  1. I agree that our OL has to block their 3 down look, but we're gonna throw a lot of looks at them and we can't rely on efficiency there. KSU also blitzes often enough and they get home, so I have a hard time seeing us sustaining 8+play drives due to either penalties or sacks. We also haven't been an efficient running team this year. We just need to score enough, but we won't have the chance to if we can't get them off the field. More drives on offense is how we win. They will likely look to choke the clock with methodical drives. Their WRs and RBs block pretty well, and they pull all kinds of motion to make it easier for the eventual ball carrier to get the edge with blockers. This feels like a Watts game, Manny and Brooks can rotate on the other side. I could see us going heavy edges too.
  2. This game won't come down to QB play. Can we stop the option? They'll test it early and often. They run the majority of their stuff to the edges, so I think we'll see plenty of the 4-3 looks with wide linebacker alignments. If they don't get the edge consistently, will they be able to move our interior guys up the middle often enough to keep the chains moving? Neither guy seems to handle the blitz well either. Make them hit passes downfield with pressure in their face. I'm starting to think the entire game comes down to their OL vs our defensive front.
  3. IIRC Lamar was the Redskins until around 2015 or so. Then they became the lame ass Texans. It was also back when Snyder was giving everyone the finger about changing the name of the Washington redskins
  4. They also had Devon Achane last year. Who can they rely on to carry this team on offense against an average Ole Miss defense? If Ole Miss plays a clean game, this is a 10-14 pt win for them.
  5. I've been waiting to see more of the orbit motion with Worthy like he did with Smith and Waddle at Bama, he did it this past Saturday, but it feels like there is a ton of meat left on that bone. We aren't nearly as talented, skilled, or experienced as those Sark Bama teams though, I've been checking out some of the 2014 USC stuff with Cody Kessler, Buck Allen, JuJu and Agholor to get a better feel for how things could/should look with average-above average Texas talent/experience.
  6. @NoName Gotcha. I'm not interested in engaging with you on this topic any further, but thanks for playing.
  7. Only if the read is wide ass open. Last thing you want is a 5'9-5'10 guy without college QB experience throwing passes into smallish windows in the redzone. Recipe for huge momentum swings. I think adding some misdirection or spreading the formation out would help give him fewer people to run through for paydirt.
  8. I named people based on what I personally remember from the recruiting cycle. Not whatever random shit I can retroactively dig up from 247. Bringing up random 247 listed offers doesn't mean a whole lot. I mean, Texas was really after Klubnik and Weigman right? They offered after all. Additionally, a player's performance elsewhere is not indicative of what they would have done here.
  9. I think if we're going to clone one of our lineman it should be Sweat.
  10. 3 down 3 backers 5 DBs They'll probably mask where the 4th rusher comes from and drop 7. Communication on the back end is the most important part though. The more people going into routes, the more likely someone can take advantage of the mistake.
  11. They have done well developing the 2021 guys they inherited. Sanders wasn't a guarantee to develop. They whiffed on Skinner, stopped pushing for Boardingham (who looks good at Florida), and the Llewellyn guy. and punted on that cycle. In 2023, Randle will do his job if he keeps Arch happy, and Shannon will probably be good to go in 2025. Maybe if SC falls apart, we can get Duce to transfer here. They've shown they can develop TEs, which is more critical at this position than some others.
  12. They became a good offense once they started running 2/3rds of the time instead of 1/2 of the time. We've stopped the run well all year outside of the OU game. If we can make Kstate pass to win, it bodes very well for the outcome of the game. MM has to protect the ball, but I think we're gonna have solid success on the ground against them.
  13. He's not gonna come out and say that about any team, but especially not his alma mater that has his very good friend as HC.
  14. It'll be hard for him to drag his nuts across their face off his back foot, but it should be interesting to see him try.
  15. There's next to no way Worthy is making that catch. Marvin Harrison Jr. would have a hard time bringing that one in. Underthrown and the DB rakes it out as Worthy is trying to bring it in. Last year, he didn't even show that level of effort on those kind of balls. The only one I could "fault" him for is the 3rd and 2 play where he's being tugged on his break. It hit his fingers, so maybe he catches it with more extension, but it wasn't a bad drop.
  16. Conner makes pretty noticeable errors throughout most games, which makes me think Neto must be really unreliable if he keeps getting that much PT. Check out Conner on the big Blue run in the 4th quarter. The other guy is sitting in the hole with his back to the play, so Conner must have been distracting him with a conversation about space travel. Blue runs right behind them for the long TD
  17. Murphy threw to his outside shoulder, Sanders turned to his outside shoulder, Sanders' momentum pretty much made it impossible for him to secure the catch AND turn up field while still beating pursuit. Additionally, the guy JWhitt was supposed to block was already at his heels once he secured the catch. Whitt ran a fake route before going to block his guy and the other guy got outside leverage. Whitt would have needed to maul him to the ground or out of bounds for the play to work, but the other guy made a play. Whitt blew the block, the other guy blew the play up.
  18. No injuries per Bobby/Gerry this am on the live stream. Seeing Jett Bush and Alfred Collins playing without any noticeable limitations was very gruntling.
  19. I agree with this unless a no-doubt guy that Flood has history with becomes available or there's more attrition than expected. Lots of talented guys familiar with the scheme should be ready to contribute by next year. I just hope one of them can unseat Hayden Conner.
  20. So about a third of the snaps then.
  21. Maalik was living dangerously for much of that first quarter. The X throw into triple coverage where X falls is a bad throw even if he stays upright. The one handed JT catch was also a potentially disastrous throw. He settled in for the most part after that, but hopefully he continues to grow during the week and it culminates in a big time performance against KSU next week. He's gotta be more careful with the ball than he showed yesterday. He threw some really nice balls in the RPO game, so maybe we'll see more of those worked in.
  22. Can we just mention the good sportsmanship BYU showed in this game? They offered to help our guys up, didn't do a bunch of extra curricular activity, etc. Big difference from last week.
  23. IZ is decently effective, but teams have been looking to shut it down as we reach the redzone. It actually makes the pass component more effective if they commit to stopping the run.
  24. You know Howard just led a 41-0 beatdown of UH, right? Johnson didn't do much of anything positive when that game was in doubt. Howard certainly looked really good last year as well. He'll give Texas fits if we have to oversimplify to stop the QB run.
  25. This is exactly the feel I got, even though I still would have liked us to kick one of those FGs.
