *any* occupation that pays what these players make is so far beyond the pale. I always wonder how anyone who was actually enslaved would feel about that comparison. Playing in the NFL isn't just a privilege, it's about as much a privilege as one can hope/dream for.
  12. He's another species in the book, called Taltos. If you enjoyed the vampire novels you'd really enjoy the Mayfair Witches books.
  13. I thought she was Carrie Coon when she showed up in Mindhunter.
  14. In my profession I've worked with numerous NPD patients/family members. You're right it's thrown around a lot, but calling someone a narcissist is not the same as alleging NPD. I don't think being charming is at issue here, but Baldwin is clearly talented in that direction when he wants to be.
  15. It's just as likely, in my opinion, that Baldwin's a narcissist and his immediate reaction was "oh shit how's this going to impact me, I need to walk away and think about this." But there's no way to know. If I accidentally blew somebody's head off I'd probably be pretty irrational for a bit.
  16. You'd think, but people who are in shock (just being hypothetical and giving him benefit of the doubt) can't control what they're doing. Who knows what he was experiencing.
  17. You know, you don't have to wait for the lighter to ignite a flame. You can flick the sparks onto the kerosene all over the floor.
  18. Yeah that's why I said, "He may have been distraught." Can't imagine what one would experience in that situation, but I can guess it's a blow to the senses.
  19. So I saw "on twitter" that immediately after shooting the cinematographer and director (or was it assistant?), Baldwin immediately turned and walked out of the church, leaving others to tend to the victims for a half hour or so. The source may be an atty who's suing (sued?) Baldwin and/or the production, I'm not sure. Anybody know if this is true? I suppose he could have been distraught and realized that others were attending to the victims, to give him the benefit of the doubt. But at best, that's a potentially bad look. I also think it was a horrifically bad idea to talk to the press and to go on television to emphatically exonerate himself. None of that makes anything he did a crime, just makes him look unconcerned with anyone but himself. I recall years ago a recording of a voicemail he left his daughter made the rounds, and was pretty ugly. He may just be a jerk. I am and always have been a huge fan of his work. Hunt for Red October, The Shadow (I love that movie), The Marrying Man, Malice, and tons of others. The Glen Gary, Glen Ross scene is a classic. But he just might be a walking douche.
  20. Years ago I asked my dad, "Where do you even find bryll cream or whatever that crap is anymore?"
  21. I was kid in the 70's and none of my parents/grandparents ever really changed their hairstyles as they got old.
  22. I figured the reason there were live rounds on the set is because they were having fun shooting shit during down time, but didn't know for sure if that was the case. If they indeed set up their own nearby shooting range then that's just begging for a totally unnecessary risk. When you look at all the circumstances that had to come together in exactly the way they did for the Brandon Lee death to happen, you'd think "that's impossible." But given enough opportunity, just about anything that can happen eventually will, I suppose. Tragic deal all around and ultimately the only reason stuff like this happens is because humans are careless and error prone.
  23. I found episode 3 pretty boring. As far as the departure from Rice's work, they basically took the names and location and created a new story. This Rowan is nothing like the Rowan we read about. But whatever, I don't care as long as they do a good job. Hoping it gets better and introduces more characters from the novels. Mona was my favorite. And Oncle Julien but I guess Hamlin's character is filling in for him. Plus, you have the black branch of the Mayfair clan that were just as interesting.
  24. This is about the grossest thing I've ever seen. Good show so far.
